If you're a fan of the work of Georges-Pierre Seurat, you're sure to enjoy the 1884 Neo-Impressionism painting, "The Couple" (original title: Un dimanche après-midi sur l'île de la Grande Jatte). Does it somehow look familiar? This was a study for A Sunday on the Island of la Grande Jatte! "This work is one of many that Georges-Pierre Seurat made in preparation for a much larger painting. The woman's stiff posture is accentuated by her tightly buttoned jacket and the exaggerated bustle of her skirt, which echoes the curve of her parasol. Given that the area of Paris depicted here was known for prostitution, it has been suggested that the woman is a sex worker on the arm of a male client." Give yourself several hours if you plan to take in the entire collection. If you are fortunate enough to live nearby and can visit often, take your time and you're sure to fall in love with one of the many wonderfully curated items found within the museum walls.

The volunteers were very helpful and quick to serve you, it looks like fun being a volunteer because I think they may be allowed to drink for free, all of them were drinking. I tasted some of the best beer of my life there, had a nice 1/2 pint of 11%. There are tons of food vendors to help soak up the alcohol in your system when needed. Dogs are welcome. It was a really good atmosphere with lots of positive vibes flowing. Had a great time even as a DD.

So, even when…read moreinvited to sing along at Evensong, it's really difficult to do so - unless you already know the hymn from having sung it before. Being from America - even though I spent many years singing at Episcopalian churches - I was not familiar at all with the selection. I did pretty well because of my background as a singer and no one else near me even tried. If you want to get good seats so you can actually see the choir and watch the conductor, you must get there at least 30 min early, or earlier. We arrived 15 minutes early and were sitting far enough out that we could barely see them. I mean, let's be honest, we weren't really there to worship at Evensong. As a professional chorister who has sung this type of music professionally, the boys in the choir were not always together, and the words were sometimes unintelligible as a result. That being said, they sounded otherwise beautiful and professional. I think only an experienced chorister or musician could pick that out. Sometimes during the year, you can hear an organ concert after. Unfortunately, the one in the program was not happening. It would have been epic.

This is one of the world's premier boys' choirs and experiencing King's College evensongs, services and/or concerts is an important part of the Cambridge experience, in my humble view. Since I have family in Cambridge, we always spend Christmas Eve day waiting in line to hear the afternoon service -- the one broadcast by the BBC worldwide every year. For this privilege, one needs to arrive in line before 6:00 a.m. There is always a group of intrepid fans who appear the night before (one comes every year from Switzerland) so that they can be at the front of the line -- for prime seating inside the chapel. I cannot recommend attending at least one evensong highly enough. [See the web page for specific times, etc. -- and check to make sure the boys are singing. A few days a week they are not -- and it's men only.] Finally, I learned that the choir has its own YouTube station now, with 100 or so videos of the choir performing at Christmas and other times of year. Worth a look/listen!
