We went to Walmart and bought new pillows because the motel pillows were flat and completely worn out. One of the best things about this motel has always been the pool. Not anymore, it's filthy dirty. Couldn't even see the bottom in the 7 foot end. But the reason we will NEVER stay there again is because they entered our room without our permission. They also entered the room next to ours without the guests permission. Both rooms had the Do Not Disturb sign out. Not sure what they were looking for, but they violated our 14th amendment rights.

At first, there was a bit of a disappointment as we were supposed to have a top floor, and due to an error we got the downstairs. It ended up being okay as we still had a lovely deck to take in the park views. And our upstairs cabin neighbors were pretty quiet. The main building of the lodge is so rustic, yet modern with a restaurant, nice gift shop, fireplace and a large outdoor deck. The staff was lovely and so helpful. The cabin itself had a small kitchen, 3 bedrooms, one bathroom, deck and living room. For 3 of us, we were very comfortable. I'd have to say the best part of the cabin was sitting out on the deck at night listening to crickets, watching fireflies, and seeing the stars. We lucked out with great weather so were able to enjoy hiking trails within the park, evenings sitting at the creek near the bluffs and pick up from a local rafting company for a river float. The lodge also has the main "hotel" with traditional rooms but I'd highly recommend the cabins for a quieter stay. They're just a short walk away from the main lodge. It was a truly magical and memorable experience here at Echo Bludd.

The manager was not here when we arrived at 5:00 pm and was unavailable by phone. It would have been nice to be able to talk to someone because this is kind of a remote area, no cell service and the wifi didn't work, so how could we know what's available around here? There were ants everywhere in the room, though I'm sure that's not normal for this place. The yard was nice (though showing some neglect), but we weren't sure where it was ok to sit and relax because -- again -- the management wasn't available. The ice machine was broken. TL/DR: Potentially nice, but for the money we've stayed in much better historic hotels on our route.

If you don't want to read the whole review I'll summarize by saying don't book here, it's a rundown…read moreproperty with poor food and no good river access. The bumpy, crumbling, neglected driveway into the property was the first clue. Our cabin was so musty it gave us head aches and runny noses. There was a dehumidifier running (which we emptied three times a day as no one from the property ever came to check on it) and four box fans running when we entered the unit. It had a European style ventless A/C which could not keep up with the heat and left one bedroom unusable at night for sleeping. The furniture looked as if it was from the 60's and the front porch furniture even older. The cabin was sort of clean, the bathroom faucets still had toothpaste spots from previous guests. The porch was just plain dirty with holes in the screens. On a positive note, the beds and linens were more than acceptable and the staff who worked there could not have been nicer. Food is included in your room rent and it was awful. First night dinner..some shredded slaw with a limey dressing of some sort and a plate of oily noodles topped with cube steak cooked with chunks of green peppers and onions..the cook's take on Philly Cheesesteak noodles ??? A small piece of bought carrot cake. No bread, no butter, never a choice, food is served plated. There was a coffee pot in the room which we used the first morning (as well as some complimentary Folgers) only to find not one single mug to drink it. And there were no glasses either which we had not noticed as we had bottled water. We found that when we went to pour some wine! Lunch was a "bag lunch" which would have been fine. In other places we've stayed bag lunch to the river is great, sandwich, chips, piece of fruit and a cookie and that's what we expected. Instead this is what we got, this "sandwich", no mayo, no mustard, and off brand bag of chips, no fruit, no cookie, not even a napkin. The second day was a repeat of the first but this time the sandwich was a blob of cold pulled pork on a bun and the chips, nothing else. It was like the pork you buy at Sam's Club but you would serve it heated! The charge for this wonderful food was $55 per day!! And the beautiful Black River could not be seen from the property. You had to walk down the long hill, cross the two lane gravel road, make your way through the brush to find a treacherous set of steps to reach the river. In short we left early. It is impossible to understand the 5 star reviews unless written by someone with interest in the property, especially the one written by "Sabrina". If you are looking for a place to stay go to the Black River Lodge, the property is cared for, lots of activities, three family style meals a day, and a well maintained set of steps that take you right to the river. Interestingly, these properties are owned by the same people, but Wilderness Lodge has certainly been neglected.

Right off the highway and near our relative's house. The hotel itself was new and modern. Love the decor. Our room was clean and comfortable. We had a king bed and a pullout sofa. Having 2 TVs was nice to let the kids watch one and we had the other. Bed was comfy and shower was always hot. As for amenities, we used the fitness room daily. There was plenty of cardio equipment and my husband used the free weights. We planned to let the kids use the indoor pool but never got around to it. As for the breakfast, it is good. There is always some kind of eggs and meat (since we eat low carb, this is clutch.) There are also other options like homemade waffles, various breads, bagels, pastries, muffins, cereal, yogurt, oatmeal. One day they had cheese omelets but they were out. I asked a worker and they not only replenished them, she brought one over to me so I didn't have to get up. (So nice.) The workers here were all wonderful. Every single one of them were friendly and helpful. We definitely plan to stay here next time we're in town!

We loved the two different kinds of sausage oranges bananas make your own waffles. Either large or four minis eggs muffins oatmeal the list goes on and on.
