I ordered a service to put new floor decor in my kitchen and office.
I used to go straight to the store on Myrtle and Fresh Pond Road, but that location closed down for some reason, and apparently none of the staff that was at the fresh pond location works there anymore.
When I had a rep from Barry's come he seemed kind and friendly. Then I showed him my awfully old carpet and the bare kitchenette floor I had ripped up because I could not stand to see the peel and stick tiles any longer. When he came in, he assessed the floor and rooms.
When I asked to see some samples, he took the book, opened it up, and plopped it on the floor. O_o?? This made me feel quite insulted at the moment, but since this was something for the whole family, I have used this company for years I thought, maybe this guy has had a bad day, or is accustomed to tossing books on floors. Since he works with floors?
I selected my choice, and the sample was hard, and it was a light honey color. When the day came it was light with faux wood grain dark inlay swirled into the pattern. And it was a roll out linoleum. I was quite upset when I asked him if it was hard like this on the floor meaning laminate. Because I asked if there was the foam under the strips was included in the price. He said " no it's one solid piece, we measure the entire room and we cut it to the exact size and bring it here to install. " me thinking : " wow, he is going to bring these huge pieces of laminate up the stairs and install it? It must be heavy." I paid him $850.00 for two joining rooms.
He came during the day, and two guys came and took care of the rooms. They had nothing to pull up except maybe some nails that I might have unintentionally overlooked, because it was trash day (Tuesdays) and I had tossed out the tiles and the carpeting that morning, furniture was out and the rooms were clear. They came at 10:00am and were done by 1:30pm. Timing was good, but they glued the edges with liquid nails, -_________- and added a saddle that was a honey color that does not even match the flooring they gave me, but the flooring I requested. I was initially upset about the difference in colors. The same man came back and once again came in and opened up the sample book and threw it on the floor for me to go and pick up to see for myself at normal face level. He blamed the manufacturer for the poor judgement on the samples for this sample and the item number on the flooring are exactly the same. When I showed the guy putting the flooring down that they were different colors, he looked at me and shrugged, and continued to do his work. It was only because we have children in the home and I didn't want them hurting their feet on anything that was exposed on the bare floors. If that was not a concern, I would of done what I wanted, and tell them to give me my money back and take their heinous flooring with them.
After that, they left a bag of trash in the middle of the room. I asked the guy to take it with him and he just looked at me and left.
Until this very day, I still cannot open my pantry door fully, (I could before). I was told that it was door that was faulty, and not their fault.
When I called, I asked for the manager and to my surprise, was the same man that I have been dealing with this whole time, . . . . gee, how swell. He explains to me that they don't take out their own trash because they are not a dump and they don't have dumpsters to take trucks full of trash back and forth. He also explains that he would email me the contact info of the manufacturer so I can complain myself since he said he cannot do anything for me. He also let me know this is the second time a customer has complained about the flooring, and they had the same exact complaints that I did. Now....wouldn't't that be a clear indication that maybe you should take a larger sample for people to see then? So you wouldn't have the same complaints AGAIN?
Two weeks and several phone calls later, I get only a name of the manufacturer, no contact information, I had to search for it myself, and when I finally got through to someone, the representative from the manufacturer states that they have never heard of the store before, or the manager, or address, etc. That they do not sell to that company
Hmm, how convenient for me I guess. -__-
After a few more phone calls to the shop, a woman wild pick up and say that the manager was not available, or he is not here. So I guess they won, but it would be hard to use them ever again, after this antic. My family and I have used them for over 28 years, betweeon six different home in our family. After seeing how upset I was, you'd think he'd say something or do something to make it better, but did nothing. How petty of this business to run and hide, by ignoring their customers when they are truly unhappy instead of fixing the problem, or offering a solution. read more
