This location is absolutely horrible for the 2nd time in a row. The redhead bartender is always vanishing to the back, always stressed out and although last time she apologized for being "stressed out", today's experience was even worse. Three simple tacos came out 15 minutes later and were incorrect. I was told they can either remake it or add the missing sides on top. How classy. I told them I didn't want to wait another 15 minutes, it's already 10:15pm. And the manager came out (me thinking he'll do something), instead he charged me for my drink after I told him about his bartender from the last two times. He said "I'll talk to her," and I said I don't care. She's apparently still there for one reason or another. When they say quality and service has gone way down, this location takes the cake. Even if it was my last meal, I will be avoiding you at all costs. Your location was absolutely shameless tonight. (7/14/26) read more

I have debated this review since our visit and have re-written it a number of times. I love small business and I want to see small business succeed. I write this only so that others don't have to go through the same experience, and so that the business can improve. Our original dinner plans fell through, so I quickly chose Barrio based on the reviews I had seen and the fun, colorful pictures. It seemed like a safe choice. The service was excellent. We were seated quickly, and our server was 10/10 - so observant, she always made sure that we had everything we needed. This was the kind of service I'd expect from an upscale restaurant. I have zero complaints about the service. Each person in our group opted to try different things on the menu - a burrito bowl off the menu, tacos off the menu, and build-your-own tacos. The burrito bowl seemed like it was the only hit of the night. We started with chips and queso - the queso was incredibly bland and the consistency was thin and so runny - not sure how this could be called queso. Please add some veggies, some spice, literally anything at this point! The tacos were by far the biggest disappointment - both the menu options and the build-your-own. These were by far the worst I've ever eaten. I'm not convinced that whoever made these has ever eaten a taco before. I would like to suggest that in the future you gently heat or steam the corn tortillas before making the tacos so that they do not crack. One of my 3 tacos had 4 (!!) corn tortillas on it. I'm guessing that the tortilla started cracking while the taco was being made, so the solution was to just grab two more corn tortillas. I know this is not an "authentic taco" joint, but these were hardly edible. The steak was cooked well, but there was barely any in there. The tofu was so overcooked it was hard to eat. The pork and chicken were quite bland - please add more seasoning to your food! As it stands, I would not come back here for food, nor would I recommend it, but I probably would stop in for drinks and drinks only. read more

I go specifically for their marinated jalapeños! Though I love anything hot, theirs are worthy of a review on their own. The entire menu is sure to please. Service is always fast and am always greeted with smiling faces. If drinks only is on your agenda; look no further-they craft some incredible cocktails. Super laid back casual atmosphere. read more

This place is a must whenever I visit Cleveland. Everyone that works there is friendly and very accommodating. We were seated quickly and our food came out very promptly. Thai chili tofu tacos and the classic queso are just as good as they were ten years ago!! read more

Always enjoy coming to this Barrio location. I found a spot at the bar during happy hour. Tried one of their specialty cocktails for Valentines Day. It was basically a Paloma with rose water. Tasted fine, although I did ask for some additional grapefruit soda. I got the tuscan guac, which is one of my fave guacamoles around. Love the balsamic and feta in it. I also got their Bourbon Street taco special as a bowl. It was surprisingly really good. It had grits, chicken andouille sausage, shrimp, some type of bbq sauce and their smoked cheddar cheese. the grits were really good, thick and cheesy. The shrimp wasn't seasoned at all but it didn't make much of a difference. I also got the vegano taco which has portobello mushrooms and was pretty tasty. Come for their happy hour deals until 6 pm daily: $5 margs, 1/2 off whiskey and tequila shots, and $1 off tacos. Most days, you really can't go wrong with Barrio. They remain consistently good and the great customer service makes it even better. read more

Great food and drinks.it is a local hot spot and more restaurants increased since first bite. The service was average. It was not really busy. It is hard to get greeted and everything was asked for and requested even a clean spot. The bartender was spacey and couldn't multi task. She would be lost if she didn't have help from another bartender. The second time here the service was the same. I love the food so take out or food truck at this company probably would be best. read more

girl. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU ARE ACTUALLY MEXICAN. don't be fooled by the lovely mural of Frida Kahlo outside of the restaurant, the food is so bad it was comical. my girlfriend and i were legit in awe of the food that we received and payed for. the service was wonderful though! our waitress was very kind and silly and helpful but unfortunately her cheerful demeanor could not save us from the bland NAKED shrimp and legit soup in a tortilla that was made for us. tummy hurt :/ okay bye read more

We had a great first experience at Barrio. We got seated right away on a busy Saturday by a giant tv to watch college basketball...my husband thanks you! We were there as a party of five and ordered several different drinks and the two appetizer of traditional gauc, the queso blanco, and the corn salsa. Our waitress also brought out another salsa for the table. We all ordered several build your own tacos. I wish I would have taken my time on the builds to try more options but they were all super tasty! read more

Did you know there is new tacos on the El Jefe Selecciones (premade) menu? I tried them all and in comparison to the prior premade menu offered for more than 5 years, this update has a lot of things going for it that makes it worth checking out. Below are my ratings for the new menu out of 10. I set the current monthly special (Grilled Cheese Taco), the La Tierra and the Jefe Loco to 8/10. I would suggest these are the 'Barrio's Recognized Baseline' product offerings at this point. CHICKEN BACON RANCH | 6/10 - Nothing special about this one. It just has a bland, ordinary/expected flavor that your teens would love but nothing to run home about. Would choose El Jefe Loco over this taco any day, especially since both contain pork. If I could suggest an upgrade, I would switch the Bombshell (bacon) to a Goddess shell (guacamole) and offer a Chicken Avocado taco instead. FREAKIN' VEGAN I 7.5/10 - I went vegan for a year in college and would have LOVED this taco back then. Really good flavor and ingredient selection, definitely recommend if you're eating a vegan diet or otherwise! CRUNCHY CHIPOTLE CHICKEN | 9/10 -This one was really tasty and would order again and recommend to anyone! The chicken in chipotle enchilada sauce really delivers a tasty texture and that base complements the rest of the ingredients. THE CODFATHER | 8/10 - Really glad to see a fish taco this good offered as a premade option. Very tasty! Arguably, this seafood taco is preferred over the shrimp premade taco now phased out. I also learned the monthly fish offering is now phased out (thanks Tariffs lol) and Barrio is standardizing on Blackened Cod moving forward. SMASHBURGER | 9.5/10 - I am so glad this is now being served year round as this is my favorite monthly special Barrio has ever offered. It really is simple yet unique and very delicious. Don't need to say much more because this is literally a burger folded into a taco shell, but oh is it good! FRENCH DIP | 3/10 - Last and least, unfortunately. Quite disappointed with this taco as it's just a mess. Don't get me wrong, the meat and the horsey sauce is quite tasty, but the general concept to dip a soft flour shell taco into au jus doesn't deliver anything besides disappointment. Maybe adding crispy onions or just making this into a standard taco with lettuce and tomato could save it, but I would not recommend this one. Would suggest to phase this out immediately and replace with the grilled cheese taco being offered this month. Thanks for reading! Give the new menu a try! read more

Last night, a few friends and I went out to celebrate a friend's birthday. After being seated, we received our first impression of our waitress, Avielle. She seemed very cold, irritated, and bothered by the fact that she had to serve our table. After she left to gather our drinks, we were all puzzled but figured maybe we were reading the interaction wrong. However, the behavior continued throughout the entire time she was serving us. Each of us ordered food at different times. By the time the fourth person received her food -- and hadn't even taken her first bite -- Avielle asked if she could close us out. At that point, we were waiting for a fifth person to arrive. We initially thought she might be closing out for the evening, but Avielle continued to serve new tables, which made her request seem odd. Once she brought us the bill, we handed her a gift card with $25 on it and a $100 bill. She returned and loudly stated twice that there was $9 left over, as if the expectation was that this amount would be her tip. We said okay, and she walked away very aggressively. Again, we were puzzled by the behavior. We eventually finished our food and drinks, celebrated our friend with cake, and sat chatting for a while. The waitress came back saying she was going to clean up the table a bit but only removed two glasses. She did not once offer more water or ask if we needed anything after the bill was closed. When our fifth person arrived, we had to ask other staff members for assistance. Avielle finally came back to take the fifth person's order and had a completely different demeanor -- much more pleasant. Overall, the experience was very odd and uncomfortable. Personally, I don't believe the service deserved a 20% tip, but she still received one. read more

Barrio has good tacos that I would not call authentic, but were fun and tasted great. I know that they regularly get mentioned as a Best Of restaurant. The food and ambience are great, but if you're looking for authentic, you might be happier elsewhere. That being said, the food was fresh and pretty speedy, even on a busy Saturday. It's fun to build your own taco - I always lean towards fewer ingredients so it isn't overwhelming, but go to town. The chicken and shrimp were both really good, and I like the Green Goddess shell combo, that has a soft taco around a hard shell with guacamole in between. My margarita was fantastic - went down really easy, so user beware! It was not cloyingly sweet, so the mix was really great. The art work is fun, and our server was so nice. Since it was our first visit, she really took her time to go through the entire menu, how to create and order your taco, and the monthly specials. We felt bad that we missed a few of the highlights since it was pretty loud, but she really did a great job explaining. I walk past often with my dog, and when the weather is nice, they have the front garage doors rolled up and Happy Hour looks awesome. When the weather warms up a bit more, I'll walk past without Miss Pup to enjoy the patio or indoor/outdoor space. read more

Always delicious, staff is always super kid and hospitable you can truly tell they enjoy what they do and make the environment thrive. Love that the food is consistent and not super expensive and the rewards program is great. Only reason I didn't give it a 5 start is that the margaritas are sub par they very much seem like they are made from premade mix. But will have to try a skinny margarita next time might have better luck read more

Horrible! Their red salsa was loaded with vinegar, almost zero ciliantro or garlic and onion but loaded with salt. It's like they take canned tomatoes, puree them, add vinegar as a preservative and minimal spices if at all. It was literally the worse salsa I have ever had. The tacos were cold and loaded again with salt. I looked into the kitchen to see what was going on. Chips on the floor everywhere....and a tray of the red salsa just sitting there under a shelf. not being kept cold or freshly made. I'm 58 and and not that picky and have out alot in my life, this was literally one of the worst meals I have ever had. Barrio never again! learn how to make salsa for yourself, you will then know how bad that place is! Treemont location read more

Love going to barrio but this was my first time at the Lakewood location. I liked the layout of the bar with outdoor seating as a plus. The queso is tasty and when you try their salsa your tastebuds will sing! We sat down at the bar and had two guys take care of us very well! Food came out quickly for both apps and entrees. We did BYO tacos but they had some brunch and Jefe selections available which are premade tacos so you don't have to try and design them! I definitely recommend getting the barrio slaw or pineapple salsa as a topper! I personally love their chicken and chorizo! Don't forget a sauce!! read more

The food is awful!! (In my opinion) I'm from southern California and grew up eating really good authentic Mexican food. This place sucks!! The food was so bad that I dumped in the trash! Honestly, a hit or miss. Sometimes I get fast service with fresh food super quick. Other times I get ignored, one basket of chips and no water refill. I wish I was kidding when I say that one time we only saw our waiter when bringing us drinks, he never came to check on us or refill our drinks. Expect slow service when you are here and in the case that you get a good server you'll be surprised. It's been a few years since my first review of Barrio, and I can say that the 5 stars has held strong every time I visit! The stoner style tacos are delicious, so much so that I crave them when I haven't had them for a while :) I recently tried the Elote Queso, and it was simply delicious! You seriously can't go wrong with anything on the menu at Barrio. As props for the focus on safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. Terrible service and meh food. We got the wrong order. Drinks are watered down. Not a great experience.

They bring chips and salsa. The salsa is amazing!! So good - lots of flavor, perfect spice. Best salsa with chips I've ever had!! So fun to make your own tacos! Love all the choices. But don't think these are tiny tacos because they aren't. They are a good size. The stoner queso is amazing too!!! Great server and good food! read more

Arrived about 5:45 on a Monday afternoon. The restaurant was loud, and front patio was full. The Barrios are popular for their tacos, bowls and drinks, and it's reasonably priced. We even saw the food truck. It could have been going to Lakewood's Food Truck Park. We headed to the back covered patio and it was open and super nice. The area was large and colorful. Our server, Andrea, was friendly, knew the menu, and told us how to order off the pads of paper. This was our first time here!! Chips and salsa arrived, and tasted great. The food came out after a short wait. All was tasty. I had the Al Pastor Bowl with pulled pork, cauliflower rice, beans, cilantro and pineapple salsa. I asked for the habanero sauce on the side, and it was spicy. I was the driver so I ordered a virgin mango margarita, and it was yum. The others liked their drinks, too. Recently tried their new brunch menu. Lots of good options. We especially liked the tots covered in cheese. Their drinks are always good but the mimosas are my fave. Some of the margs are a bit too sugary for me. I love how fast Barrio always is. The staff is always friends. The decor is the Day of the Dead. Perfect for happy hour or any time. I'll start this off by saying that I'm a sucker for tacos... but this is a place that lives up to the hype. There's a reason that there's a 45 minute wait on a Wednesday and people are still putting their names in. You build your own tacos which start at $3. Fill out the form at your table and that's what goes to the kitchen. You can choose from a corn/crunchy or flour/ soft shell or i you want to add a special tortilla (I recommend stoner) it's an up charge of $1. Most of the protein is included, but you can also upgrade to Coca Cola marinated steak with an up charge of $1. The quality of ingredients you get for $3-5 can't be beat. They seat you with chips and standard salsa. Guacamole, queso, and specialty salsa is extra. Parking is a bit tricky in the area. There are meters, but based on the amount of people frequenting, you may need to walk a block or two. They have a good selection of margaritas and offer happy hour specials through the week. I have not been there yet for a weekend brunch, but it's on my list of places to try. read more

Don't waste your time. Barrio used to be my family and my favorite restaurant, but over the years, it's really gone downhill. I've had countless bad experiences here as of late. I've given it so many chances to redeem itself, but it's been bad every time. Live cockroach, horrible service, messed up orders, terrible tasting food, it's just pretty bad now. One time we ordered the taco kit and they literally didn't give us taco shells .... One time they gave me tacos that literally tasted like goose poop, I'm not even exaggerating. The stories are endless. And it has been at several locations! Not even just one; they've all been bad. I used to love it because the meals were super customizable, tasted fresh, had great queso and margs. But I just don't think I can give it any more chances ... read more

Best. Tacos. Hands. Down!! Oh man, I dream about this place... their tacos and margaritas are so delicious... Their chips and queso beat out everyone else. Along with making your own creation it's definitely worth it to pick out some of their specialty ones they already came up with. And as far and cleaning and covid goes... they are on it. You know when you get all your friends to agree to go out at the same time? This is where you go. Hang out with the gang, have some stiff drinks, make lots of noise .. And what's better than made to order tacos on the late night tip? NOTHIN' that's what. They've got something for everyone. Nachos, queso and guacamole, keto friendly options, everything. They've got your covered. I highly recommend the shrimp and the chicken (I no longer eat beef). The crack sauce is everything you'd expect it to be. I love that you can build bowls and tacos to your liking and the portions are just right. I always end up taking a taco or two home though. I tend to come here after an hour or two spent at 1 Up. They're open late and there's plenty of street parking. I do have a favorite drink here I believe it's called a Dark & Stormy (like a lemonade and blueberry situation), it packs quite the punch I don't suggest enjoying more than two or you'll be back the very next day ordering hangover cure tacos. read more

Seriously--the best taco of my life. ...and I eat a lot of tacos! a lot! Before visiting Cleveland, Barrio was suggested to me by a couple of people so naturally, I checked them out on Yelp. After reading their reviews and realizing that it was located less than a mile from where I was staying, it was a no-brainer to stop by. My husband and I arrived on a Saturday night prime time around 7:30 and were quoted a 45 minute wait but immediately found bar seats so ate there instead. This place was packed and bustling with high energy and happy people. I absolutely love how this place is decorated! There are gorgeous Día De Muertos murals painted on the walls and a colorful bar area with stained glass. I ordered an El Jefe Loco specialty taco with a 'stoner shell,' spicy chicken, cheese, pico de gallo corn and BBQ. This was tasty but the show stopper aka THE BEST TACO OF MY LIFE was a build-your-own taco. I had a green Goddess taco shell (soft shell taco sandwiched to a hard corn shell with queso and guac *drool*), fish of the day, napa slaw, carmelized onions and peppers, salsa verde and cilantro-lime aoili. My eyes literally rolled back in my head as I enjoyed this taco. I'm already addicted to tacos but if I lived in Cleveland, this place would be dangerous. So, So, So, Sooooooo amazing! read more
