For whatever reason when I'm on Bart lots of people talk to me. I guess I'm not a 'professional' Bart rider yet but I've been taking it very very often these days. 'Professional' Bart riders travel with big books or headphones. They avoid eye contact. They are going somewhere and do not want to chit chat. I get it. Too much city life can make people like that. Without defense mechanisms in place people might talk to you. Tell you their problems or ask for a buck or two. They might tell you they are hungry or need a bit for this or that - but who knows what they really want some cash for. Who knows. Bart is so much more relaxing than driving - even if you do get some screamer in the car with you... I've run into that every once in a while. Really its no big deal - if it really bothers you just get up and move to the next train. When your not stuck behind the wheel frantically consumed with traffic or red lights or whatever it really does free up a lot of time for anything else. Catch up on emails. Delete some old junky photos on your phone. The possibilities are limitless for all that extra time you gain. I've tried different cars. They are very different experiences. I've found the most who ha happens in the very very last car. I think thats officially the smoking car. The very first car with the conductor is probably the one with the least rif raff as s/he will keep an eye on everything. There is really no better way to travel into Oakland downtown or San Francisco downtown. You avoid traffic and don't have issues with parking.

Typical BART east bay station. Currently undergoing seismic retrofit. No public restroom available. You can usually get a spot on the train (standing during commute hours) If there is a system delay you may have to wait the delay time + 30 min because train(s) arrive too crowded to get a space.

BART in general has gotten terrible. Everything from workers, sanitation, stations, safety, homeless on trains, thugs on train and the train itself has gotten bad throughout the years. I am not sure if it can ever be fixed as the worst of what I had witness occurred today. Please look at the picture as it may not surprise some of you readers. It is human waste on a seat.

4 Stars Bart Station because you just don't get these elsewhere: - Emery-go-around shuttles right outside of the station waiting to take you to your Emeryville designation for free - Kaiser Shuttles right outside of the station waiting to take your sick @ss to see the doctors at Kaiser for free - Yummy hotdog stand right outside of the station waiting to fill your tum up for a small fee - Nice flower shop right outside of the station waiting to help you impress your wife/girlfriend for a small fee - Some massage group waiting to give you a 5 mins massage for free occassionally Besides that, I thought I'm in the hood, but so far (knock on wood), everything looks decent and safe. I park there occasionally and nothing happened to my car yet (knock on wood again.) So, yes, I like this station! Oh Oh! and to my surprise, no hobo sleeping in the station **GASP**

Stop it with the pee stench and letting us know every 10 minutes an elevator is out. Confusing bus and transport signage is no good.

The station…read moreis clean, modern, and well maintained, with plenty of seating and some of the cleanest public restrooms I've seen at a train station. There are friendly ticket agents on-site if you need assistance purchasing tickets or have questions, but I highly recommend buying your tickets in advance through the Amtrak app or website--it's quick and easy. The staff at the ticket counter were fantastic, and the onboard crew was equally friendly when they scanned our tickets. A little history: the station opened in 1995 as part of the revitalization of Jack London Square, the historic waterfront district named after famed author Jack London, who spent much of his youth in Oakland and drew inspiration from the waterfront for many of his stories. Outside the station you'll also find a statue honoring C.L. Dellums, the influential labor leader and co-founder of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, after whom the station is officially named. This station is primarily served by the Capitol Corridor, with trains to Emeryville, Berkeley, Richmond, Martinez, Davis, Sacramento Valley, Roseville, and Auburn. If you're planning a long-distance trip on one of Amtrak's sleeper trains--such as the legendary California Zephyr to Denver and Chicago--you'll need to board at the Emeryville Amtrak Station, which is the Bay Area departure point for most long-haul Amtrak routes. We rode Train 724, a comfortable double-decker, from Oakland to Sacramento Valley. The trip took just a little over 2 hours, and I highly recommend sitting on the upper level for the beautiful views along the route. The ride was smooth, relaxing, and the seats were spacious with plenty of legroom to stretch out. Food was served on board for purchase and free WiFi. If you're traveling with a bike, designated Capitol Corridor bike cars have onboard bicycle racks. Most bikes do not need to be boxed, and you can secure them with your own lock while onboard. Traveling with a furry friend? Small cats and dogs up to 20 pounds (including the carrier) are welcome with a reservation for a $29 pet fee each way. I also noticed several great promotions available when I visited: * Buy one ticket and bring up to five friends or family members at 50% off with promo code V302. * Seniors (62+) receive 15% off with code V282. * Kids ages 2-12 receive 50% off (up to seven children with each adult fare). * Active military members receive 15% off with code V780. Overall, this was an excellent experience from start to finish. Friendly staff, a spotless station, comfortable trains, and a relaxing way to travel without dealing with Bay Area traffic. Whether you're taking a day trip to Sacramento or connecting to a cross-country adventure from Emeryville, Amtrak is a wonderful way to travel. Highly recommended. Cheers!

Expect the worst out of people get the worst. I'm not sure though. For all the German tourists that send their 18 year old daughters here - its not a smart thing to do. Unless your really hurting for cash give them finances to avoid public transportation - especially after hours.

We bought our tickets then realized no one told us where we actually get onto the train. Our friend went back in..at the ticket booth the man that helped us was very nice and very helpful. He gave the kids coloring books and pins. Finally on the train it was bumper then I remembered, moved around a lot reminded me being on boat. Can not have bags or luggage out on tables or seats. I think we got called out, but we weren't sure since it was over the load speaker. We had a small bag it had food and snacks in it. We put into the over head. We went to check out the food car. So the kids could feel what it was like to walk from car to car..the food car was mostly over priced snacks. Canned, bottled drinks and packs of chips or nuts. When we arrived in Davis. They said over the loud speaker they do not stop for to long you need to get off so get ready. We couldn't open the over head to get our bag back out. It was stuck. Other passengers helped us open it, they said you really need to pull it hard. Once off the train the Davis train station and building looked so old and run down..so sad looking compared to Sacramento station. We didn't know no one would be there to buy return tickets.
