Located in the colorful neighborhood of Triana, Barrabas Triana is a modern tapas bar with a seafood-focused menu. We started our tapas crawl with a few specials from their "Sugerencias" (suggestions) board. The Garbanzos con tagarninas was a simple soup of chickpeas and Spanish thistles (a local vegetable); and the Caldo de puchero con hierbabuena was a warm, satisfying soup of meat broth with mint and bits of jamon. While decent, neither of these specials was particularly memorable; however, I was a huge fan of the Chipirones a la riojana (Rioja-style squid) from their main menu. This was chopped squid that had been colored a deep red/purple from the sauce underneath, which was made of onion, wine, and red peppers. The oily sauce had a slight spice and herbal flavor that went perfectly with the squid and the fried potatoes, and the dish was perfect for eating with the bread and olives that came on the side too! read more
