4+ The primary station to use when flying in and out of OAK. Pretty much is primary use now that Oakland doesn't have the sports teams that used to play right there anymore. But despite not being as heavily used for the sporting events at this station is still pretty high traffic. Which, for the most part, it feels safe and I've never had an issue here. I've used this station quite a bit recently since I've been working in the area and had to fly in and out of Oakland Airport. But it is a sad reminder to see the empty and defunct coliseum every time I use this station because I grew up an Oakland A's fan and a Golden State Warriors fan. read more

What i like about this particular station is its convenient location: it is THE stop to get in and out of Oakland airport. I've had many runs here and not once did I encounter any problems - be it people or just the general surroundings. I've even gone through once to get to a basketball game when the Warriors were still playing at the Oracle. And even then, even with the enormous crowd, getting to and from was reasonably breezy. Whoever planned this stop was smart. Kudos to whoever he/she/they may be. Brilliant! read more

The SFO to OAK BART Route is a breeze. About once a month I travel north to a town near the Oregon/California border. I need to take 2 flights. One from Riverside to the Bay Area, then continue on from the Bay Area via OAK. Usually, it's more convenient and cheaper to fly into SFO. Then I BART it to Oakland OAK. Once I get to Coliseum Station, I take the free, automated trolly to OAK airport. The BART Station at SFO is adjacent to Parking Garage G (International Terminal). Then at Balboa Park Station, I transfer to the OAK/Berryessa line. read more

I love taking BART here because of the special train from the Coliseum station to the Airport. That beats waiting for the $2 shuttle on the street, something I was advised against doing. But the ease of getting from the station to BART is fantastic, especially when coming from a trip. I talked a friend of mine at work and she was intrigued, so we took the last trip together. She loved it too! Oddly enough, I find the trip to be a bit relaxing and so I do feel a sense of calm, whether coming or going from the airport. I do have to admit, that it was weird to be on a tram that didn't seem to have a driver. But, I got used to it and look forward to the trip. What this has over the SFO shuttle is proximity to where I live. It is great to go from the airport to Richmond BART and take an Uber home. This shuttle is wonderful and I'm glad that it's finally up and running. read more

This short connection from the Coliseum BART station to OAK was a long anticipated extension that I don't mind taking. Gone is the pain of looking for exact change of $6 just for a bus ride! Here's a few things you might wanna take note of: ~ It's just a three car train with probably half of the blue seats reserved for the elderly, pregnant, and blind. ~ The other half, as well as the front and tail end of the seats are open with ample standing room for you and your luggage. ~ Fire extinguishers are located under the handicap seats. ~ No food or smoking allowed, thank you. ~ Call buttons and emergency speakers just in case. ~ The announcement and loud speakers are, well pretty loud. You won't miss hearing the rules. ~ There's a marquee up above with station and other helpful information. ~ Plenty of glass all around the train for a great view of Oakland. Torn up about the disappearance of the old bus system, I am not. I don't miss it, I didn't love it, and it won't ever live on in my mind as "the good ol' days" of getting to the airport. Is the new monorail type train perfect? Nah, but it's light years ahead of the old bus system. Here's the deal: If you want to get on BART from the Oakland International Airport, you have to get to the Coliseum station. You used to take the terrible old bus, but they built an above-ground rail that shuttles back and forth. On the OAK side, you catch this by going outside, across all lanes of airport traffic, and heading up the tall skinny escalator. Just follow the signs. All but about 25 feet of this walk is weather protected, so even if it's raining you're out of it for the most part. On the BART side, you exit the regular BART train and head to the end of the platform and take the escalators up. Again, just follow the signs. The train itself is usually 3 cars, and there aren't many seats. I rode it the first week and it was shiny, plush, and sparkling clean. These days it's not bad, but the shine is off. Once you exit at the Coliseum station, you'll have ticket machines there where you can either load your Clipper Card or just use cash/card to buy a ticket. Look at the fee chart and see where you want to go by starting at "Oakland International Airport" as your departure and then whatever your destination is. Don't calculate the math from Coliseum, as there's an extra fare you pay for by boarding at the airport. It's like $6 tacked onto your fare, which, for the convenience of a ten-minute train ride (they say it's eight, but that's optimistic) is a good deal. Remember that if you fly into or out of SFO you pay an extra $5 or so for boarding BART there. Buy your ticket, then use the turnstiles as normal to get to the Coliseum station proper. From there, it's just like any ol' BART trip. Honestly, I love flying into OAK and taking BART into San Francisco. With only a few stops before going under the water, it's at least 15-20 minutes faster for me to get into downtown compared to flying into SFO and having all those Daly City stops. I didn't love it so much when the AirBART bus was all we had to get from the station to the airport, but this train did indeed make the difference for me. It's slick, it's automated, it runs frequently, and it takes me right where I want to go. Unless the were to re-route the actual BART line to OAK, I'm not sure what more you could do for convenience. It's not perfect, but it absolutely means that I will now skip the madhouse of SFO, get into the city faster, and only pay $1.30 more to do it. Good riddance, bus. read more

This was my first time in the bay area without a car. I flew into OAK and decided to try out their BART system. The AirBART shuttle was quick and easy to locate right out of the door after baggage claim. There is a machine located steps in front of the pick up to purchase your $3 ticket or you may pay cash (exact change only) on the shuttle bus. The shuttle picks up on the middle curb at A3 I believe. The line was very short when I hopped on but it sure did FILL up FAST. We were at maximum capacity but I was able to get a seat up front and slide my luggage under my seat. The trip to the Coliseum station takes 12 minutes and drops you right at the entrance. I'd surely use this form of transportation in the future - it's 7x less than a cab into San Fran. read more

This sky rail, "Oakland Airport Shuttle Train Service" apparently replaced the "AirBART" buses. Hundreds of people who attended the Family Bridges Benefit Concert got to see the "Oakland Airport Shuttle Train Service" system in full operation. The only thing I would think helpful in addition to this excellent airport connection would be moving sidewalks because travelers probably have baggage. The BART access for the "Oakland Airport Shuttle Train Service" platform area is located on the BART platform. Simply exit a BART train and walk to the south end of the platform. There appears to be at least two other ways to get up to the new automated connector train's embarkation spot; via the Amtrak Station or from street-side. But I have yet to try that. I'm Yelping the system 4-Stars because an official name the system is still elusive, ambiguous, or unappealing. read more

OK, I gotta admit, riding the BART extension to OAK is pretty slick. But, then, with it costing $484M for this 4 3-car train system on 3.2 miles of track, it better be pretty slick. It is still not without its minor flaws, though. Like how it's cash only to add fare at the OAK station. Yeah, I goofed. I only loaded enough fare to get to the Coliseum station, where the transfer is. To use the train to OAK, it's an additional $6. When you're looking up BART fare cost, look for the Oakland International Airport station, not the Coliseum station. So, I needed to add fare. There are 4 ticket vending machines up near where the airport train boards. No problem. Or so I thought. All 4 were cash only. WTF? What if I didn't have cash on me? Fortunately, I did have cash because I don't know what my options were otherwise. Another thing to keep in mind is, apparently, AC Transit Route 73 runs from Coliseum BART to OAK for only $2.10. While I'm guessing the BART connector is more convenient & streamlined (if you paid the correct fare) than the bus, is it worth triple the fare? Well, BART, you spent $484M for a transportation solution from the Coliseum to OAK that costs 3x as much as a bus ride. Is it slick, convenient, & streamlined? When I wrote the 2012 review, I was taking a bus. Yesterday, I took the train from the Coliseum BART Station to the Oakland Airport. Actually, I started at SFO. I didn't plan it that way, but while it was pouring rain in the Bay Area, I was snowed in at PDX the same day. After 2 cancelled flights back to OAK, I jumped on the chance to fly to SFO at the next opportunity. The connection is straightforward, but I think they could coordinate the shuttle train and the main BART arrivals a little better. The fare machine did the "double math" of calculating the main and shuttle fares, and after a 5 minute wait, we were off. The cars are sleek, clean, and comfortable. It was a nice journey. The most fascinating thing about the ride was looking a buildings and businesses from a perspective different than my multiple drives to the Airport. For example, I did not know that Walmart and Francesco's had closed. After arrival, I had an easy walk over to #4E, where the Park and Fly van soon arrived to take me to my car. If I had arrived for a flight, the exit is closer to the Terminal 1 side than the Southwest Terminal. Now that I know how the system works, I just might try it again from home to an OAK flight. read more

I put off riding the AirBART connector train forever, just assuming it would be crazy complicated like the old bus system (remember that madness?). How wrong I was! AirBART is not only super simple to use, it's almost luxurious. The trains and station are super new, clean, and spacious. It'll get you from Coliseum BART to OAK airport in about 8 mins, and the trains run every 5 minutes during prime time (8am-8pm). Here's how it works: - Simply exit Coliseum/Airport BART station - Follow signs to AirBART - Use your BART ticket or Clipper card to enter the AirBART station - Hop on the tiny train and cruise to the terminal! I used to take Uber to OAK because the BART-to-Bus situation was super whack. But now it's streamlined, making BART to OAK just as easy as riding to SFO. Go Oakland! read more

Convenient, and relatively cheap. A shuttle runs between the Coliseum BART station and OAK every ten minutes. It's a low-body bus with luggage racks. These days it just makes one stop halfway between the two air terminals, so the routine is very simple. It costs $3, exact change, each way. We considered taking a van home, to save us some trouble. At the "reserved van" stand the clerk directed us to the reservation phone, which nobody answered. Then she directed us to the "on demand van" stand, where the front driver quoted us $45 each, then $60, within a 15-second period. Both quotes are outrageous, and we decided then to ride BART back into town. Friday night, 7 pm, we had no problem. BART and Muni were only half full at this hour, and we made it home in record time. I had some reservations about taking the new, um, "peoplemover" (that's what Disneyland called it) from OAK to the Coliseum station. $6??? It was $2 to take the bus. My reservations went away once I took it. AirBART was less than a year old when I used it, so naturally it looked and smelled brand spankin' new. Not a lot of seats, but if there was, then we'd have luggage problems. The tracks are up in the air, so no traffic light worries anymore. When you compare other options - parking at the airport, parking on Doolittle or Hegenberger, taking a shuttle - this is likely to be as cost-effective as it is convenient. But do examine your options if you have a family. A good add to the BART system. read more

It took me way too long to try the Oakland Airport Connector, or BART to OAK as it's now called--sadly; tragically; impermanently, I'm almost sure. THE GOOD + It's quick. The rides takes about four minutes fewer than AirBART ever did, even on its original faster route. + The trains are still very clean. + The views are very interesting and diverse. You can see the hills, the airport, the bay, the golf course, and the encampments of homeless people beneath the Nimitz Freeway. I like it when we can see and are forced to think about the physical and social environments we live in. + You don't ever have to leave the security of the paid area of the BART station in order to get to the airport. There was way too much skeeviness going on everywhere when you had to wait at the curb for AirBART. THE BAD - Six dollars? That's a huge ripoff. It shouldn't cost more to get to Oakland International than it does to get to SFO. - The trains are automated. You might think that makes them cool, but it also means that in addition to eliminating the AirBART bus drivers' jobs, this project resulted in a net loss of permanent jobs. Yes, there are permanent maintenance jobs, but there were with the AirBART buses as well. And it's also a fairly long ride to be cooped up with complete strangers and no access to BART personnel or police. What if someone completely flips out? Decides to try to break out of the car? Assaults you or a loved one? I guess the answer is you have to wait until you reach your destination. - The new Oakland International Airport BART Station is farther from the terminals, particularly Terminal 2, than the AirBART stop was. Boo hiss. THE UNEXPECTED ~ The stop at The Wheelhouse is pretty cool. It feels like the middle of a Disneyland ride. ~ You can technically ride from OAK to Coliseum BART and back for free, although you're not supposed to. How? For some reason, they chose to place the only fare gates at Coliseum BART, so you can walk on at the airport and ride without paying. This doesn't really serve any purpose other than to allow people who have arrived way too early for their flights to do a little joyriding. It's better than I expected it to be. I've taken the BART before but this is the first time I made the decision to fly into SF (Oakland Airport, to be precise) and travel to my hotel at the Embarcadero without a car for the trip. I was really pleasantly surprised to find out how easy the ground transportation was. After you get off the plane in OAK, you find the AirBART shuttle, which takes you to the BART station at the Oakland Coliseum. The AirBART shuttle tickets are $3/person and tickets can be purchased in advance but if you pay then and there, you'll need $3 in exact change. The ride took 12 minutes and was very easy. Once you arrive at the Oakland Coliseum, you can get on the BART to wherever you need to go. I was only about 4-5 stops away from my hotel so the whole trip from Airport to Hotel was about 1 hour. Multiple people warned me that the Oakland area where I'd make the transfer from AirBART shuttle to BART is sketchy. It was doing this commute from about 1-3 pm so I had no issues whatsoever but I did want to point out that some people seriously would have had apprehensions about me potentially doing this alone and at night. read more

I went to Arizona some years ago. Scheduled a shuttle to pick me up and take me to the airport. It was 80 dollars including tip for a round trip drive. AirBart charges 3 dollars either way. Hmmm...think think...I mean sure it was fun to drive around for an hour and pick up other people at their houses and get lost...but 3 dollars! So used it on the next trip. Sure...I was frightened of new things, but 70 bucks to buy more "stuff" with? I'm there! It was midday when I went thus it was crowded. But it's a very short trip and the price can't be beat. AirBART - the only cheap and direct way to get from Oakland Coliseum BART stop to Oakland International Airport. With a cost of $2 - exact change only or a $2 BART ticket, it's not too shabby. And the lovely recorded voice over that welcomes you on board says the ride will be 12 minutes is a bit comforting. (Whether that is exactly true, I'm not so sure.) Standing out there isn't so bad...I have yet to experience standing out there in the rain though. If you're lucky to get off the BART and head straight to the line, you'll be up there first. The crap part is when you're in the back of the line and just hoping you'll be able to squeeze your ass on when the next AirBART comes along. One would not wish to wait another 10-20 minutes for the next one. Getting to Terminal 1 is the easy part. It's the long ass wait between Terminal 1 and 2 that's the killer. So many people getting on and so many people getting off, it makes me wonder if it's more efficient for me to walk to Terminal 2 at this point. And absolutely no food or drink on board! The driver will not hesitate to say "No No No" as he points to the sign prohibiting food and beverages on board. Gosh, I love how you can take BART directly to SFO. When will that ever happen for OAK? Life would be just so much more grand when that happens and we won't need things like AirBART anymore... read more

Quality: 3 Value: 2 Pros: -it comes by about every 12 minutes, and it gets to OAK from the BART in about 12 minutes -stops right at BART and goes directly to Southwest terminal Cons: -$3 each way is pretty expensive, although the BART connector to SFO isn't any better -they don't give any change, and there is nowhere you can easily get change at the BART station or worse, the airport FYI, if you have a $3 BART ticket, they do not scan them. The driver simply takes a look at your ticket to make sure it has $3 on it. Sometimes, they don't even check for the value. Tip: if you're short on cash, you can try the following: 1) Buy a $3 BART ticket using your credit card and use that. 2) Pay $6 using a five and a one to pay for the person behind you, then have the person behind you give you $3. read more

All my experiences in this shuttle have been problem-free, but it is very expensive. I mean, c'mon, $3 for a 12-minute ride?!? With that amount of fare, I can go to work in Oakland from Walnut Creek. It may be convenient and cheaper than driving and parking but I don't think it's necessary. They even made it easier to buy tickets by putting up ticket booths at the airport where you wait for the shuttle. Finally they got rid of the AirBart bus! The new tram is great and they should have had this years ago. There's not a lot of signs inside the airport for it, but it's just a short walk from the baggage claim. From the baggage claim, just head outside and cross a few crosswalks. The station will be on your left. You don't pay when your board, but you pay when you get to the Coliseum station when you want to exit or switch to the Bart. read more

So much better than the old "AirBART" (aka bus) option from getting to and from the airport & Oakland Coliseum. I still wish they were able to do something like the SF airport (even though I much prefer to fly in and out of Oakland when visiting the Bay Area) where the BART was just connected directly to the airport, but I'm guessing that would be pretty complicated. AirBART is a perfect example of the two things that are fundamentally wrong with everything in the Bay Area related to driving or public transit: A) it works, more or less, but could be greatly improved. and B) it only makes sense if you use it regularly. Other examples of these points in the Bay Area include... Which direction of I-80 or I-580 are you on as you drive through Berkeley? How do you get to SFO on BART from Fremont? Does BART go from downtown Walnut Creek to Pleasanton? How do you take BART from Castro Valley to Hayward? Which freeway goes through San Francisco? How many people are required for a carpool? Can I use this on-ramp to the Bay Bridge before 7PM? But I digress. I won't waste anyone's time by repeating the plusses and minuses on other people's reviews; my experience with AirBART over the last 20 years since moving here are similar. I will simply provide the following recommendations on how to most effectively use AirBART because until the BART-Connector-train opens *allegedly* in a few years, AirBART will be what it is... 1) Book your flight itinerary with AirBART's least crowded times in mind whenever you can. Fly out of OAK in the morning and time your return flight to get to OAK in the morning or in the late evening. Fly out on Saturday not Friday, fly back on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. And if it is a holiday, do not under any circumstances fly out on the day before the holiday. My absolute worst personal experience with AirBART was using it on the Wednesday late-afternoon before Thanksgiving. Never again. Note that this recommendation just happens to line up perfectly with generally better times to fly. I'm just sayin'. 2) Always assume that you will miss the BART train you needed to be on, by adding 15 minutes to your schedule. Then assume that you'll miss the AirBART connection, so add 10 minutes more. Then assume that there will be traffic, so add another 10 minutes to the "alleged" 15-minute AirBART ride. In other words: never plan for the AirBART trip to take less than 35 minutes, and always plan for your BART ride to be 15 minutes longer than it should've been. Also use these time-pads in reverse for planning your trip back. 3) The Coliseum station is a depressing, ugly place and there is no way to sugarcoat that... the key is to minimize your need to interact with anyone. This is quite easy: buy two $3 BART tickets and a BART ticket with enough fare for your roundtrip BART journey AT THE STATION WHERE YOU START. You can then go right from the train to the AirBART queue. And you'll already have your $3 return ticket when you get back to OAK so you can walk right to the airport-side queue. Done. You can even visit BART's web site and find the link to purchase a "BART TravelPack" and have it mailed to you beforehand: it has two $3 BART tickets and a $7.60 BART ticket for face value ($13.60). Now, consider this: everything I have told you above makes perfect sense if you are a local Bay Area commuter and/or your trip begins at the Oakland Airport. If you aren't either of these things then... well... AirBART really just kinda sucks. Not gonna lie to ya there. Now for a final word regarding airports: other reviewers have made comments about preferring SFO to OAK b/c of ease of access. I certainly understand this point; BART's SFO extension has been a gamechanger in some ways. But, dear readers, compare the ontime performance of SFO to OAK. You are likely to lose the time you saved by going to SFO instead of OAK due to SFO's intractable problems with flight delays; finally, OAK is just an easier airport to use than SFO... it's smaller and less crowded. It doesn't have a people-mover system because it doesn't need one. Compare the walk from the AirBART stop at OAK to the distance between the SFO BART Station and the domestic terminal. Again, I'm just sayin'. What a joke AirBART is. And they just made it worse. So first, they pretend its the only way to the airport. You use the 511 planner, and its all about AirBART. But if you check the AC Transit 50 bus (805 at night), which stops right across from the Coliseum/Airport stop, it goes right to the terminal. At half the price (less with the BART to bus transfer ticket). Yea, and why is this $3? It goes the most retarded way possible. I know, because every time i get on it goes a different way, so they try all the retarded ways. And now they've gotten rid of the ticket machines at the stop at the airport. So this last time I had to go back inside the terminal, try the broken change machine, ask the two cashiers at the stores if they would give me change ("Not without a purchase") and then walk all the way to the other terminal to get a bucket of quarters more than I needed. Ridiculous. While it supposedly runs on a schedule, it doesn't. There is no clear information about how to get a ticket and they do not allow use of the Clipper Card. Thankfully, a very nice homeless man helped me figure out the ticket purchase after the bus driver refused to let me purchase my ticket on the bus and then took off without me. I take this every weekend and works perfectly if you're familiar how the system works. - Always carry exactly $3 or else you have to buy ticket from the machine. (if you need a receipt, its that small piece of paper near where you drop your money) - Make sure you sprint if you see the bus still there bec. they will leave you even if you are just 10 feet away. Otherwise you have to wait for 10-15min for the next bus to arrive and leave - seat near the front of the bus heading towards the airport and near the rear entrance heading to BART. this will help you several seconds getting off the bus. - Check the BART departure as the bus leaves the airport, this way you know whether you need to rush to the platform to catch you train or just relax to wait for the next train (often times I get there just in time) - (not related to airbart but its part of the process) Get a clipper card...this will save you a lot of time getting in and out of the station in Bart read more

This bus takes you to and from the Oakland Coliseum BART station to the Oakland airport. A bus comes about every ten minutes, and you need $3 in exact chance or a Bart ticket worth exactly $3. You should allow about 30 minutes at least for the whole process - buying your ticket if you don't have exact change, waiting for the bus, waiting for everyone to get on the bus, and taking the bus to the airport. While I was buying my Bart ticket worth $3 for the Air Bart, a woman came up to me and, without me asking for help, walked me through the process of buying a Bart ticket. I've lived in the bay area my whole life, so the last thing I need help with is buying a freakin Bart ticket. It's not brain surgery. Anyway, I thanked her, and then she asked me for money for chicken to feed her family that night, so I felt bad because she had just "helped me" and I gave her $1. WIthout sounding like a selfish bitch, it kind of annoyed me. The bus has racked to put your luggage on and took me to the Southwest terminal. A pretty painless process and makes it not a total hassle to get to the airport of you don't want to drive. The only thing is, you can't park your car overnight at the coliseum Bart station, so I parked it at Castro Valley and then took Bart to Oakland Coliseum and then air Bart to the airport. Kind of a hassle, but much cheaper than paying the outrageous prices of parking at the airport. read more

AirBART is a bus that takes you to the airport from the Coliseum station. Yes, it's a bus and you have to bring your luggage on and shove it in the rack or hold it somewhere else if the rack is completely full. It sorta sucks as public transportation can, but what were you expecting? Oh, yeah, plan for about 25 to 30 minutes for the trip from the BART station to the airport. You can add $3 extra to your BART ticket or have 3 singles handy. This isn't a taxi or shuttle and they don't make change. (Hint to the reviewer who left her ticket in the BART gate and someone nice set it on top: it pops out of the top of the gate in the regular size gates and it pops out the front in the extra-wide handicapped-sized gates that you probably used, since handicapped people might have trouble reaching far over to get it out of the top.) You might get there in 15 minutes from the BART station or you might wait a while for the bus to come so it could be 30 minutes maybe. If you're a person who does not know how to pack reasonably light and you have to bring your entire wardrobe like Thurston Howell from Gilligan's island then get an airport shuttle or limo or something cause you'll have to take care of your pampered self by yourself and your 3 giant bags. Plus everyone will glare at you for being the luggage rack hog and hate you for applying makeup and talking on your cell phone. On the airport end, AirBART now stops midway between the two terminals instead of stopping at each one like it used to. The terminals are close enough together this shouldn't be a huge deal if you're able bodied and haven't packed like the Howells mentioned above. Oakland is a pretty darn small airport, it's really not that hard to walk for 2 minutes in either direction to get to the terminal entry. Yes, this trip sucks moderately, but it's not really all that bad as some pampered posters have said. It has some unpleasantness, but at least it's been reliable every time I've taken it (at least 10 times). As an urban dweller I've learned to put up with some mild unpleasantness and will deal with it as long as the reliability is there. The whole BART (non)arrangement to the Oakland airport isn't ideal, but there is nothing else that anyone would want to go to out by the airport, really, so a BART line out there would be a complete detour and pretty impractical (and it's a much smaller airport than SFO). Maybe a tram to the airport or those cars like for the Disneyland parking lots. I'm sure something better could be arranged, but this mode functions. The drivers aren't bad. I actually fear the fellow passengers more when they're trying to hold 4 bags while having an intimate pre-flight talk on their cell phones to their sig. others and dog-sitters. Oh, yeah, Coliseum station is pretty much smack in the middle of a highly ghetto part of Oakland. You'll probably be fine with all the traffic around this station from the people going to the airport at most times, but be aware of your surroundings and be extra careful after dark. There are times that the ghetto kids have been known to steal bags and/or assault people here. Don't count on the BART station agent to scare them away for you since what is s/he going to do against a gang of thugs, probably with guns? S/he might call the police and hope they arrive anytime sooner than 30 minutes (and a lot can happen in that time). Really, San Francisco airport is more pleasant and easy to deal with if you're taking BART, but the AirBART service is pretty reliable at getting to the airport even if it's slow, inconvenient, unpleasant and the ghetto area is sometimes dangerous. As the connecting shuttle that brings travelers from BART to the Oakland International Airport, this shuttle may appear to be necessary and convenient, but I think it could be much better. The newly added air train system at SFO comes frequently and free, and the same can be said about the LAX shuttle buses that take commuters from the bus station next to Lot C to the airport. So why does BART have to charge a hefty $3 for a ten minute ride? Sounds like a monopoly rip off when it is the only way to make it to the airport besides taking a cab. What is more insane is that they charge all children under the age of 11 and disabled persons a dollar for the ride! Service is not even all that as it only stops once and does not bring travelers from one terminal to another. I'd say it's time that there is an air train or BART service that goes directly to the airport to increase the level of comfort and convenience for its East Bay and international travelers. One star for the antiquated and expensive concept. The publicly elected BART Board of Directors clearly need to re-examine the service as it no longer fit into the mission of the historically environmental conscious agency.
