Bowling is an awesome activity, I used to love going during school holidays and for birthday parties, and have been hanging out for ages to go lately! Golden Grove is one of the biggest and oldest bowling centres I've been to around Adelaide, and the place is very open and fun. The lanes are quite easy, have bumpers, are quite well serviced and the technology has been upgrading constantly. There are plenty of balls to choose from, good food, a bar and pro shop. One thing with bowling though, it's not the cheapest.. so take advantage of holiday deals and get a group together. But it's a nice, cool way to spend a few hours in a hot summer.

The lanes are divided into two sections, where in between it is the restrooms. There are various arcade games available to keep you occupied if you are waiting for your games/lanes. There's also a pool table and an air hockey table around. I'm pretty sure the place will be packed during weekends. From the first few throws, it did felt like the lane isn't as oily anymore. However, since we went there in the evening, it's common for lanes to run dry. It makes no difference to me though. I'm no curler nor spinner. I'm just your average straight ball down the middle guy. So long as i hit the sweet spot, the pins will go down.;) I also find the staff in the Centre are all very polite and genuinely interested in providing you a service. The staff here are very friendly, easy to talk to and have great advice! Since recently I've been coming here weekly and it's always the highlight of my week. I think it's because of the positive atmosphere and the homey, kinda nostalgic bowling alley smell. Don't even get me started about their chips! I don't know what it is about bowling alley food, but it's always so good; no matter what bowling alley you're at! Definitely go here.

Marion Bowland is by far the coolest bowling alley I have been to. It's not often that I go and…read morehave a game, however this bowling alley in the heart of Westfield Shopping Center at Marion seems to hook me in every now and again. The entrance is pretty cool for a bowling alley with a thin long corridor well lit with neon lights before entering the 20 or so lane alley. They have a cafe and a bar in there with a jukebox that can play any music you want (it is coin operated and has a good variety of songs spanning across the genres). In terms of pricing and food, Marion Bowland does well. Around $13 for a game throughout the week or 2 games for $20 is excellent value. That price includes the shoe hire, and unlike other bowling alleys, the shoes are actually pleasant and do not smell like sweat. Food is great. They have the standards such as hotdogs, chips and burgers, along with a few nicer items on the menu too such as sandwiches. I had a hotdog at Bowland when there a little while back. The sausage was lean and well cooked, the bun was soft and fresh and the condiments of tomato sauce and American mustard were well dispersed. Bowling balls come in many sizes, so you can easily pick the one to suit your bowling style. I generally pick one of the lighter ones - just personal preference. The computer displays are clear and easy to read. They are also easy to setup. Just a tip though. If you are going at a busy time of the week, such as the weekend or Friday night, then you will need to book as the alley will be packed. Also, watch out for school holidays as they can be very busy here too. Overall, an excellent bowling experience. You will not be disappointed.

It offers a bar, café, arcade games, function rooms for party's. There are about 20 lanes, can get busy, recommended to book. . Prices are good we went on a sat night was $14 for 1 game or $20 for 2 games. Had a happy hour on at the bar. The lanes have lighting effects and a large screen showing music clips, there is also a juke box there so you can pick your own song if you wanted. Can win prizes while bowling if you get good points and strikes or half strikes. Great atmosphere.

AMF Bowling Noarlunga is in the big clump of recreational facilities near the Colonnades Shopping Centre. It's got everything you'd expect, a snack bar, arcade games, and of course 10-pin Bowling. You pay per game, per person, and it can get pretty expensive. Especially when you're playing multiple games. This is great for some spur of the moment fun. All you need to bring along are a pair of socks, everything else is provided for you. But that's pretty much like most bowling alleys. The people were friendly, the place was clean, it's just maybe not as big as some other AMFs.

It's not quite as good as Marion Bowland in terms of food quality and the shoe hire experience, however it is price comparative, and when/if you sign up with their club program, it can be very affordable for a couple of games. They have a small arcade, however they don't really have that many arcade machines and quite a lot of the time, they are packed with people so you can't really use them. The prizes from the tickets are also quite scabby, just like the other AMF centres I have been to, they only have a few good items and even with $8 worth of games, you may be lucky to get a glow in the dark bat or a couple of chocolate bars. They do have unlimited bowling occasionally, however I don't really go bowling enough to take advantage of that deal. If you bowl often though, the price can be very enticing. Be careful of the shoe hire though, the shoes can be very uncomfortable (when compared to Marion Bowland) and can sometimes smell quite sweaty. Also, on two occasions, they gave me the wrong size shoes, even when I told them my size. In terms of the bowling experience, the television display with scores is quite well laid out and easy to operate with the game of bowling. Staff are generally friendly, however don't show a great deal of enthusiasm. Wouldn't recommend the food as much as other bowling alleys though as the hotdogs I have had there tasty a tad overcooked and most of the menu consists of cheap packaged food such as chicken nuggets. In all, a good experience. I do recommend booking though.

So, initially nearly run over by a hoon in the car park, then greeted by some 'interesting' characters loitering by the door, I felt I was right back at my teenage years. Felt quite at home. Needless to say there was some trepidation surrounding the shoes. Quite surprising though, the first pair fitted and was actually smell free, newer and cleaner than the ones I was wearing! Can't really complain. Didn't manage to pick a ball to match though, which was a slight disappointment, but I struggled on. Staff members were helpful and friendly and the food was another surprise. Both my bowling partner and I enjoyed hamburgers that were fresh, tasty and well cooked in a home-cooked style with a soft fluffy bun. Very nice. Chips were ok, but I was too full to eat but a few. There are quite a few food and drink options on the menu, but don't expect a quinoa salad or anything too light. But that's ok, it's that kind of place and one needs a certain amount of calories to keep fueled up! We managed to squeeze in a bit of bowling amongst the food and fashion and it was loads of fun! Boy there are some unusual people there, which provides entertainment in itself. The bowling lanes were clear and working efficiently and the automatic scoring screens were easy to read and follow. There are various deals on the website worth checking out, like the M-Th unlimited deal for 19.90/pp. I'd type more except I now have no pain-free muscles left at all. I'll definitely go again before the next 20years are up. Just need to wait til I can walk again.....

So I guess we have established that I did REALLY WELL at bowling - a 'work team building event' at which I beat my boss...(maybe not a good career move???) but what about the venue? Well it was surprising clean, tidy and presentable for a bowling alley - i don't know why but I have memories of them being dirty....but not so much here! I also noticed you can play laser skirmish here - ultimate party fun times! The food offerings were very...yellow. By which I mean deep fried but I guess that's what ya get! Junk food and fun family activities go hand in hand...right? I had a quick check of the prices and they seemed kinda expensive if you bring the whole family...but I don't really have any thing to compare it to...plus I didn't have to pay - (thanks word!) so no complaints here!
