Great BBQ and fish. The most tender and moist BBQ I've had. Ribs are just right; come off bone with ease. Their homemade sauces are fantastic. This place was recommended to me by a friend in Chicago, who has family that lives in northern Alabama. She said it's in the middle of nowhere (correct), not a lot of options (correct) but what they do have they do incredibly well (absolutely correct!!). Pulled up and literally, this place looks like a shed/garage in the backyard of Barry's house that's been converted to a restaurant. Hours are sparse, Thurs & Fri 11AM - 7:30PM (might be 11:30AM start) and Sat 12-7:30PM...That's it...three days to get some of the best tasting, simple yet exquisite, southern food...on the menu today was Fried Chicken, Chopped Pork, Baked Beans, Fried Potato Wedges, Collards, Potato Salad, Cole Slaw, Rolls, Cornbread Muffins, Peach Cobbler and Ice Cream (both homemade)...and delicious sweet tea! Everything tasted exactly like it's supposed to taste...if it was made by an ol' southern grandma on a Sunday morning for Sunday-after-church-lunch...perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked.... And the young lady waiting on tables (it wasn't busy at all and I'm not sure why it wasn't) was just a doll....she asked if it was my first time, explained to me how it worked, checked on me to make sure I was ok...and my total was $10 to be completely stuffed! Barry's BBQ is legendary with the people I work with. The hours are sparse Thursday thru Saturday only. Only since the invention of apps like Yelp were people made aware of little joints like this. Places like this go largely undiscovered by non locals. There is no signage. Prior to everyone having GPS the location was a you had to know somebody to know with any certainty that you've found it. It's the tiny divey place behind some guys house in a residential area in Fyfe, Alabama. I've heard for years how awesome this place is. Guys I work with drive out of their way for miles to go to Barry's. Lunch time is a buffet for 7 dollars and change. Roughly a 1 more for a Coke/tea. Today's selections which may be the usual offerings included large chunks of super smoky, tender delicious BBQ pork, some of the juiciest, most crisp and flavorful fried chicken I've had and sides; greens, pintos, BBQ beans, coleslaw, potato salad, potato wedges cobbler and a few types of bread including my choice corn bread muffins. Additionally, they make a couple flavors of homemade ice cream which is included. They have 2 sauce options a vinegar based slightly spicy which I quite enjoyed and a thick sweet sauce I did not try. Aesthetically this place is not for everyone when you pull up. It's turning off the main road on multiple country roads in rural residential Fyfe. Further if you're buffet adverse you might not want to venture over. But the buffet was well stocked clean and the table and interior were clean. The food was far superior to average buffet style. You can order sandwiches, chicken the sIdes etc from a menu; however, it's likely coming from the same buffet stock. The young lady working the front of the house was sitting with patrons upon our arrival. When 5 obvious out of towners walked in she stood and greeted us and asked if we'd been there before. She proceeded to give us the lay of the land. We filled our plates and sat. She came back over and asked how we heard about them. We chatted for a bit told her we were in town with work and the reputation from several coworkers lead us over today. After years of hearsay with regard to the secret location and claims of how great this place was I thought I'd have to know a secret handshake and password to get in. I did notice a considerable number of publications regarding this business adorning the walls. Among the best was recognition as one of the top 100 things to eat in Alabama before you die for the homemade cobbler. 100% recommend if you like BBQ chicken and fresh sides. The greens and pintos were better than 90% of the meat and threes you see throughout the state but the chicken BBQ and sauce were the absolute stars in the menu in my opinion. They have the sauce made for them. It's good. I asked about purchasing some but they do not have it bottled. You can buy it by the pint. I passed as I knew that was a stain in my car that would never come out. If you find yourself anywhere near this spot it's absolutely worth trying. read more

This is some of the best small town BBQ I've ever had and the prices are really good. I was on a road trip through Alabama from California and decided to try this place based on yelp reviews. It is super out of the way behind the owners house with no sign and no advertising so it's really easy to miss but once you find it you won't be disappointed. The pulled pork was moist and flavorful, the peach cobbler was addicting and I was skeptical about the catfish but pleasantly surprised how tender it was. This rates as a top notch bbq place for several reasons #1 it is located in the middle of no where with no sign just the line of people standing outside waiting to get in. #2 the amount of smoked pork they do per year (thousands of pounds) just ask. #3 they don't cover up the taste of their pork with sauce. We drove quite a way to eat lunch here without realizing Barry's doesn't do the buffet at lunch. There was a very limited menu for lunch: chicken tenders, catfish, and BBQ sandwiches with around four or five plain Jane sides to choose from. It was good but not extraordinary. The buffet ( which I've been to) starts at 4:00 on Thurs., and 4:30 on Fri and Sat. and is usually extremely crowded. It's good value at around $10. read more

This place is amazing. I've been here several times on my way through rainsville. It's a drive from where I'm at, but worth it. It's literally in a man's backyard. The staff is always friendly, and it's a serve yourself type buffet. Their home made ice-cream is always amazing, as is the cobbler they usually have. Finding this little place is an adventure, right up until the parking lot and even entering the door. Then it's down to business with the best BBQ I have had. The ribs are ok - not the best I have had. My favorite is the fried chicken and pulled pork. The pulled pork is not tradional but more small cube/chunks but is really good! I don't eat fish but those whom I went with said it was the best they ever had. We intially went on a bachelor party outting and the guys were not too thrilled of driving a hour for food. Once they started eating and even until now they still rave about the food. The service was good but we did seem to be the youngest people in there. Mostly older couples and tables were fairly tight due to the size but what do you expect when your eating in someones back yard? Since my first visit I have been back 2 other times and I live over 1.5 hrs away. We plan ahead and people fight over who gets to go on each trip I make. Two of the Three times I ate so much my top button of my pants popped off as soon as I got to the car! That should tell you something! The home made ice cream is top notch and butterfinger was my favorite. I did consider putting some in my to-go cup to bring home! The cole slaw and the home made BBQ sauce were great also! The only downside if I had to mention any would be the corn on the cob was nothing special and the amount of selection on the small buffett. I also didn't understand why you are asked to leave a tip at a buffett when you get your own food and your own drink? They do come around and ask if we need anything and take our finished plates...oh well small price to pay for the food! The price of only 10.95 cannot be beat for the amount of food you get, the quality and the good service. OMG! I absolutely love this place! We came out once before during lunch when they didn't have the buffet. It was good BBQ then...but this trip was a real treat. The buffet had fried chicken...chicken livers...corn on the cob...pintos...turnip greens...corn...BBQ pork... muffins...rolls...slaw...red skin potato salad...hush puppies . We had a small bite of everything on the buffet and there wasn't anything that was not delicious. They also had strawberry and vanilla homemade ice cream that came with the bar. Peach & blueberry cobbler was offered for $1.50 more. Buffet was $8.59. This place is right on a farm so I imagine the chicken was pulled right from the chicken houses because tasted fresh...as did the livers. My grandparents had commercial chicken houses for Tyson and every Sunday they'd go get some good ones out of the houses and started cleaning them. I remember how fresh those chickens were...and these tasted just like eating fried chicken at Granny & PawPaw's. Catfish was so good...hush puppies were light and fluffy. This is my the first time I've ever been here. First of all it was a long wait. We got put at a round table with two other people. (I'm not complaining they were very very nice people.) They do have good catfish and bbq. I didn't try the chicken, you'll have to be the judge of that. The hush puppies were kind of cold, and the ice cream was melty. It is a buffet by the way. We did not get a check when we were ready to leave. We went up there and the guy working the counter told us to tell him what we got. My sister highly recommended this place. The place definitely lives up to her rave reviews. The place has a menu but they also have a buffet. The Buffet has some of the best catfish I ever ate. There is a good variety of food on the buffet. They also have bbq, broasted chicken, and chicken liver. They might have 4-6 vegetables on the buffet and for bread we had hush puppies and dinner rolls. The meal includes ice cream and all you want to drink. The homemade ice cream is so good. The day we went to eat, the ice cream choices were banana, butterfinger, vanilla, and strawberry. It was all homemade and it was beyond good. The meal was priced right in my opinion at 10.95. The restrooms are so clean and the people are super nice. If you like hidden treasures, this is one for sure. The hours are limited to Thursday- Saturday. When we did find it, we were one of only a few tables in the place. I decided to have the lunch buffet and order a few pieces of catfish to try. On the buffet was fried chicken, bbq pork, greens, baked beans, pinto beans, cornbread, fried potato wedges, and biscuits. and i cannot forget the fresh cobbler. everything was delicious, especially the pinto beans, pork, and crispy catfish. on each table are three different sauces for the pork. for dessert we added the homemade ice cream to the cobbler. quite delicious. i will definitely be heading out on the mountain to Barry's every time I'm in the area! read more
