We just left the gas station and the TALL INDIAN attendant (with some dirty white stuff on both sides of his lips, probably dried saliva) who helped us check out told my Filipino dad that he needs to buy something first before we can use the restroom. This attendant does not know Customer Service at all! No Hi, Welcome! How are you, nothing like that at all! Of course, he did not do it to my White American husband. Instead he allowed us to use the restroom without saying anything except with me, he said that the restroom for women is open and since he said it is open, I tried to access it by pushing it since I thought it is just stucked. And for sure! Since I am Asian, he said something about me breaking the door and that he does not want to Charge me $700 if I break the sensor. What a rude man! On top of that, he has been eating and Chewing while he is Helping Other people. Very unprofessional. He does not represent this gas station well. It's your typical stop with a bit more than the typical gas station items. There's tons of route 66 souvenirs here too. Kinda pricey but it's expected. They have maps, gasoline and clean restrooms. After certain time however, the restrooms are closed and you won't be able to find the keys in their usual hanging spot outside of the restrooms. Still no reception here but all in good fun and a God sent if you need directions, gas or snacks :) read more

In 2021, we were driving back to California from Utah and our air-conditioning compressor went out. We were picked up by AAA tow truck and they brought us to this station where the owner replaced the compressor for us overnight, and gave us a two year warranty or 24,000 miles. Our Compressor went out again under the warranty miles so we made the trip to Barstow to have it repaired. Apparently the previous owner sold the gas station and the new owner would not honor the warranty. He wouldn't even talk to us. We are in 100+ weather with no air conditioner and within our warranty. He said he bought the business but not the warranties. I'm just wondering how many other people were given warranties that he won't honor. We are having to have it fixed elsewhere because driving any farther will void the warranty now. Be careful not to use these people for any kind of auto repairs since they will not honor the warranties given. We fully intens on suing them in this county's small claims court for the cost that we're gonna have to pay to have it repaired again and also for all of our travel expenses to come to this station to have warranty work done. We've already had our mileage verified by local shop also confirm that this shop has been known to scam customers for years. We also found out that the owner decided just to not do repairs and so they're telling people that he's sold the business and that it's someone else, but another shop in town told us it's the same owner. So this should be interesting. This would have been an easy fix but now it's going to cost them quite a bit more. See you in court. read more

The 2 guys that were there were quick, thorough, and, most importantly, honest. My vehicle was towed to Fuel Stop in Barstow, CA. This was recommended by AAA as a safe secure area. Did not realize it was insecure area. I checked into Super 8 for the night. A though my vehicle was only parked Saturday overnight. I had damage done to the driver's side door, the maintenance shop manager said someone possible a homeless person attempted to break out the windows and managed to dent the door Scar the Window. My vehicle was seen by the shop personnel and light saying service engine soon. No drive test of vehicle diagnostics test was $95 which indicated my transmission code T163155, replace transmission total cost of $6,220.13. The shop was filled with five vehicles all with similar transmission problems. I said no, wanted to get a second opinion so, I called AAA California again, thinking the car was not drivable it was towed to Mojave Ford & Nissan on Monday again 2 more nights at Super 8 Motel. They could not look at the car had the courtesy shuttle take be back to the hotel. Another $120.00 to diagnostics testing. I was told that afternoon my car had something broken in the transmission it was overheating that it would take two weeks to get transmission in and replaced. I had planned to leave Barstow by bus or rent a truck with a hitch to get it back to Las Vegas on Tuesday Morning. The car started up drove it a couple blocks. Told the Dealership I was going to take my chances and drove 157 miles to Las Vegas. No problems with the transmission whatsoever. If you have a hiccup on the highway and your vehicle stalls and comes to a stop. Hope it not in Barstow, CA at Fuel Stop or Mojave Ford and Nissan. What a terrible experience... Still waiting for AAA Towing in California Courtesy Center to call me in reference to the damage done to my vehicle since it didn't need a transmission. I was sick after I saw the damage, but I thought the car was broke and that was the least of my problems. The AAA Club in Nevada suggested I call the manager of the maintenance shop to ask if it was going to be fixed by Fuel Stop. He again said no, they were not responsible. Just like others, I found this place a year ago when my car broke down on the 15 coming home from Vegas.The way the car was was losing power, I knew it was the fuel pump. It was about 2:30 on a Friday afternoon when I called AAA for a tow. Said it would take around 40 minutes to hour since I requested a flatbed, which was fine with me. AAA then asked if I had a destination, which I hadn't since a tow back to LA county would be a couple of hundred, so I asked for a recommended garage. This is when I was directed to Barstow Fuel. With a couple of delays, my car and I arrived around 4:50 PM, 10 minutes until the closed. They said they could run diagnostics but it will cost extra since it would run into after hours. He recommended that I wait until the morning just in case I decided to get it fix there since they can include the price if the diagnostic into fix (diagnostic would be free). I agreed and checked into the motel next door. The next morning he begins diagnostics on my car and confirms that it was the fuel pump. He quoted around $1300 with the AAA discount, and will have to send a driver down the hill into Riverside to pick up the parts at Mercedes. I asked if i could have 30 minutes to think about it, and he obliged. Off to Starbucks so I can do some research. Parts would have cost 600 and a tow home would have cost 300. $900 is better than $1300, but it was a Saturday and parts would have arrived on Tuesday. That would have meant been without a car for 4 days, which justified paying the difference. I tell them go for it and they get a driver to go pick up the parts. I figure it will take all day so I decide to hang out in Starbucks since they have WiFi, checking in on the status a few times. I sat by the window and watched many cars getting service that day, they were extremely busy. Most of their customers looked like they were local, with a few being in a similar situation as I. Close to 4 PM, my car was fixed and I was on my way home. Staff was extremely friendly and courteous. They used new Genuine Mercedes parts and even showed me what was replaced. It's hard not to recommend this place since its one of the few places around the area, but I'm glad I did take AAA's recommendation. I was actually surprised to see poor reviews on Yelp. We were stranded here for a few hrs and they were very helpful and accommodating even though we didn't get any service done. From what they said to me, it matched what I was later told by my own mechanic, so I guess they didn't try to hustle me too much (3 girls alone in Barstow on the way to Vegas, can you say "sucka")... though what they quoted me was a little on the high side, but what do you expect out in the middle of no where... Incompetent cheats and liars. Our Ford Taurus broke down and was towed to Barstow Fuel on the recommendation of the tow company. Three days passed and they never called me. I ended up calling them several times to get updates on the repair as we continued our trip in a rental; each time they said they were "waiting on word from Ford." After three days they said that they didn't understand the car because it was "too complicated" and they had never even torn it down. Their "diagnostic" involved putting it on a lift and saying that it was leaking oil. No crap, I figured that out on my own at midnight in the middle of the Mojave. Rather than be straight with me they strung me along. When I demanded the car be towed to a competent shop, they drove it there on a bad differential, which is probably why it chewed itself up and has to be completely replaced rather than just a seal being fixed. Their "diagnostic fee" is even more expensive than the dealership, they are rude, inconsiderate, uncommunicative and incompetent. I would rather trust my car to a high school auto shop than take it back to Barstow Fuel. read more

I put 76 gasoline in my car 99% of the time so it was nice to see a 76 gas station between L.A. and Vegas. It's a very convenient location when traveling between those cities. The station also has a mini-food mart where you can buy snacks, drinks, coffee, etc. They recently remodeled their restrooms so it's a comfort that I don't have to cringe going into a gas station restroom. Actually, for a gas station restroom, it's pretty clean! (I can only speak for the men's restroom...don't know about the women's side....). What I observe in public restrooms is that more often that not, women's restrooms tend to be a lot filthier than the men's. Be aware though that the restroom is located on the side of the building. So if you are traveling alone and happen to stop by here in the middle of the night I'd be extra cautious for safety's sake specially if you are a woman. The only thing I don't like is that the gas price tends to be higher than in L.A. It range from .25 to .50 cents higher. I guess it's a premium you have to pay for convenience being out in the middle of nowhere. On the plus side, there is a Starbucks right next to this place. :) read more

Our car broke down coming back to California on the way home from Las Vegas. We were closer to Baker but paid to be towed all the way to Barstow because they had rental cars in town. We chose Barstow Fuel auto repair because it was the only AAA authorized auto repair place in Barstow. Bill diagnosed problem for $95. Then fixed the car the next day. He was awesome! Great mechanic! I was coming back home to Las Vegas and we got a flat tire we were lucky to be passing Barstow so we pulled up to this tire shop on Main street. "Fred" the manager, if that is his real name, was so unexplainably rude and completely refused service to me and my family. Keep in mind it is mid-June and temperatures are 100+ and I had my two little boys ages 2 and 3 in the blazing sun waiting to get help from "Fred" and he could have cared less for the current situation we were in. He even had the audacity to say "what do you want me to feel sorry for you? because of your little kids?" his excuse for not helping was "I came in on my day off" but me and my husband both felt discriminated against due to his tone of voice and him barely even acknowledging us. Be careful, they have a scammer. Would not take our first debit card so we used a second bank card. Accepted that had 13.128 galleons for a total of $63.00. On our drive back from California to home in Colorado my bank contacts us for suspicious activity....there was a $1.00 charge (which I am sure was to make sure it would go) and then they charged $100.00. We are lucky my bank immediately reversed the charges but there is a scam going on. These guys do sloppy work!! I would give them a negative star if it that was an option. I was driving back from Vegas to LA when my car broke down due to overheating. Had AAA tow my car to this place as it was recommended by them. They replaced the electric water pump. The following day I picked up the car and didn't even make it one hour down the road when my car started overheating again. I had it towed to another shop and discovered they left the ground wire loose. This caused the electric pump to short out and burned up. What a disaster! Worse repair shop ever! read more

About three years ago we had a tire blowout on the freeway traveling back from Vegas and this shop was very helpful and was able to get us back in the road in about an hour. This last weekend we were making our annual trek back to Vegas and our A/C went out!! We stopped by this shop again and were helped immediately. I didn't get his name, but he was an older gentleman helped us. We thought we just needed a recharge but he said he thought it was an electrical issue. He was able to test it and diagnose it within 10 minutes. He even helped us with a quote to get the work done even though he knew we wouldn't be staying in Barstow to have it done.
