John the horseman and Stephen our guide, made this a memorable experience. John even prayed for my husband, who is currently battling cancer. Sweet spirit on this property.

My partner attempted to get on the horse and the horse collapsed with him on its back. We were repeatedly told that the horse was fine and was still okay to ride. They lied. We trusted professionals to ensure our safety and the safety of their own horses. I have videos of the horse ride showing the horse constantly bobbing its head up and down. Not knowing much about riding, I still knew that this didn't look right. "Bobbing its head up and down indicates lameness, discomfort, or pain". WHY LET US RIDE THEN?! We were also told that this exact horse had 10 rides the day before, including someone who weighed up to almost 400lbs. HOW IS THAT HUMANE?! Why do other companies have weight limits and this one does not? If someone is too big for the horse, MAYBE THEY SHOULDN'T BE RIDING THAT POOR HORSE TO BEGIN WITH! Knowing that my money contributed to the pain and suffering of these horses is killing me. This company should be ashamed of themselves for allowing these horses to live in pain solely for human profit. I would have much rather cancelled this whole experience and received a refund, but instead they let us ride an already badly injured horse. Once this horse can't take it anymore, they will likely just break another's back. If you truly love horses, this is not the place to spend your money. Please contact Paintbrush Adventures instead! I went there after my terrible experience here and I actually learned so much about horseback riding and safety!

They offer relaxing rides to enjoy the breathtaking scenery from meadows down to the rivers, or more advanced rides to hells canyon where you can experience rocky terrain and steep inclines. They pair you with your horse for the week so you can really establish a bond. The fly fishing is great! They offer lessons for first timers in their pond which does not require a license or you can head down to the boulder river and enjoy some of the best fishing in the area (license required). They offer other activities such as a Jeep ride, river floating, campfire dinners, and games (volleyball, horseshoes, and roping). There is a hot tub to soak your worries away in your spare time and lots of places to sit to take the beautiful views in. You will not go hungry during your stay here! The food is homemade, fresh and prepared for cowboys and cowgirls! Enjoy meals such as steaks, pastas, potatoes, brisket, full chicken, fresh veggies, seafood, salmon (fresh!), burgers prepared over a campfire, full breakfast spread of pancakes, eggs, bacon, homemade breads, muffin and more. We brought snacks with us that we purchased in big timber and did not touch them once so leave those in big timber and bring your appetite as they do not disappoint! The best part of our stay was the staff. This is a family run operation and it shows by the level of service they provide. I haven't ever experienced something quite like this before. The level of passion, care and concern they have for each one of us was so amazing. They just want each guest to have the best time and live their life to the fullest for the week they are at their property. There are no TVs, radios, cell phones so this is a time to truly disconnect. You can choose to get a phone card which will work in the main lodge for emergencies. The staff for the summer of 2019 hit it out of the park which is why all but two of the families were repeat guests who keep coming year after year. We can't wait to return to Hawley mountain and can't speak highly enough about this magical piece of the world.

The horses were well cared for and surefooted on the mountain trails. Every ride was to a different location with AWESOME views. This was a week spent in "paradise". Despite the lockdowns and social distancing, there's still opportunity to celebrate the season…read more Every year Zoo Montana has a holiday light display where visitors need never leave their cars. I don't know what it's been like in years past, but this year the line has been almost out the entrance every night. I think people are restless. The price is reasonable, ten dollars per car, slightly more for a truck/van/camper, but still a good deal. Reservations aren't required. They also have wagons, pulled by draft horses, each wagon holding about 30 people for those in larger groups, or wanting to see the lights without a window in the way. The wagon rides take about 30 minutes, costs a bit more, and reservations for this are recommended. With the current state of social distancing requirements, they prefer you sign up for a wagon ride as a group with your family/friends, but if you are going alone or in a small group, masks are absolutely required and they will sell you one there. And, you'll need to bring whatever you need to keep warm on the colder nights. Wagon ride with a bunch of people or not, it can get cold. On the night we went, we arrived early enough to be in the first group of cars. Drive slow, there's many displays -- nutcrackers, reindeer, Santa, stars, candy canes, etc. Unless you're the first car, it's easier to see the road and the lights if headlights are off. But, because there's always one (or two) in every crowd, be ready for the idiot behind you to have his lights on. Switch the rearview mirror to "night", or pull over and let that car pass, or risk letting that person's boorish behavior ruin your holiday cheer. About halfway through, you'll come to a traffic light and a helpful worker holding back cars because of the one-way bridge. It's mostly one way traffic throughout except at the very beginning. It's a fun thing to do and next time, we might try the wagon rides. It's better to be a passenger than a driver, I think. It's hard to get the full effect when you're occupied with keeping your car on the dirt roads.

Best Christmas lights ever! The wagon ride can't be passed up. Happy holidays to everyone and help…read moresupport our zoo !
