November 12, 2025 | Whittier | The Original Barro's Pizza was a delicious surprise that a couple of friends introduced me to on Wednesday! An unforgettable crust, with vegetables falling all over the place... my mouth is watering as I write! 16 inch Pizza | 1/2 Veggies & 1/2 Meat! I clearly had the veggie part, which was delicious! Can we talk about the crust, though? Incredible, so puffy, yet light & so good you can eat the crust on its own! The pizza itself was oozing with dripping, stretchy cheese, and the toppings were falling all over because there were so many... Yum!! Customer Service | Friendly from the moment we all walked in! Also, quite helpful with the menu! The new owner Kevin took our order and told us a bit about the business! After 43 years, the owner/operator of Barro's Pizza, George retired in 2024 & Kevin took his place! There is even a black and white photo of the two smiling & shaking hands on the back of the menu! Also, while deciding on what to order, another customer was helpful and so friendly, it was fun chatting with her as well! Vibe | Front and center is an actual jukebox with a flat screen TV above it, around the corner, several gum ball machines, pinball machines and actual life-size video games! This place is meant for fun and dancing and I like it! Hahaha! Note | A few weeks ago, one of my friends, who was also sitting at the table with us, told us one of the funniest stories from his childhood that took place at Barro's Pizza! We couldn't stop laughing for quite some time, as it could easily be a full-on episode of a TV show! We laughed about it all over again for quite some time once we sat down to eat! Hahaha! Sadly , Barros isn't what it used to be. George took the yum yum with him . The dough is dry and too thick . The sauce is off they don't use enough to compensate for the thick dry dough. The cheese used to be creamier . The sausage used to have fennel seeds in it and tasted better. Odd thing is that the new owner worked there when George was running things. So the question is why change a proven formula that has stood the test of time? Cost ? George kept the original dough recipe to himself ? Who knows ? It's been years since I've had Barro's Pizza and it certainly didn't disappoint. Pizza was loaded with toppings that I chose and the sauce was excellent. Crust was thick and perfectly toasted. The young man who took my order was polite and helpful on the phone and when I picked up my order. The dining room was clean and spacious with booths and a tv to watch your favorite game. Ordered the MR "B" combo substituting the ham with sausage. BTW their Sausage is the epitome of SAUSAGE which should be the pizza standard. Their Sausage hasn't changed in 50 years! I get mine 'turned twice'. Order it this way if you like it well done. My reason for 4stars is that the sauce needs just a little something. A spike of seasoning or a little tang. Just something. We always get it to go and the person who takes phone orders is friendly enough. The pizza isn't fancy, it's just fantastic tasting! I love the sauce and the pepperoni. This place brings back so many memories. I worked at one of their locations briefly back in the early '90s. It was a smaller chain with several spots spread throughout Southern California. It was a staple in my neighborhood and I never forgot that thick crust, cheese, and that spicy sweet sauce. About 15 years ago, my friend and I stumbled upon one of the last remaining locations -- and to our surprise, it was the exact same pizza we remembered from our childhood. Now, even though it's about 30 minutes from home, I still make the drive. It's that good. The longtime owner recently retired and handed the reins to a new owner, who couldn't have been more welcoming. He clearly respects the legacy of this place and I really appreciate how he's kept the quality and vibe alive. Indoor seating, which had been closed for some time, is now open again, and it's great to see the place full of life. Same awesome pizza. Same nostalgic experience. Barro's definitely has the best pizza! They are my go to for pizza. Their Mr. B's pizza is loaded with mushrooms, green bell peppers, onions, pepperoni and Canadian smoked ham. It's so delicious! I'm not even an onion lover but even that tastes good on this yummy pizza! Btw, you could look up a coupon online, write out your own on a paper, and take it in. The staff is always friendly! There is one guy who has been working there forever and every time you pick up your pizza, he will open the box to make sure it looks good and say, "Yum, Yum"! I'm gonna go out on a limb and say I tried this joint because it had 4 stars. Outside is dirty and unkempt. It is hard to tell if they are open or not. Inside... check the pictures and judge for yourself. Dirty!!! So much dust it might take a week to clean up? On to the pizza... I gotta say the crust was very good! One of the best crusts I've had... top 5 anyway. The crust could be thinner ... but it tastes fresh made. I don't want to think about dust in my pizza ... so let's forget that for now. Sauce is good. Cheese is good. Ham didn't taste fresh so I pulled it off. Pineapples were ridiculous so I pulled them off too. So, my cheese pizza was good. However, I would never come here again! No way! Get this; I asked for extra napkins ,since I'd be eating in my car, THEY DON'T HAVE NAPKINS! How do you not have napkins? I've never heard of a restaurant without napkins. I was so excited to try this Barro's location, since the only one that I knew was in Westminster off of Garden Grove and Beach Blvd which closed in the early 2000's or so. I ordered a 16" Pizza today and left the restaurant. When I got the pizza to eat later with my friends, two of the pizza toppings were uncooked uncooked (Olives and Onions). The dough needed a to be a little more cooked since it was kind of doughy and had that raw chew to it in certain places. I came along way only to be disappointed. I had better pizza at Little Caesars to be honest. I'm hoping that it was one of the younger guys being new at making pizza. I hope this issue will be corrected in a positive way so that they will thrive and succeed in business creating the perfect pizza for the next orders. I'm going to have to find a place that has an oven to recorrect this issue. Pros: Pizza was generously and heavily loaded with 4 toppings.
