Even though I didn't end up buying my dress here, The Altar Bridal gave me one of the most memorable and special parts of my wedding journey. From the moment I walked in, I felt seen, heard, and celebrated. The consultants were so kind and genuinely cared about helping me feel beautiful. Jennessa took the time to understand what I was dreaming of, encouraged me to try things I hadn't thought of, and cheered me on the whole way through. I left feeling more confident, excited, and glowing--not just because of the dresses, but because of the experience she created for me. It was never about a sale, it was about making me feel like a bride. That meant so much. Even though my perfect dress ended up being somewhere else, I will always remember how special this place made me feel. I would recommend them to any bride who wants to be treated with warmth, patience, and genuine joy. read more

My mom, sister, and I had the best time dress shopping at The Altar Bridal in Barrington! We're both getting married in 2026 and decided to try on dresses together -- and we couldn't have picked a better place to start the journey. The selection was incredible! My sister is planning a tropical destination wedding and loves sleek, simple, modern styles, while I'm having a winery wedding with a boho-chic, whimsical vibe -- and we both found multiple dresses that fit our very different visions. That alone speaks volumes! But what truly made this experience special was our stylist, Amanda. She is an absolute gem -- kind, personable, and genuinely supportive. I walked in with only a vague idea of what I wanted, and Amanda worked her magic. She listened, asked thoughtful questions, and pulled dresses in different fabrics and silhouettes based on my feedback. She clearly knows the inventory inside and out. I also really appreciated how respectful she was of my budget. One dress I chose was way over, and while she didn't pressure me at all to try it on... let's just say I did cave, and now I'm trying to figure out how to make it work because I loved it that much. Even though I'm not ready to commit just yet (I want to explore all my options), I'm almost positive I'll be back for one of the dresses Amanda helped me find -- and when I do, I will make sure she's there, because she absolutely deserves the commission. If you're looking for a warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable team to help you find the one, go to The Altar Bridal in Barrington and ask for Amanda. I couldn't recommend them more! read more

We read the reviews before going and were fairly confident based on the good reviews but still a bit hesitant because you never know. It was a wonderful experience. Making an appointment was easy, they sent plenty of reminders, communicated with me via text and email ahead of time. They had my name outside welcoming me when we arrived it's beautiful inside and out. We got to pick the dresses to try on rather than needing a stylist to make selections which was great. We worked with Katie, I truly can't say enough positive things about her. She was SO wonderful she felt just like a friend I brought along with me, but she also was a pro at her job. She listened to me, she saw what I liked, she gave perfect recommendations. I did find my dress here, we had the mimosa "party" and after my appointment they let us sit and chat to finish our snacks and champagne. If you're on the fence, don't be!! Make the appointment. Even if you don't find your dress (I can't imagine how you wouldn't because there are so many options) it will still be a great experience. And if you get Katie, you hit the jackpot!! read more

The staff was welcoming. This space allows a large group which is very appreciative for a larger family. Very affordable dresses!! Sample sale dresses, so they don't order a size that fits your body. If you find a dress (fits or not) will be your dress. Even though I didn't find my dress here, the overall atmosphere was fun! read more

Great service. Awesome salesperson. I had a wonderful experience and I purchased a lovely dress at an awesome price.

I would not recommend this place for that warm, inviting bridal experience. I ended up getting my dress here due to budget and time constraints but didn't not experience the great service I saw in the reviews. My guests I brought with me commented that the consultant Yesi never spoke to them and the whole experience felt rushed and cold. Then when I was leaving, she said I couldn't take a photo with the "I said yes to the dress sign" because I wanted to take the evening to think about the decision. Even if I didn't end up buying here, wouldn't you just my let me have that moment if that's what made me happy and left me with a positive experience? Apparently not. If you are looking for an amazing experience but need an off-the-rack dress, I'd recommend going to Couture Bridal Outlet instead. You are treated just as nicely there as the pricier bridal shops I visited in the area. read more

My daughter just got her dress from The Altar Bridal in Barrington Illinois and it was absolutely the best experience . Keri was super helping picking out dresses and giving advice. Everyone who came to support my daughter had the best time. Kettie was super nice when we came back for the final decision . They have a great selection of dresses. My daughter said Yes to the most gorgeous dress! read more

Quite literally the worst experience I have ever had with any dress shopping, especially bridal shopping. It started a few minutes late which was not an issue, but she got my name wrong right away when it was written at the top of her sheet. She did not assist me in picking out gowns, as many other consultants were doing. She said she would be available to help me zip or clip dresses once I was changed into them, and every single time was across the store and my mom had to help me into each dress. When she was around and i would ask about the fabric or any questions related to the dress she was so unknowledgeable and didn't even attempt to get information regarding the dress, other than calling out the price each time I was getting in a dress. At 20 minutes into my appointment, she told me I had 30 mins and i needed to start re-trying on dresses, when i still had 3-4 dresses to try on, but then later told me she didn't know how much time i had left, and when i finally got changed into my clothes said i had 45 minutes left in my appointment at which point i chose to leave. I could not believe how terrible this experience was, and due to my situation would not recommend this boutique to anyone that I know. I hope others don't have the same experience that I had, because the other consultants seemed wonderful and helpful! read more

After a not so great experience from a different bridal shop, i was a little hesitant to go to another one. At The Altar Bridal, i was welcomed by amazing ladies and was assisted right away. Alexandra was amazing! She was playful and most importantly made sure to understand what dress i was looking for. I honestly didn't think i'd find "the one", but with the help of Alexandra I finally said yes to the dress! Overall, i'm very satisfied with The Altar Bridal and would highly recommend to go check them out. read more

Emily, my associate, was awesome! so sweet and made the experience smooth and easy. I left a low star rating because after google image searching the dress I purchased, I realized I'd been scammed. The Altar charged me $800 for a gown that new retails for $290. Imagine my shock! Double check the labels on the gowns and make sure the price they've listed is fair- the gowns are FINAL SALE. This was a HUGE disappointment and leaves a horrible taste in my mouth. i won't be wearing it for my wedding. read more

The concept is great. Save a ton of money on a sample dress that you normally couldnt afford. I had a day off work and scheduled an appointment for a Friday at 330pm. This place accepts walk ins so its best to go when not that busy. I worked with Karly and she was very nice and asked a lot of questions and helped get me in and out of dresses. All in all, I tried on about 15. Unfortunately, they did not have the style dress that I wanted. Things to remember- these ARE sample dresses. Some of the dresses showed wear and some even had makeup on them. You get what you pay for. read more

At first I was kind of scared because they had me waiting for about 20 minutes even though they had me make an appointment, but I completely forgot about that because they rest of the experience was worth waiting for. Tatiana was amazing to work with. She understood my vision and was very patient with me and my mom. I tried about 10 dresses and found the one here!!! I was dreading the dress shopping, but boy was I surprised! Tatiana and the entire staff at the location in Barrington were so sweet and made me feel really special. I definitely recommend The Altar Bridal for all soon to be brides in Chicago.THANKS AGAIN TATIANA AND COMPANY!!!! read more

Morgan was so helpful! I went in unsure of what type of dress I wanted, and Morgan helped guide me through deciding on a dress that made me feel "bridal" on my wedding day. Some reviews here talk about how the staff did not help select and put on dresses and did not speak with guests. That was not my experience with Morgan. She was patient and polite and conversed with me and my mom the entire time. She also helped me put on each dress and recommended different ways to wear the dress. They kept me within my budget, and I cannot wait to wear my dress on my wedding day! read more

The store manger Monique called me the following day after writing this review to follow up with me and to offer a personal appointment with me. I called back to thank her for following up and for her time, but I had purchased my gown elsewhere. She also said she followed up with the stylist that i worked with, i'm hoping it only gets better from there! Follow up is important and I appreciated that she took the time out to let me know! read more

This place is relatively new because they changed their name but don't let the lack of reviews deter you. This place has a ton of beautiful dresses!! I like every single one I tried on. They let you touch and feel and pull the dresses yourself. They help you into and out of dresses and clip them to fit you nicely. All dresses are also discounted which is a huge plus. Definitely consider making an appointment here if you're wedding dress shopping! They carry all styles. I ultimately bought "the one" here! Ava was our consultant and she was so great. read more

Glad to say I said yes to the dress here. I loved the fact that I was able to roam through the dresses and select which ones I wanted to try on. They have a healthy selection of different styles, shades, and designs. I had a fairly narrow idea of what I was looking for, and thankfully found it. Everyone here was very nice and helpful. Good deals on designer dresses as they were sample dresses prior. Definitely will recommend this place to any bride looking for the right gown. read more

My daughter, maid of honor, my other daughter, and I went to the Altar Bridal as our first bridal gown shopping experience. I wanted the bride to have three types of wedding dress shopping experiences: the kind you see in movies, where a small, private party is there to try dresses on, etc.; a "regular" shop; and a discount outlet. (I didn't want her to miss out on a fun experience, but I also didn't want her to overpay.) We were pleasantly surprised to find all three in the Altar. The bride and I had not discussed budgets, styles, or much about the dress beforehand. I let her take the lead and followed her instincts. She had been researching dresses and had a Pinterest board--beyond that, neither of us knew what she wanted. Jacquie had her work cut out for her! She asked questions, took notes, helped my daughter properly. put the gowns on and fluffed them out (so we could see how they would look on the big day). She gave is excellent service, despite us saying we didn't know if we would buy a dress there that day.We felt respected, comfortable, and we'll taken care of. Jacquie asked a lot of questions, bringing out different dresses as she heard all of our comments (not just the bride's) and saw the bride's reactions to what she was wearing. In the end, she brought out a dress we hadn't considered; her expert knowledge thought it might be a good fit with some of the choices the bride made after trying on two dozen dresses. She was right. The bride loved it, but was hesitant to get it because we hadn't discussed the budget. The price, however, was reasonable. When it's the right dress, you know it; Jacquie knew it, the bride knew it, and I knew it. We bought it that day. I highly recommend the Altar Bridal. They have plenty of dresses in many sizes. Their dressing area is comfortable. Their staff is knowledgeable and welcoming. (Thanks, Jacquie!) Making appointments online is a breeze. Their prices are competitive and the experience is wonderful. read more

I made an appointment here on a whim because I just told my family I was engaged and I wanted to try on some different styles and see what I looked best in. Emily greeted us when we walked in and it was just a great experience. I told her a little bit about what I was looking for and what my wedding was like and she immediately pulled a handful of dresses that were beautiful. She was helpful, encouraging and energetic throughout and I ended up buying the first dress I tried on!! It was perfect for me and I was so excited to find exactly what I was looking for. Plus, it was a great price point. Highly recommend this shop! read more

I came into the shop in the afternoon after scheduling an appointment online. Very easy online scheduling and great confirmation systems. This was kind of far away for me so I made a whole day of it and was very excited. The stylist sent us on our way to pick through each gown ourselves. I didn't mind, but it was very hard to pick just off the rack without seeing it on a model or mannequin at least. So if you are a visual person, it might be difficult to pick. The dresses to pick through were alright. The prices were great for budgets but some of the dresses were outdated and/or stained with makeup and sweat. The stylist was very kind and helpful at first and I could see that she cared about the one I picked. However it didn't last long and the appointment kind of went downhill quickly. I'm having one ceremony and two receptions. I was honest from the beginning that I already have a ceremony dress that I love, but I need a different one for one of the receptions as it will be in a different season and state from the ceremony and that dress will flat out just not work. As soon as I said that, the stylist's attitude changed from friendly to annoyed and bothered. She continued to be short with me while I picked through the dresses on the rack. If I didn't like a gown she pulled out, it was almost as if she was offended. Once I had picked a few I was told to put the gown on myself and she would come in the changing room to help zip and button it up. That was a much different experience than other shops where the stylist would come into the room with me and open the dress up and help me to put it on correctly. The other stylist there was doing that for her client, so I guess it depends on who you get for your appointment if you receive help or not. I did end up finding one dress that I liked, but couldn't justify spending the money because although it was pretty, there was something off. The main thing that bothered me throughout this appointment was being infantilized by the stylist. I felt condescended towards and did not feel as though I was being taken seriously by her. I think she assumed I was much younger than I actually am and treated me as such. I was treated as though I were just a kid playing dress-up rather than a bride. Instead of referring to me by name, there were a lot of "honey"s and "sweetie"s thrown around that it felt like she just forgot who i was or didn't care enough to recognize me as a grown woman getting married. By the end of the appointment I felt humiliated and extremely self-conscious. This is a fine place for budget dresses, but after my experience, that's all it is. read more

Be aware that you must sign an agreement that ALL SALES ARE FINAL at this store. If you are disappointed with your dress, they will not take it back. I was convinced to buy a dress three sizes too big for me because the alterations would make it fit perfectly - but they were not transparent about how much these alterations might cost. After purchasing the dress and taking it to 3 different seamstresses, I was quoted $800 to $1200 in alterations, and one seamstress even advised me to return the dress altogether (which I was not able to). What sucks is that this store seems appealing to brides looking to save money on their dress, but it ends up costing them the same, if not MORE money than just buying a new dress that fits right. I wasted my money here. read more

There were a lot of styles, but you had to dig through the racks yourself. I stood at the counter for a while as two employees chatted without considering me standing there. They had nice dresses, but also so very cheaply made things I could probably order online. I was hoping for it to be more of an "outlet" shop with more reasonable pricing. But the experience did help me realize I had found my dress already at a different shop. read more

I had an amazing experience at The Altar Bridal. I had a good feeling based on the reviews. I was looking for a place that had sample dresses because my timeline did not allow to order a dress. I was able to make an appointment through the website which was great and easy. I brought my mom, sister, and friend. The shop itself is the perfect size. There was only one other party there. I was able to go through their entire selection and pick dresses. I was really impressed with the price point as well as the selection. There is a separate fitting room where I was able to try on the dress and then come out to show my group in front of a large mirror. I was also able to go back to the dress selection after I tried on 6-7 and figured out what I liked to see if I could find exactly what I was looking for. I didn't think I was one of those brides who would know when I found the dress but I put my dress on and couldn't stop smiling! I would highly recommend The Altar Bridal. read more

This was my first ever appointment on my wedding dress hunt. My crew and I were instantly welcomed by all of the lovely ladies at the front desk. We were greeted by Sierra and she ran our appointment for the day. When I say she was incredible, I mean it. She was incredibly attentive and payed attention to every detail. She did not skip a beat! She catered to every single need and want on my list. She made me feel like the most important bride in the world. She gave me the appointment of my dreams, and my family could not stop raving about it. They said it was the best dress appointment any of them ever took part in. With plenty of tears and laughter, I found the dress of my dreams. And I definitely could not have done it without Sierra. Please, please, please: ADD THE ALTAR BRIDAL TO YOUR APPOINTMENT LIST. I don't know anything about designer dresses so from the previous reviews I guess that was great. Honestly I contacted the shop prior to coming and asked them if I could find a dress less than one thousand. They said yes so I made the appointment. I found there were not a lot of options at all for a dress in my price range. I found it overwhelming to dig through the dresses and did not find a lot of options. To me the dresses were kinda outdated and ugly. I did find 2 I liked and tried them on, as I was in one of the dresses asking questions I noticed it smelled awful. Like a overwhelming odor of body odor, Aldo the zipper on the dress was broken. I asked her if this was the only size the dress came in only to find out what you are trying on is what your actually buying. First of all, That was never explained to me, secondly nope I'm not sure if you can dry clean body funk out of a wedding dress. I couldn't get out of that dress fast enough. It was pretty gross read more

I cannot say enough good things about my experience here on Thursday! I went in just to start my journey searching for a dress. I had no intention of leaving with a dress. My wedding is not until the end of 2022 so this really was just the beginning. I had an appointment set up and brought along my mom, grandma, and future mother in law. We were greeted by Emily who greeted me with so much enthusiasm and excitement that it got me really excited. She took us back to a very large private area and let us start looking around. We got about 6 or 7 dresses to try and she let me pick which one would go first(little did I know it would be the dress I picked) and from there she helped so much figuring out what style worked best for my body as a plus size girl. Finally we finished trying on dresses and I was just in love with the first dress still then Maureen come in and really helped seal the deal on me falling in love with it by helping find the perfect earrings and a tiara. By the time we were done I had cried. My mom cried. My grandma cried. My mother in law cried. And Emily was crying. It was literally the best experience I could have had! read more

This was my first and last stop for finding my wedding dress! I did not know what to expect for the process, but they have so many different styles and types of dresses you get a wide range of options. Monique couldn't have been better to work with! She explained every dress in detail so that you started to know certain styles / terms you liked. This place is unique in that you take home the dress you like -- have alterations done later. Some people may not love that, but I think it gives you a ton of options at a very reasonable price point and it was honestly fun to leave WITH my dress. I went here during a sale, so I wasn't expecting to have the most attention going into it. However, I was one of the first ones there so I did have someone helping me. I was being very picky, which I don't think is uncommon for wedding dress shopping, and I did want to be open minded. However, there are certain things that we definite no's for me and the sales lady kept pushing things on me I said I didn't like and was getting frustrated when I said I didn't like something. I also felt like she had no idea what she was doing or saying. She clipped me in very loose to the dresses so other associates kept having to step in. Overall I just didn't feel comfortable or like I was being listened to. read more

A-MA-ZING!!! My cousin was looking for a wedding dress for her 20 year vow renewal and the large chain stores just weren't giving her what she truly wanted. We started digging and came across The Altar Bridal. We decided to take a chance and I am so glad we did. This place gave us the fresh breath we needed in looking for her dress. We were immediately greeted when we came through the door by our bridal consultant Yessi (I hope I spelled that right). She was so friendly and warm, it was great. From the moment we stepped in, we were treated like royalty. The level of professionalism and courteousness is off the chain. She took us to our styling area which was a nice large space for the four of us. The bride's room was very large and had enough space for her to hold the 12 gowns she ended up trying on. Unlike some of the other stores where I had to step in and help her try on the dresses, clip them, etc., Yessi was all over it. Not only did she pull dresses (and have us help her pull) she took control of helping her to get them on, clip them in the right places and help her out onto the platform. Even more than that, her knowledge was top notch. She made suggestions, gave us new visuals, knew about the designers and more! So much so, she changed our strapless direction into we must have sleeves. I know this is long so I'll cut it now but I'll just say if you or anyone you know is looking for a beautiful gown that she won't see several other bride's trying on...this is your place! Beauty, professionalism and oh yeah...great prices. Thanks Altar Bridal! read more

I have been looking for a well made and affordable wedding dress. I've been targeting the usual suspects: BHLDN, websites offering once worn dresses. While visiting my folks, my mom and I tried out The Alter Bridal. I found a gown that put a goofy grin on my face, and it is 100% due to the truly professional help from Monique. I was clueless about wedding gown vocabulary (fit and flare? Really?), but Monique patiently walked me through the process of finding a couture sample gown that I love. Like, really love. My mom is having back surgery in a few weeks and moves a bit slower and she was very understanding and accommodating! There was a lot to offer in my size 8-12! Ava let me try on at least 10 dresses or more! The first dress I tried on was the one I ended up leaving in!
