I bought new winter tires for my Outback here and got good service. I already knew what brand and model tires I wanted (Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2, which I had already been using for several years on two Subarus), so my transaction was fairly simple. I reserved the tires online, and requested a particular appointment time online. The tires were in stock, and I got an email confirmation the next day. They started on my car right away when I arrived, and finished in about 45 minutes. They are a little bit intricate to find. Their shop is in the back of the building fronted by Modern Specialists (a Land Rover and German auto repair shop), and you have to drive around and park at the back of the building. Then the office is not in that building at all, but in the building next door (West of the shop), so you have to walk through an opening in the fence to get to it. Happily there is lots of signage pointing you to the office. Once in the office the staff take care of you right away, and it is a calm place to wait. Barnsley is a local company that is a little bit more expensive than chain stores like Discount Tire; about 10% more on tire prices for the tires I bought, and the same price for labor. So if you are a bargain shopper this is probably not the store for you. They did a good job for me and I would be happy to use them again. read more

I do not understand the concept of having an appointment but they are so backed up and behind that it's taking over 2 hours for a simple tire change. They were always my go to shop. The service is impeccable but you cannot be that inefficient with other peoples time. Needs to improve. read more

Had a flat recently and needed a new place in town since my go-to for over 30 years had retired, closed up and sold the land. That's Boulder these days for family businesses. Shortly after that happened, my husband needed tires on a vehicle and was only able to find what he needed at Barnsley. He bought them and has been happy with them. Fast forward to the flat. We needed the fix On the first day of the blizzard. It was losing 10 lbs a day that weekend. Slow leak, fill it up each day until we got in. Turns out the valve was leaking. They fit it in when they could during the blizzard and called us the next day to come get it. We did though getting it home was tricky, it's our only vehicle NOT AWD. But it was fine with snow tires. They were so helpful and we now have our new regular tire store. read more

Great, quick service and a straightforward fix for a leaky wheel. One tire on my Outback had been losing 5-8 psi/week; that meant either pumping up the tire, or forgetting until the tire pressure light came on, each weekend. Got a recommendation for Barnsley and tried them out for this. They said they'd like a few hours; I dropped off the car, rather than waiting in the waiting area. A few hours later Barnsley called and said the car was ready; I asked what they fixed, and the person said they didn't know offhand but it was probably in the paperwork. Not a problem, but could be smoother. Went in, turned out they just needed a new valve stem; an easy $25 fix, much simpler than anything involving replacing the tire, and probably simpler than a tire repair. It's been holding air great for a week now. So, maybe not Swiss train-level logistics, but a good easy fix. read more

Once again Barnsley rises to the occasion! We've been customers for a few years now but how often are you getting tire service done? It's been a few so finding the new location was a bit tricky. It's behind the Landrover mechanic on Valmont. If you hit 30th you went too far. The office was packed at 8:15am but the guys got us all taken care of quickly. In about an hour they removed the nail, balanced and rotated them. All for under $100! Watching the dogs play was a bonus. 100% worth the weird location. I highly recommend this place. I am an out of state mom, and needed to buy new tires for my kid who attends CU Boulder. Using the website I was able to choose the tire I thought we needed, and then received a call back the next day, we were able to further discuss the best tires for my daughter. We set the appointment and my daughter was able to get the tires installed with a minimum of inconvenience. I was able to pay over the phone and they remembered to email me a receipt. GO TO COSTCO IT WAS $100 CHEAPER. The one star in this review is for the super friendly guy who I booked my appointment with on the phone. I understand that this is a very busy time of year for this business, and they were very accommodating with getting me an appointment in the first place. However, my in-person experience was terrible and I still can't shake it. I called ahead a couple of weeks ago to order my tires and to give my information. When I arrived at Barnsley I got in line and noticed that the customer at the counter was ordering tires- which again, I had already done on the phone. It was my first time there so I was unfamiliar with the process. I walked outside to ask the first employee I saw if I was in the right place, or if perhaps there was somewhere else I should be. I just didn't want to wait in the wrong place only to realize I should have been somewhere else! I thought the question was innocuous but he immediately got upset and treated my like I had just asked the most idiotic question imaginable. After asking rhetorical questions that underlined his exact opinion of me as a stupid, impatient woman- "You have to sign in. How else am I supposed to know your name?" (while scoffing and rolling his eyes)- he pointed me back into the office. He then proceeded to PUBLICLY SHAME ME, walked up to the counter and shouted to the man in front of me "Excuse me sir, can she go in front of you? She's in a HUGE HURRY." I couldn't even believe what was happening. We're all adults right? These are JUST TIRES and I'm a human being and you're a human being? OK, just making sure. I was in shock because I'm not used to be treated like human garbage so I left and CRIED IN MY CAR. Thanks for reminding me that people are terrible! I decided to try out Barnsley Tire for mounting and balancing tires on some new wheels and doing a custom alignment for my BMW. There was a very minor communication error with the alignment specs (to be fair I missed it when picking up the car) but they got me an appointment first thing the next business day and fixed that plus made another small adjustment I requested for free, although I insisted on paying them for the latter. At the end of a long day the last thing you want to hear is "you need to replace all of your tires immediately, like right now" by your mechanic. Needless to say it was too late in the day to go searching for a tire shop so I retired home to do a thorough Yelp investigation - and I'm so glad that I did. This morning I reported to the Barnsley right at opening time (8am) and was greeted by several staff in and outside the establishment (wow this place is already as good as the other Yelper's have proclaimed). After looking at the tires with a staff member I was promptly provided with a few choices in tires. I felt the staff were very honest regarding their recommendations and I gave them the go ahead to order my tires of choice. I am extremely pleased with their service thus far. Definitely appreciate having a local business like Barnsley's in our town. I they understand the importance of customer service, I feel like they actually value my future business. My favorite thing about them is, over nearly 30 years of taking tires with minor problems to Miskount Tire and Boulder's T'Yoda dealership, Barnsley has been willing and able to work with us to repair rather than automatically replace a tire as the other three have. The other two use an odd double talk when avoiding any transaction that results in loss of profit vs the value of earning future business. When I have not felt satisfied by the corporate tire shop explanation for their expensive replacement or repair, in three cases Barnsley had a completely different diagnosis that sounded true, and usually is performed for free because I am their customer. Although they also helped for free on a tire I purchased at Miskount, who as usual just wanted to replace the tire if when I had chosen to avoid purchasing their warranty. So thanks Barnsley. 3 of the 4 "top of the line" (and pricey!) Continental tires that Barnsley sold me for my Subaru blew out with less than 23,000 miles on them. When the first tire blew about 9 months after purchase, I called Barnsley to ask about any warranty coverage. Not only did Barnsley decline to stand behind what they sold me, the manager I spoke with cursed me out and insinuated I was trying to take advantage. Luckily, Continental warranties their tires for 1 year from purchase, so they covered the cost of my first blow out. Long story short - I spent nearly $800 at Barnsley on expensive tires that were supposed to last at least 60,000 miles. I had nothing but problems with those tires and was stunned by the poor customer service when I called Barnsley. In the end, I spent an additional $650 for a completely new set of tires from another tire shop for my own peace of mind and safety. read more

I had called Chris to find out about my flat tire and after asking a couple of questions found out they do more than just tires. When I went in Brian took care of me and did everything within the hour as I had expected them to. The tire was no longer usable, they replaced the tire with a used one, drove the car, checked the struts, changed the tire out, all within the hour. These guys are great and I highly recommend them. I've been going to Barnsley for 10+ years for tires and tire service; they've always done a good job with installation and have competitive pricing. Several times in the past, however, I've noticed discourteous treatment of other customers while sitting in the waiting area, and recently it was my turn. They can be argumentative and sarcastic when dealing with customer questions and issues, and it seems to me they feel like they have too many customers and would like to be less busy. I'm taking my business elsewhere from now on, starting with a set of 4 snow tires just purchased at one of their competitors. read more

Had a great experience here. Took my car in a few weeks ago to get a flat fixed. I neglected to tell them I used an inflator/sealant on the tire the previous day, which temporarily blocks the leak, so they couldn't find the leak, and instead cleaned the tire and did what they could. The next day the wheel was flat again and I took it back, now understanding what had happened. They were extremely understanding, even though it was my mistake, and made sure the leak was fixed in a very timely fashion, and didn't charge at all the second time! He then helped to explain the subtle differences in the tire options available for my vehicle in my price range. My experience in their shop was very good. The "out the door" price Chris quoted me was exactly what they charged. No upselling or hidden charges. Work was performed same day. I am by no means a "car guy". Poor customer service. I called to buy 2 tires for my Toyota AWD. They said I needed to buy 4. I had just replaced 2 due to a blow out while out of town. When I talked to Toyota they said tires can definitely be replaced in pairs as long as they are in similar condition. Barnsley insisted I buy 4. They said they all had to be the exact same tire. I guess they know more than the manufacturer of my vehicle. Also when u try to find a tire price on their website it says "call for price." I love Barnsley Tire. Here is a true story. I got a flat late on a rainy Sunday night outside of the Boulder Efrain's (was delicious, by the way) and could not, for the life of me, get the lugnuts off the tire and neither could my friend. We were soaked through, frustrated and annoyed. The jack kept sinking into the ground because everything was so wet. I called the VW Roadside Assistance (which I still had for another few months) they said they'd be up to 45 minutes. Great, I thought. I heard some noise coming from one of the buildings at a construction company that was right there. My friend went and knocked on the door. An older, very quiet man came out & looked seriously at my tire. Without a word, he walked away and came back with the huge industrial vehicle lifter and a giant GIANT wrench. In moments he had the car up off the ground, the tire removed and the spare on. He maybe said three words to me but was very kind and smiled a lot. I walked off, back to his work, I assume, with me shouting "umm, thank you!" behind him. The next day I drove into Barnsley Tire. I ran into a colleague there and was related this whole story to her when the guy behind the counter overheard me and said "was it a young guy, tall and pretty muscular looking?" I said, "no, an older man, slender." He had a knowing look, "Oh that's Ed*. I've known him for years and years. Great guy. Yup, that's just like him." What? I felt like I was in Mr. Roger's neighborhood. I asked what the company it was and the man's full name. I sent out a thank you card that day. Meanwhile, Barnsley waived me away after repairing my tire when I asked how much it came to. They've repaired my flats two more times for free since then. When it came time for snow tires, they steered me in the right direction, not too expensive but really good. And, the cherry on top? I asked them if I needed the alignment done. Barnsley put on 4 new tires about 2 years ago on my car. I have an electronic detector that tells me if air pressure is low. It goes off, I fill tires with air and 2 days later it goes off again. I drive over to Barnsley and it is clearly busy, I tell the guy at counter situation, he says leave I'll have a look but it will be about 45 minutes. No worries, i'll leave you car come back in 2 hours. I return and sure enough they found a nail in the tire. Guy says we patched it up it's good as new. Hands me key. I say what do I owe you, he says it's our pleasure to serve our customers and thanks me for coming to Barnsley. What more can I say than good customer service is still alive and well at Barnsley. These guys are AWESOME. I noticed a bubble in my tire one morning and took it to Barnsley because of their great reviews and they treated my emergency tire situation as just that, an emergency. I had to drive to Denver that night so they offered to put a loaner on for my long drive. Total time spent was around 45 minutes. It was like I didn't even have an issue to begin with. I've never had such great service from an auto service center. They treated me with respect, were very kind, quick and treated my issue in a way you'd expect from a small town mechanic. I went to Costco because my front tire kept losing air. They told me there wasn't a hole; the rim was bad. I called around and Discount wanted $80 for a new rim. A friend sent me to Barnsley because my car is old and he thought they might have an old rim they'd sell me at a good price. I got comfortable in the office and got into a great conversation with the owner and crew. Boy, they sure are a lot of fun. They said if the rim they had would fit, they'd charge me $25. I figured that would be a deal! Well, a little while longer and the mechanic came in. It seems it HAD been a nail all along! They could have pressured me into buying new tires (the old ones are getting a bit worn), but they could see the car was old and I'd told them I'd just lost my job recently. They patched the tire and didn't charge me a dime. Wow. I didn't think there were companies out there that worked like that anymore! Great experience. No up sales. Superb customer service. Just honest hard working folk. Brought my truck in to replace a blown rear tire. Informed me I had warranty with competitor and would be better off taking it to them for replacement under the warranty. Not only saved me a ton by the recommendation but they even replaced the tire with a used one onsite so that I could drive my truck to the shop...at no charge for the tire or labor. I've been to Barnsley several times now to purchase new tires & get winter tires put on and removed. They are always friendly, do the work on time and on top of all that, they seem to be cheap as well. Then... yesterday I had new tires put on my car. This morning I noticed some scratches on my car that weren't there before. The only place I had been yesterday was there & work. So I was almost positive it happened there. I went back today and spoke to the owner about it. And true to form, they totally took care of it. There was no defensiveness or trying to deny responsibility. He immediately called a local body shop and told me to go over there. I went and they buffed out the scratches at no charge. Today I went in for my snow tire change. Most of the folks waiting on people didn't have masks. Numerous workers walked in and out unmasked (none even in sight). Customers came in and out without masks. One custoner sat at the table working the whole time I sat outside. I had planned to work but wasn't comfortable inside and their internet didn't reach outside. Last Spring the situation was similar, though way fewer unmasked workers were in evidence. I've been a long-time customer and they've lost my business for good. Obviously they don't give a rip about the safety of their customers. I should add that, once they moved, the cost of tire change-out went up $36%. read more

My regular place couldn't find a slow leak so I went on Yelp to find some alternatives. Since everything in downtown Boulder is more expensive because of the hipness factor and insane taxes, I was concerned about the options. I cannot say enough about this place. We had a flat tire on a BRAND NEW car (16,000 miles) and the dealership said we would have to replace the whole set because it was AWD. Took the car to Barnsley and not only did they try to patch the tire, they pulled out a six inch drill bit out of the tire to find it couldn't be saved. So they replaced our tire with a used one of the same wear for free! Anytime I need tires, I am not only going here but I am also going to send everyone I ever know who needs tires here. I usually take my car to Costco for winter/summer tire swaps, but given the positive reviews, I thought I'd give Barnsley a try. They were efficient, professional, and friendly. I watched the guy do the work and he was attentive to detail, noting that two of my wheels are slightly bent (he put them on the rear). I waited while the work was done and the listened as the staff treated everyone with the same level of courtesy and professionalism. If you need a used tire to save a little cash, you should also strongly consider them. Plus great pickles... p.s. they hand torque the lug nuts and use torque wrenches to check the wheels are tightened to spec (i.e. no overtorqued lug nuts). read more
