When I need anything tailored I always take it here, and I drive in from the city. I had my wedding dress and rehearsal dinner dress done here recently and it was such an amazing experience. They were timely and did an amazing job. I couldn't have asked for better work on my dresses! I also have gotten other items done here that are expensive and I trust them fully with everything. Expensive skirt alteration. $45to make boxy skirt into pencil skirt. My dry cleaner charges $25. Thought I'd see if professional tailor would be worth it. First attempt was uneven n had a bulge. They revised but now looks Wonky. Can't adjust any further as no fabric left for changes. Owner said sometimes the skirts are on in a bias. This was a basic crepe poly skirt, no bias. I have them altered often, in its an easy alteration. Poor execution of an easy job. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!!! AWFUL DISHONEST PLACE!!!!!I rarely leave reviews, but this place is so dishonest and horrible I had to. I took my wedding dress and veil there to be altered. Not only did they not do the alterations like they said, but when I picked my dress up it was all nicely packaged up. I thought great it will stay perfectly clean for the wedding day. When I got it home and unpackaged it like I was directed there was a stain on the front of the skirt part. It looked like dried blood. Then there was dark black dirt on top of the train. It look like it had been sucked up in a vacuum cleaner. I immediately called them, had to leave a message. No one called me back until the following day about 5 minutes before they closed saying "I got a call from this number please call us back." We'll I left a very detailed message, they knew why I had called. When I finally got a hold of them they told me I caused the stains and it was fine when they looked at it. That I must have done something. I said so you did nothing and I am lying? They said yes. Unbelievable. All I did was drive it home in the plastic covering. I never had a chance to look over my dress the day I picked it up, funny all the other fittings the dress was perfectly clean. They rushed me out so fast and when I asked if I could try it on they said no they have another appointment. Next, the last fitting they were suppose to trim the peti coat so I wouldn't trip on it, and take in The bust area. Neither were done, yet again I didn't even get a chance to try it on to check. I was rushed out with no chance to try it on. I tripped on my dress all night ripping it, and was worried about my chest hanging out all night. I had to keep my flowers places just right so people wouldn't see the blood stain. It was awful. Not the things I should have been worrying about. Lastly, I was quoted one price and the final price was 3 times higher. Funny they never give invoices and only accept cash. I could think maybe I was a mistake, except I sent 3 other people there for alterations for their bridesmaids dresses and the same things happened to them minus the stains. Just an awful place. DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE LIED TO AND CHARGED TRIPLE WAHT IS QUOTED. read more

This was one of the most unpleasant experiences I have had, locally. I needed simple shortening of pants and the shoulders adjusted on a top. Is am of average size and weight. Called in advance to be certain they had the time to do it and they assured me they would. I made all three appointments early or exactly on time. Each time, the small fitting room was filled with other customers and their family members. There is no privacy. The tailor/ owner??? was brusque and insulting. Constantly complaining about how overworked she was and mumbling under her breath about my lopsided body. When I gently pointed out that that one pant leg was an inch longer than the other, after the first alteration, she demanded to know " what I had done". Told her I didn't think I grew my leg an inch in 2 days. I had to roll up one side of the pants to make them even for my event and the designer top was not wearable after she butchered it. She charged$130 for this train wreck. I wish I had just taken them to my wonderful dry cleaner, Bazos. It would have been done perfectly and for a fifth of the price! I took my daughter's flower girl dress here to be let out to fit for her first communion. They were very professional and did a fabulous job! It made me wish I would have gone here for my maid of honor dress. They set two different appointments one to measure where it needed to be let out to, and a final fitting to ensure it was the exact right fit. They steamed it and had it bagged up for us within the timeframe needed. Cannot say enough good things about this place! Sorry to see others didn't have that same experience. I brought in a bridesmaid dress to be taken in/hemmed. I was told it would be ready to following Wednesday. I returned to the shop Wednesday at 12:45pm. They were unable to find my dress, then realized it was currently cut up being worked on. I was told to kill time for 30 mins and come back. I was unable to do this as I work/have children to care for. I told them to call me when it was done. I got a call an hour later that I needed to come in in the next 5 minutes to try the dress on so they'd be able to finish working on it. Well, I can't drop everything I'm doing so I made it back in about an hour later. I tried on the dress and the hem was too short. They responded with "wear shorter shoes" no, these are the shoes I brought in for the initial fitting so the dress should reflect that length. They then responded with " it's velvet so it's stretchy just tug it down" they then began tugging the dress down at the waist which did not fix the issue. They finally agreed to release the hem. I was told to come back at 4pm to pick up my dress. I was unable to make it back for a third time that day at 4 due to prior commitments. I returned to the shop the next day. The employee stated people make mistakes and I should understand that. Yes, I do understand people make mistakes, but communication and customer service need to be present. Her response was that noone else has ever had a complaint about their service...she continued to make excuse after excuse in regards to her errors. She told me the dress wasn't ready because their policy is pickup after 1pm... Well, I was never told this either and it obviously would not have been done 15 minutes later (since I came in at 12:45) I was told I could pay with cash or check when I picked up my dress. This was being told to me for the first time (they do not accept CC) When I was about to leave with my dress the employee told me to put my newborn baby in the car and come back in so I'd be able to hold the dress. No, I will not leave my 6 week old baby in a hot car on main street. When I tried on the dress at home it did fit nicely, but I will not be returning due to the EXTREMELY poor customer service. read more

We were recommended by Simply Luxe in Algonquin, and we were so happy. I was so happy with my dress that I recommended her to my family and friends. My Matron of Honor, my mom and my Maid of Honor all brought their dresses in and they turned out beautifully. Jollee was an absolute pleasure! She was so friendly, so honest, and so helpful. I have used Barrington Tailor Shop for alterations several times and have been very happy with the work done. Most recently, my daughter bought her wedding dress from a shop out of state and had the alterations done there. When she got home and tried it on for me, it did not fit and the work was shoddy. I called Barrington Tailor Shop and took the dress there to be re-altered. They did an amazing job correcting the previous work. I was nervous that there would not be anything they could do, but they were able to fit it to my daughter perfectly. And the work was impeccable. As a side note from the work, Jolly and her staff were easy to work with, they were kind and understanding and put everyone's mind at ease. I took my wedding dress here, and would not recommend anyone else do the same. The girl at the front desk rudely asked if "THIS is a wedding dress?". I'm getting married on a beach and am not wearing a ballgown... Then, the woman performing the alterations cut my dress off at the bottom before asking me how long I wanted it, causing it to be too short. The solution they gave me was to let them steam it so the fabric would loosen up and fall differently. When I expressed my dissatisfaction there was no offer to give a discount or anything, so I ended up wasting close to $200 on poorly executed alterations and terrible customer service. read more

Barrington Tailors basically saved my wedding day! 3 days before my wedding, I realized that the tailor who had done the alterations on the bodice and the straps did not put in a bustle or hem the bottom of the dress. I took the dress in on Wednesday afternoon; Jolly and her team were able to finish the dress by Friday morning. They were very kind and accommodating, and I am forever grateful to them for helping me look and feel my best in my wedding dress. Highly recommend them to every bride! read more

I have had my alterations done here for well over 15 years. I am 5'1" weight approx 112 so I do need almost all my clothes altered in some way. While I am retired now, I had a very high profile job in a demanding profession so I had to look my best and with clothing it is all about fit. Jollee is an outstanding tailor and very meticulous. I have had suits, gowns, blouses, sweaters, pants, jackets, coats-you name it-altered over the years and I can't recall a single issue. Anytime I felt it needed anything more it was taken care of to my satisfaction. The clothes are always ready on time and the staff is more than accommodating. I highly recommend this shop. read more

I suggest that you find somewhere else to take your business. I spent almost $500 to have a number of men's clothing altered including two new suits. The third trip to pick up my re-do found the items not even started on the agreed to date of pick up. Upon retrieving the garments on the 4th trip, the leg on one suit pant was still not the correct length. I will be taking the final re-do to the local cleaner to get the hem completed. In reference to their web page, I did not find any European tailors during my multiple visits, let alone four. This is a misrepresentation of their service. I decided to come to this tailor shop for convenience as I live in the area. This is the first time that I have ever been to this shop and it will for sure be the last. I had to get a bridesmaid dress altered and had a very good experience with the measurements and fitting. I left the dress and was told the owner would call me with a price later. She called me a few hours later and gave me a price for over $150. I decided to pick up the dress and go somewhere else, only to realize that when I went directly after picking up the dress to another tailor that there was OIL on the silk part of the dress on the bottom!!! The oil DID NOT come out and there was not enough time for me to order a new one. Therefore, my bridesmaid dress will have an oil stain from something one of the staff ate at Barrington Tailor Shop. I had my wedding dress alterations done here and the result was wonderful! Jolie and her team are very pleasant. I needed the neck line let out which was a difficult task due to very detailed beading but Jolie came up with a great solution and blended new beading into it that you cannot tell it was even altered. It looks and fits perfect. High quality work. She was very accommodating for scheduling my dress fittings around my busy work schedule and had it completed on time. I do not recommend this company. I was quoted one price on the phone but ended up paying more than double. Coat was not ready when promised. I found the staff to be abrupt and more interested in how much money they could get rather than offering quality service. There are no European tailors at this facility! Very misleading. read more

If I could give this no stars I would. I made an appointment to get my dress altered for 6 pm on Tuesday April 26th. My mom and I showed up 30 minutes early. We knocked on the door around 5:45, and no one was there. We went back to the car since it was cold and waited until 6 to try again, but there was still no one there. My mom and I live in Elgin so we drove all the way there for nothing. Not recommended at all. read more

These people are absolutely wonderful. They picked up their phone after hours (around 6pm) to a frantic me needing a next-day hem- my father in law had passed away and my husband's suit pants were way too long- we had the wake the next day. When most people would have told me "sorry, we're closed" (and did! I called around to several places before finding these guys), the girl on the other end was so nice and told me she would call the seamstress right away and get back to me. She called back minutes later and told me to come on in. I thanked her and told her I would pay "whatever" for the last minute order. The next day I went to pick up the pants and the bill had no rush charge on it- the woman who rang me up (likely the owner) said "I don't charge for that kind of situation". How kind of her. I will be using this place from here on out, so glad to have found them. And, they did great work! read more

I've been using Barrington Tailor Shop for years, they've altered all types of clothing for me from casual to formal, plus a number of formal dresses for my daughter when she was in high school. Sometimes the required alterations have been extreme. I'm 5' and 105 lbs, and occasionally buy clothing that's too large and have it altered to size, and I also did this a few times when my daughter needed a formal dress. I've been very happy with the quality of their work and wouldn't hesitate to take any type of clothing to them for alterations. A couple of weeks ago my now college-age daughter needed a suit jacket and pants altered. Shoulders on the jacket were a little too wide, sleeve length slightly too long, waist on pants way too big. As a result of the alterations everything now fits perfectly, the neatness and quality of the work was excellent as usual. It was ready when promised. I've never had an issue with anything not being ready when they said it would be, including a few things over the years I've needed in a rush. My go-to tailor. Love them. read more
