Pros: Staff is friendly. Convenience store on site with the basics. Located right off the 15 freeway. Quiet and peaceful during our stay. Has a large fenced dog area. Hookups worked as expected. The main pro for us is the convenience of a place to stop for the night to break up a long drive with the RV. Cons: The property is in need of some basic maintenance. There are ruts in the driveways between sites making it inconvenient when towing a trailer/RV (It's somewhat understandable since the soil is sandy and taking the climate into consideration). There are some overgrown trees that hang that need to be trimmed so they don't hit the top of RVs, it can take some careful maneuvering to avoid them. Overall this KOA is a convenient, quiet and friendly place to stay overnight which are big factors that we appreciate. read more

Calico/Barstow, KOA, Barstow, CA, March 25, 2024 This is a good stop over going either direction on Highway 15 or Highway 40. We stayed two nights. One day we took an hour and a half trip up to Red Rock Canyon State Park (beautiful) and then on to Ridgecrest for lunch. We stopped at Indian Wells Brewery for refreshments and brewery stickers. You can also always check out Calico Mine Park for fun with kids and family near the KOA! Ask the front desk about the archery range. Fun for almost all ages between 8 and 80ish. read more

Clean campground, good RV sites. Gravel, not blacktop. Full hookups. Very nice, large desert grounds. Large fenced dog area. Loved all the old wagons and old equipment scattered around. Pool area was nice, but the water was COLD (early Oct). Enjoyed swimming in it anyway. :-) Nice, BIG playground for kids. Indoor rec room with ping pong, pool table, large Connect 4 game, etc. Also an archery range with rentals. The only downside is that the campground is very close to the freeway, and our site was particularly close, so traffic noise was a bit of an issue. We managed by running our fan to drown out the noise. Took one star off for freeway noise, but would absolutely stay here again. read more

And amazing sunsets and sunrise and lots of space We are in the middle of a 2 month trip and this has been our favorite lodging thus far -- Wonderful greeting from Penny as you enter the registration area. She is fantastic... I still need to hear the rest of that story... -- the cabin is just everything I needed it to be. 2 months of small sleeping quarters with my kiddo (suv bed) and I sprinkled a few deluxe cabins in to really rest... this is our FAVoRite. The only place we have had a harder time leaving is the Cedar Lodge motel in Kings Canyon and that's largely due to the view and the birds... this place has a cute cubby area that houses two kids in a bunk bed. Small kitchenette and a table- we used a great deal for journaling... the sunset and sunrise are out of this world.. I am right now at their COOl and spacious laundromat while my daughter waits for the washers to finish so we can head to the pool. I met Ron as I was leaving the cabin and he was equally friendly, helpful and clearly loves being here.... happy people make for happy guests!! Truly thank you for a flawless, incredibly relaxing stay... if the next one wasn't no refundable we'd be tagging on another night.. The staff overall was very friendly. The restrooms and game room were clean and well maintained. We went over Easter weekend and they had a small egg hunt and crafts for the kids. Penny and others worked really hard to make it fun for the kids. Only thing that wish was different is heated pool. The spot is located right off the fwy with great access for OHV vehicles about 3 miles from Calico ghost town. If you're looking for a nice quiet spot not for you. Kari wouldn't let me drain out my black tank. When I had talked to someone earlier in the morning about me not checking in and staying, they said it would be ok to use the R.V. Dump on my way home. I had paid for a night and didnt stay so they said it should be fine and remind them. Showed up and Kari gave me like a wtf look and said No you cant. Will probably never come back or recommend the place for the poor service received. Ended up going to Flying J's and dumping here instead. read more

Our third time staying here. Always clean and well managed. We usually use this as a one or two night stay as we travel I-15. This time, we opted to hang out a few days and explore the area... the only negative I have is the pool is closed for "the season"! Really?? It's southern CA! The location of the campground is great if you want to explore. Great day trips to Mojave (45 minutes away)and Calico Ghost Town (5-7 minutes away). The campground is located near the highway but not too noisy. We also discovered the restored Harvey House at the Barstow train station (15 minutes away). While there, we also went through the train museum. We drove East I-15 to enter Mojave NP through Baker (45 minutes away). While there, be sure to check out Alien Jerky! For unique food options, you have to hit Peggy Sue's! From typical diner type comfort food, they also have their own pizza parlor! Just down the street (one exit East on I-15) is Eddie's! Huge candy and souvenir store. On the way back, try hitting the drive through outdoor art exhibit named Victory Sculpture Garden. read more

This was our destination for the weekend. We stayed in a cabin there this past weekend and it was wonderful! The cabin was clean, the grounds were one of the nicest KOAs we've seen. I've seen many reviews on the staff being rude, but that was definitely not our experience! Everyone we spoke to was so nice! Amanda, Penny and Amber were all very helpful had very nice! Our refrigerator was not working and they got a replacement within 10 minutes! We rented DVDs to watch at night, played in the game room and swam in the pool, everything was great! I didn't get the maintenance mens names, but they were also very sweet, they drove around periodically asked how we were and if we were having fun. We will definitely have to do this again! So relaxing and fun for the kids! read more

I realize I previously had a review here as we stayed over night before. I should have learned. This time we made reservations for Feb 15. 2020. And while making the reservation she wanted me to update and renew my membership again. I DID..she must get a spiff. Fast forward to 1 week ago. I called to cancel our overnite on the way out to Grand Canyon and way back. THE REASON..my husband has prostate cancer and needs a major operation. I am so bummed to have to cancel. But it is what it is. All the other RV parks I called were empathetic and cancelled with zero fee. This lady was rude..condesending..and when I asked about waving the fee as I am a KOA card customer and have used the KOA many times..she simply said. ITS THE POLICY. This is a true bummer and I am sure not something KOA Corpirate likes to hear. I truly didnt want to cancel my reservations..and 6 weeks out is sufficient. read more

I'd give it negative stars if I could. The grounds are fine, what you would expect at a small RV park. No real complaints there. The reason for the one-star rating is the customer service. The woman running the front desk was by far one of the most unpleasant human beings I have ever had the misfortune of encountering. I didn't catch her name, as she never offered it, but she is an old woman with gray/blonde hair. Absolutely abysmal customer service skills. Every single member of our party who had the bad luck to speak to her came away upset. Every interaction I personally had with her was met with rude, sarcastic, condescending replies for no reason that we could ever discern. She acted as if I had walked into her home during breakfast, climbed up onto her table, and urinated directly into the bowl of Cheerios she was currently eating while staring her directly in the eyes. We will never return here, and strongly urge anyone else to avoid this place like the plague unless you're into being masochistically demeaned and condescended to by a complete stranger who is ostensibly supposed to be "serving" you. I will be writing a letter to KOA corporate about the rude, insulting, and flat-out mean behavior of this individual in the hopes that they might rectify the situation and save any other families from the nightmare of having to deal with such a miserable person while on vacation. read more

Overpriced for what you get. Couldn't relax in our trailer because some a-hole was blasting a radio. Front desk girl said there was nothing they could do because it wasn't "quiet hour" I said if everyone in the park was playing music that loud it would be total chaos. I told the desk girl maybe my truck alarm might malfunction & blast until quiet hour before I could disconnect the battery & she said "use a little common sense"! I thought I was using common sense otherwise I would've beaten the offender unconscious with his Bluetooth speaker! read more

Nice place to stay we needed a break after some bad weather before we got home. Restrooms and shower areas were very clean and the spaces for your trailer are very level and that makes it nice. They have an interesting area for the tents with a cover over where you would put your tent. And yeah if you need a place to stay for the night I would recommend this place. read more

Made reservations for 2 night , We called prior to leaving to see if we could come early to check in and she said it was done and proceeded to tell us yes your set up for one night and that's for premo spot now not available ?? WTF ?? ... after about 30 min now the not so great s spot is open for 2 days .. no apologies given for there mistake .. ok what ever ... now this evening we go to the general store to obtain a pad of paper to buy and nothing available ... there's a suggestion box with a tablet inserted we ask for one piece of paper and she says no that's all we have .. I was so happy with this place, a bit rustic but a safe place to lay your head, nice pull thru spots, clean, and of course full hook ups for me to run my A/C. It is hot in that part of the country. Most efficient check in I have had at an RV park. Our 32 ft class C motorhome with a VW on a dolly fit fine in the pull through. Two slides were fine. (read neg. reviews on these items and had been concerned) We liked how covinient and clean the restroom/showers/main building were to the trailer spaces. Nothing fancy, but a great place to overnight between the CA coast and Las Vegas. read more

Warning this place does NOT look like the pictures on the KOA website. So. Where to begin. We booked this site and they had 40-50 mile per hour winds and a sand storm. I have asthma and would not be able to stay. Went in to discuss this with the counter woman. Amanda Grubb. She told the couple ahead of us that due to the weather she would have to escort them back to be safe. I told her I would not be able to say here due to my asthma. She said we have a cancellation policy I said yes, but these are special circumstances. She told me too bad. I asked for her card and told her I would be calling corporate. She said whatever we have a policy. She wouldn't give me the card so I took a picture of her name badge. She then called me a dumb bitch. Btw. This Place advertises that they have cable. Free cable. They do not. They advertise that they have Wi-Fi. They do not. There is only Wi-Fi in the office building. The pool is not usable. And there is zero grass. It's all weeds, tumbleweeds and dirt. This a great little KOA. The store was open 8 am - 8 pm and had everything you might want or need (including ice cream). Free coffee in the morning too. The sites were roomy, some had a patio that was nice for outdoor chairs, etc. They also have a nice Recreation Room with Pool, Air hockey and foosball tables. The Swimming Pool was closed (it was February). They also offered a free shuttle to/from Calico Ghost Town which was very nice especially since the weekend we went Calico Ghost Town was very busy. The sites are level, but also have red ants. The location is in a desert which apparently in Barstow, translates to car dumping ground. The neighboring properties are really trashy. Unfortunately, when we were there, there were some really cracked out people staying there, using the cloudy, cold pool. So yeah, keep driving if you can rather paying KOA rates. read more

Unfortunately most of the check-in staff was unfriendly and not welcoming. The shuttle van to Calico was very dirty and the air conditioning did not work. It wasn't working the last time either. Sucked we got here so late (it was about 7:30) so we couldn't really shop around or swim but it looked huge. We stayed in a "cabin" that wasn't too big but it was cute and had two "rooms", one with bunk beds and another With a queen bed. It had a little kitchen (sink, microwave, coffee maker). This place far surpassed our expectations! We loved it! It was quiet even though it's so close to the freeway. The grounds are so well kept! The laundry facilities on site were awesome! But upon arrival, we were shuffled around to three different 30 amp sites, before they admitted that they do NOT have 50 amp at all. Their dog run has no shade and no bowl to provide the dogs with water, and their internet service doesn't work. The laundry facilities were clean with multiple appliances, a drying rack, folding tables, waiting chairs, etc. Free showers, huge bathrooms - also clean and well maintained. The pool was awesome since the weather was so hot when we were there. The only reason this KOA gets 4 stars instead of 5, is because we had a camel spider running around our site for a minute. During the night our tow vehicle was broken into, they broke the back window which does not have a car alarm on it only the 4 doors do. 2009 Ford Edge They took everything inside including our motorhome keys. As we headed out on our first RV trip and making this the first KOA we have ever stopped at, it was a decent experience. The park had good clean facilities. The hookups were solid, and the playground was new. It was easy to pull in and out of, and was far enough off the highway so noise was not an issue. read more

Late April - covid season - Cute cabin #1 - It was the only cabin with a stove but not even 1 pan or 1 frying pan included. No spoons/forks. Did have the rest of the dishes. Was told only need to bring a pillow and blanket and only get 2 K-Cups for the whole visit. Never got k-cups and they made me buy them at the store. Not even a sponge or bar of soap. Friends stayed in cabins #3 & #5 and they had shampoo/soap in their cabins in dispensers. Cabin #3 didn't have toilet paper. I'm ok with no shampoo but should get a bar of soap. Lady in the store was rude to me when asking nicely about the k-cups and still had to pay for them. When checking in, she was very rude to the families in Cabin #3 & #5. Watched them clean the cabin and just straightening up the place and covering it up with a quick mop of pine sol didn't seem enough. Did change sheets. Such a nice place otherwise. Cabins get ALOT of dirt in the air from the motorcycles not riding slowly through campgrounds. Never got the refund for a pet as promised. read more

Spent 3 nights here for memorial day weekend and was a little disappointed in this KOA. Incredibly unorganized, was supposed to have a pancake breakfast on Saturday and they flaked, was supposed to have a movie night saturday night and they flaked again, finally had the pancake breakfast Sunday and it was horrible. The pancakes tasted like chlorine, the coffee was cold and thats all there was!! No butter, no orange juice it was a joke, everyone squeezed down a couple pancakes and left. Staff does not control all the idiots speeding through the campsites all day on their atvs, I had to go have a talk with someones parent about it, another lady yelled at the dad for going 25mph through camp and almost hitting her kid. Every single toilet leaked from the bottom so you had to stand in toilet water while you sat,. They get an extra star for Roberto and the girls who work there who did their best to make our stay bearable but we will not be back. read more

Nice park! However we were in the first space near front, a lot of highway noise. The park was only 1/3 full, it would have been nice to be farther back, there was a great view of the mountains. I only saw that when I took my dogs for a walk around the park. It was very clean, very nice shower/bath house. All in all I would recommend this park. read more
