Such a fun workout! We will definitely come back. Our coach was great with high energy. I developed a love for fitness over the years and this type of class is fun to switch it up from my normal routine. The smoothies at their in-house smoothie bar were delicious.

I started my Barry's journey here at the marina district, it's been awesome so far! I started with Tommy and he basically gave me a rundown of how it should all work. I also like that their lockers aren't the combination locks like most gyms are! Everyone there is so friendly and wants to know how to pronounce your name correctly which I absolutely loved. I made a pact with myself to work out and get healthy this year. i've never taken more than 30 classes at different locations and have never been so excited to attend a class. It is recommended for anyone looking to change their body , burn some fat, lose some weight and build mental health. thanks barrys marina!

I've been going to Barry's at least 2x/month via Class Pass. The only reason I am docking off the one star is for the price. Kinda steep at $34/class, but with Class Pass, it breaks it down to about ~$25 a class with the plan that I chose. If you're hoping to attend Barry's more consistently, they do offer packages, but pricing does vary depending on location. Class Pass is definitely a great alternative if you'd like to attend classes here and there. The only classes I've tried out at this location have been Full Body (Sunday) and Arms & Abs (Monday). I've tried Abs on a Thursday, but at the SoMa location! Although this is a little further of a drive from me, it definitely is easier to find parking. It's a lot bigger too with more spots available to choose from. I've had Vanessa, Kathryn, and Brian as my instructors. They're all great. They play great music and are have tons of energy to motivate you through the hour. When you book your spot, you can either choose between FLOOR (F), TREADMILL (T), and DOUBLE FLOOR (DF). You alternate between the floor and tread for several rounds. Time spent on the floor and tread depends on your instructor. They've got Woodway treadmills which are fantastic. It makes it so easy to switch between incline levels & speeds with a quick push of a number. I definitely feel a lot more support on my feet running on these! Personally, when I do arms & abs, I like to start off on the tread just because I like to get my body warmed up and that way I don't have to end up on the tread on the last round so I won't be so out of breath, haha. With class pass though, you don't really have the option to choose where you want to be, but sometimes, if the class isn't too crazy full, you can request to be on a tread if you aren't booked on one already. The workouts can definitely be intense. Weights start at 8 lbs and the instructors usually have the ladies start at a minimum of 10-15 lbs! On the tread you alternate speeds & incline. The incline runs are what kills me the most, but the more I've come to Barry's, the stronger & faster I've become! Not gonna lie, the first time I attended a class here... I thought wow, this is the hardest workout I've ever done. But being around a class full of people definitely pushes you to workout harder! I always feel great afterwards. Like damn, I made it through a whole hour of that - go me! The bathrooms are equipped with some great amenities. They've got Oribe everything - that's that good stuff! They've got plenty of towels, makeup remover wipes, blow dryer, tampons, hair ties... all you need really! Lockers are available in the women's bathroom, but also in the hallway outside. They have a fuel bar where you can pre-order your post-workout smoothie so it'll be ready for you after class. My all-time favorite is Barrys & Brunch! I can't wait until they open their Burlingame location!

Continue to love on Barry's marina day in and day out - this workout is just the best in the business. Each time you take a class, it's a new sequence of runs and floor work. I appreciate all the staff and instructors as they truly care about your workout, health, and well being. Big shout out to my favorite instructor for his hard core Wednesday morning classes, Vidal! Thanks for you do for our Barry's community! His classes are top notch, fun, energetic, very hard, but very rewarding. Always walk out of CHABS day with a smile on my face. With that said, you can try any of the amazing instructors and you won't be disappointed! The prices are steep, I recommend balling out and buying a holiday package for the 4 days they offer them in December. Otherwise, try to get your company on corporate perks for year round packages! It's worth the mula, treat yourself to Barry's instead of things that are bad for your body!!

Great morning workout session while traveling for work! Would highly recommend. The red room is larger than typical NY studios and instructors are very into the workout. Clean locker rooms with plenty of lockers.

What happened to the Oribe products! Barry's is a premium price class, but always enjoyed the products.

I got on ClassPass and had heard of Barry's Bootcamp in SF, so I decided to try the one in the Marina.

I have been taking the intermediate class with Daniel and Andy. Both provide two different styles…read more Daniel focuses on the technical side in terms of what what possible move can come next in real-life boxing scenarios while Andy focuses as well on technical but mitt-style but with gloves and more fast paced combos and also work on bags. I have taken other instructors but those two are my fave! Highly recommend. Gym vibes are a plus!

I was excited to see that another boxing gym has opened in SF and is available on ClassPass, which…read moremakes it easy to drop in and try out a class if you have a CP membership (if not, no worries, Bay Breakers regularly has its own trials and specials!). I have been to Bay Breakers a few times already and have had a great experience each time. Beginner class: I love that they offer free glove rentals for the beginner classes, which is perfect if you're just starting out and don't know yet if you want to commit to purchasing your own gloves/equipment. In Daniel's classes, he always starts with a jump rope warmup (a great workout on its own IMO, even though it's only for a few minutes) and walks the class through the numbered punches before working on some combos together. I have taken some other boxing classes around SF which tend to be more fitness-oriented (like Rumble?), and this class was a bit different since it was more focused on stance and technique, which I really appreciated to help build familiarity and confidence. Gym: My understanding is the gym is still getting up and running, so some of the areas are still unfinished (e.g., one of the restrooms). That being said, the main gym/workout areas are all good to go (as far as I can tell). There are cubbies at the back of the gym which feel safe since they're far away from the main door on Van Ness, curtained off changing areas, restrooms, showers, etc. Location: It's on Van Ness which is relatively easy to get to. There's a MUNI bus stop right outside, and a few other routes around the nearby intersections. With my current schedule, I'm unable to come to Bay Breakers as often as I'd prefer, but I always enjoy the experience here and look forward to coming more often in the future hopefully.

Equinox Union Street - Stupidity

Let me count the ways how much I miss and love Equinox…read more Yes, I know--it's a high-end gym. But you truly get what you pay for. I was a member of this location for over a decade, and since moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, I can honestly say there is nothing quite like it. The nearest one to me now is in Atlanta, and I still miss the San Mateo club regularly. This location has everything you could possibly want in a fitness facility--and then some. The Fitness Floor Downstairs is a beautifully air-conditioned workout space designed for people who are serious about exercising. No distractions, no crowds hovering by the windows--just a clean, focused environment. You'll find: * Full weight training equipment * Recumbent bikes, ellipticals, and treadmills * Dedicated spin, Pilates, TRX, and group fitness studios * A large open stretching area with foam rollers * Cold, filtered water stations throughout * Staff available for spotting if you're training solo It's efficient, professional, and thoughtfully designed. Locker Rooms & Amenities The locker rooms feel more like a boutique hotel than a gym. They are consistently spotless and fully stocked with: * Plush towel service * Spacious showers with teak benches * Steam rooms infused with eucalyptus * Complimentary razors, Q-tips, and personal care items * Premium Kiehl's products It's luxurious, yes--but also incredibly practical. You can comfortably get ready for work, dinner, or travel without feeling rushed. The Rooftop Pool One of the standout features is the heated rooftop pool. It has multiple lap lanes, cabanas, and water aerobics equipment, and it truly feels like a mini country club in the middle of downtown San Mateo. The pool is heated year-round, which means you can swim in any season--something you quickly get spoiled by. They even provide sunscreen from Supergoop!, along with full towel service. It's those little details that make the experience feel elevated. Classes, Spa & Services The class offerings are extensive and easy to manage through the app. Signing in is seamless--just scan your phone and go. Highlights include: * Yoga in a beautiful bamboo studio with HEPA filtration and ceiling fans * Pilates (available as private, duo, or small-group sessions) * A full-service spa on the upper level * A juice bar and retail shop featuring premium fitness apparel Everything feels intentional, polished, and well-maintained. Location & Convenience The club is located right in the heart of downtown San Mateo, making it incredibly walkable. There are restaurants, grocery stores, and cafés nearby, including one of my favorite bakeries and specialty markets. Parking is also surprisingly easy for a downtown location: * Two-hour validation * Surface lot, garage, and rooftop parking options That convenience makes a big difference in daily use. Value & Membership Yes, membership can be expensive. However, many employers offer corporate discounts, which can make the cost more manageable. In my case, the value absolutely justified the price because I used the facility regularly and took advantage of the amenities. Even when I relocated, canceling my membership was straightforward and professional--no pressure, no hassle. Bottom Line Equinox San Mateo set the standard for what a fitness club should be: clean, thoughtfully designed, service-oriented, and genuinely enjoyable to use. If I ever move to another city with an Equinox, I will join again without hesitation. Because at the end of the day-- life is short, and you should live well.
