Dr. Ken was kind and friendly during my visit, which I appreciated. However, as a first-time patient coming in for a routine annual exam, I was disappointed by the lack of transparency around add-on services. I wasn't told ahead of time that retinal photos were not included in the standard exam and would cost an additional $39 out of pocket. Patients should be informed of any extra charges before services are performed. I also ran into repeated errors in my new patient information (email and address) that I had to correct multiple times, including again when setting up the patient portal, which was frustrating and time-consuming. Had a regular eye exam appointment scheduled. I have been having some issues with my eye and asked to have my eye looked at, he asked me if I still had leftover steroid eye drops from last year and I said yes and he said just use those. I said I don't want to use steroid eye drops if I don't have to. I wanted my eye looked at. He refused to look at my eye (beyond the vision test- never looked at my eye to see if anything was going on) and said he would "leave it up to me" if I wanted to use the steroid eye drops or not as they are "relatively safe". This was absolutely appalling to me. When I went to check out, I was charged extra because they did an extra picture that cost more. They did not ask me if I wanted this extra test or tell me about it beforehand. I will never go back here and I do not recommend this place at all! read more

Wow! After numerous polite calls to their nice staff, either the staff is not communicating with Dr Burden, or Dr Burden is lying to me while persistently selling me on their services!!! They keep contacting me trying to get me to come in for even more exams while never giving me a medically professional data driven report of two days of testing already! I cannot believe that these people but most importantly this excuse filled sales driven doctor is actually allowed to practice any sort of medicine!!! Run Run fast Run hard away from this clinic and particularly Dr Burden (which she has become to me) as they are more concerned about their bottom line than anything and cannot appear to retain qualified staff. On the day I called one of many excuses the Dr had for me was that they were doing staff training! At this moment very few people pictured in their staff photo at this location are currently employed there. Never in a million years did I think I would have to leave such reviews but I hope I help others realize that there are better options out there! When I research this I find that this company sold in Nov 24 to a larger complany from Texas called AEG. They have the worst system for contact and patient care communication. Basically some eye doctors decided to build a network to provide even worse customer service to a bigger group of people so their leaders could enjoy retirement after selling their local practices. No one will answer any phones including billing, service, or scheduling. This is not where one should go for ANY type of health care! read more

We were looking for a new local eyeglasses place, so I called them to find out if they carried kids eyeglasses in a particular size - which thankfully they do! The front desk person who answered and Jennifer (optician) were both so helpful over the phone, and were only even MORE helpful in person with my young child. This place is very sales orientated. The opticians are nice, professional and prompt. The eye exams seemed to go seamlessly but they totally got my prescription wrong. I think Dr Nevitt was more concerned about getting to his son's baseball practice on time as I was his last appointment of the day. I was told to "wait a week so my eyes had a chance to adjust" I waited less than I week and demanded that I get another exam. The second Dr actually was paying attention and I got the correct prescription. They wouldn't even offer me a refund for the contacts they sent me that were the wrong prescriptions. I got an eye exam here and they charged me extra for a contact prescription and pictures of my eyes that I didn't ask for. It wound up being almost $200 after insurance. Absolutely wild they wouldn't walk you through optional additional cost things before they do it. I desperately needed contacts and they wouldn't let me get them during the visit for some reason? Also I never even got my contact prescription when I left and I've tried calling twice but somehow even though they're open they don't answer the phone. And overall the price for frames and lenses is a little bit high--probably about average for a standalone eye doc. I took off one star because of the price for frames and lenses. I went for an eye exam and that went great and the doctor was very good and very efficient and thorough. Then they called me to pickup the glasses. When I put them on everything was clear except that I could see 2 images of everything. That is because I have prisms in my glasses and they forgot to put them on the prescription. The woman working ther kept telling me to take them home and try them & I would get used to them maybe. I had to insist 3 times that that was impossible. I have been wearing glasses for over 60 years and knew the problem. I had to be very forceful. Then they wanted me to wait 2 weeks to see the eye doctor again. I left angry and called back a few days later and insisted that I be seen right away. It turns out that the person that I had a problem with was a new employee and she was also having a hard time personally that day. Anyways the doctor figured out that they had forgotten the prisms and redid the glasses. She also did any internal investigation and held a meeting with the employees to discuss what happened so as to prevent it from happening again. So they mad me new glasses, and without my asking agreed to make me another pair of glasses free of charge. They more than fixed the problem and now I think this is one of the best places to go. At least they admit their mistakes and more than make up for it. read more

I started going here late last year and have had great service throughout multiple visits. They have provided good communication and are sure to coordinate the best care for their patients. Picture it: Saturday morning: My brother-in-law was visiting from out of town and got jabbed in the eye by my adorable long-fingernailed niece in his sleep. She sliced open his cornea and the poor guy was in excruciating pain. Since most eye clinics are not open on Saturdays we crossed our fingers and called their pager number. Dr Brenda Burden called us back and came into the office ASAP to help him out. They got him feeling 1,000 times better and back to normal in just a few days. I had an appointment that I made weeks in advance and when I arrived I waited for 45 mins before being so fed up with waiting and decided to leave. I had gotten a babysitter for the appointment and it was just too frustrating to stay any longer, they don't deserve the business if they can't respect their patient's time. read more

I got a great deal on polarized prescription lenses for my Ray Bans here. I had tried Costco and a few other places that wouldn't even put lenses in Ray Bans. Other places were charging at least $20 more if not a whole heck of a lot more. The lenses were done really quickly and I got a text message alert to let me know to pick them up. The technical staff seem OK and equipment current. i didn't have to wait, but feel a bit like Peter J.... As didn't appreciate the predictable march into THEIR adjoining optical dept (as if it's part of the exam) to extract whatever your insurance plan will pay for lenses plus whatever they can up sell. In hindsight... (Ugg, bad pun) Best plan (at most providers) is to walk out after actual exam with prescription in-hand, and don't allow them to lead you into their dispensing dept for inflated priced lenses. Or if you do fall into the opticians lair, let them do their thing... but don't agree to anything. In addition to a hard copy of your prescription, walk out with an itemized statement for what the opticians are trying to sell you... Then shop. Else, you prolly won't realise those specs added up to $300 more than the insurance would pay until you get the bill. read more

My first thought was, that was my experience at the Bartlett Eye Clinic, and my appointment had occurred the day before! That struck me as something worthy to share. My Optometrist, Brenda Burden, really cares. I asked a ton of questions, and she answered every one of my questions succinctly and knowledgeably -- she knows her stuff. She gave me lots of insight as to what I can do to keep my eyes healthy, and what things I had no control over. I left reassured that I had received a thorough eye exam and that no detail was missed. The office staff was kind and cheerful, and the women in the frames department made the experience of finding the right frames fun and enjoyable. read more

[Update Aug/2014] My appointment this year was ontime and without issues. There was no excessive waiting. Bumping up 1 star to 4. Will see how 2015 appointment goes. [Original Review] I have been going to Bartlett for over 5 years and the service is ok. However in the past 2 years I have had to wait more than 15-20 minutes to see the doctor, once sat in the exam room. While I can understand the excessive wait if my appointments were late afternoon. But they have always been less than one hour after opening in the morning (8:30 or 8:40 appointment). Seriously how late is the doctor going to be during the day. I book early appointments with Drs. for this specific reason, so that I'm not waiting excessively due to overruns. I strongly recommend that if you plan on going, get the 8am first appointment. Anything later could be hit or miss. Today I walked out after 20 minute wait. Nobody came and said why the Dr. was running late. I don't believe the staff knew since even they were shocked when I told them how long I had waited. I will call out 2 things that this practice has going for it. The front desk staff are friendly and helpful. The big star of the practice is Kathie R. She is the person who helps you pick glasses and lenses. Kathie is so helpful and goes above and beyond, it's night and day compared to some of the Drs. Kathie worked with me to find a company that would fit lenses to a pair of glasses that no other company would touch. We found out that there was only one company in the USA that could do it. Bartlett's didn't have an account with them. But she set one up and worked with them to get the lenses into the glasses I wanted. She is such a star. read more

I am moving on - I have been with this Clinic since first coming to the area 10 yrs ago, but I am tired of the waiting, the poor office management, and the upselling of lenses and frames. 1 star only because Yelp doesn't allow any lower. This clinic has gone downhill! We've been patients since we moved to Kenmore 12+ years ago. I moved my business somewhere else 3 years ago because I could never see the same doctor and its a hit and miss every time. The office staff seems indifferent and often quite rude. Last year, when my 17 year old daughter came in for her yearly exam, the office called me to let me know that I either need to pay for the contact fitting cost up front for a discounted rate or they can bill my insurance for a higher fee. The lady was so rude about it that I decided to have my daughter just walk away. Later on, I called Premera only to find out that since my daughter still falls under "pediatric vision coverage", that everything is covered and there's no limitation. One would think they know what is covered and what's not or at least check with the insurance company first before harassing the patient. I must be stupid because I decided to give them one more try....I booked an appointment 3weeks ago to have my 12yr old eyes check (she was previously seen at this clinic 2yrs ago). During the initial call, they verified everything, including insurance. I got a VM from them stating that they needed my daughter's insurance information so they can verify coverage. I was busy getting work and home stuff wrapped up so we can leave for a long holiday weekend and neglected to give them a call back, and besides, I figured, I already gave them the information so no big deal. Today (Tuesday) at 10am, I got a call from the office asking to verify my daughter's insurance information again, AND to let me know that they'll have to reschedule her appointment as there will be no doctor available to see her. I am just dumbfounded with the way this business operates! BIG MISTAKE to give them one more try. I will be taking my business somewhere else. read more

I want to like this place, I really do. It's so convenient to where I live, and the doctors and assistant are nice, BUT....the vast majority of times I have been there I have had to wait and wait. On top of that, they don't seem too concerned about scheduling you with the same doctor...I have seen three different ones over four exams. Additionally, I don't like the pressure to purchase eyewear/contacts from their office. Finally, in my 24 years of wearing contact lenses, this is the only place that gives out one year prescriptions instead of two! That all being said, they are extremely thorough, and if you are concerned about any problems with your eyes, I wouldn't hesitate to go. For someone like me, who just wants a contact lenses prescription, it's a bit of a hassle. read more

I was a patient of Roy Bartlett for years and now that his staff is no longer at this clinic the quality of service and service providers are inadequate. They are focused on upselling and not on patient health and wellness. The woman at the front desk lacks basic professionalism and should not be working with the public, especially being the first contact with the office. Every person I encountered at the office asked if I wore glasses/contacts, and if any one of them had spent 30 seconds looking at my chart they'd have seen I had Lasik by Dr. Bartlett 10 years ago. This basic lack of attention to the patient was the last straw for me - never returning. read more

When my partner's eyeglasses broke and he took them in to Bartlett, they didn't even have records showing that they sold him his glasses! Then tried to argue with him! He left them anyway and three days later no progress. Tried to reach on the phone for over 1/2 hour, only to be told that their repair person wouldn't be in for another 4 hours! Their bookkeeping is inept, their customer service non-existent. I would recommend you find someone else for your vision needs -- this place is pathetic! read more
