The mechanic said that my car needed to be rewired as rodent had chewed on the wire. I picked my car up after he said he repaired the wiring. I drove it home. I turn the ignition off, the sun roof when it has been sealed for 8 years, sounds like it is going back and forth for one or two minutes. I returned and told them about it. They said that they knew about it but the cost was too expensive. I have never had trouble with the sunroof before. Very disappointed in their service. My mother and I brought both our cars over to get fixed. Hers for an ignition problem, and mine to get winterized. it took 2 weeks for them to get started on her van, which they couldn't figure out what was wrong, and gave it back with no gas left, and mine we ended up taking early ( after a week of them holding it), because they couldn't get it to start, when we got there we found out they killed my battery and nothing had been started on. Recently, I brought my 2003 Chevrolet Impala LS in for repair to the Traction Control System after the warning light came on and stayed on. In many auto service centers, the mechanic will tell you the problem is one of the following: wheel-speed sensors, traction control module, electronic control module, or high pressure pump need replacing. Sometimes, one of these is actually the correct issue with the traction control system. However, many disreputable or dishonest mechanics simply want to claim that the most expensive items are the problem in order to pad their profit margin. This is not what I have found in dealing with Barney's Auto Service. In this instance, the problem with my traction control system was a loose/broken wire. This problem was quickly repaired for a nominal charge, and the traction control system was restored to normal and has been functions correctly (no warning light) ever since the service was performed. In the era in which we live, honesty and integrity are almost lost character traits for individuals. With Barney's Auto Service mechanics, these traits are still alive and well. For this reason alone, I would highly recommend Barney's Auto Service to anyone needing automotive repair. This auto service center still believes in the "Golden Rule", and still practices Christian principles in their business. read more

Traveling to the Midwest for summer vacation. Driving from Las Vegas NV to Branson MO. Had the water pump go out in middle of no where west Texas. I had to stop every 10 miles to top of the radiator but made it the 60 miles to Amarillo. Did a quick search for an auto repair shop. Found Barney's Auto Service with their claim of the only ASE certified shop in Amarillo. I called and was told to bring it in and we would be back on the road in no time. "We are Amarillo's original and currently only ASE Recognized Blue Seal automotive repair shop in town. In fact, our entire service staff is ASE certified with 3 master and 2 advanced level certified technicians". Well I figured that was our best choice and driving a Dodge truck in Texas, parts should easily found and replaced. I got the truck to the shop and was met by someone in the parking area who said we cant fix that today. I went into the office and talked to the lady who was my phone contact. She said they would get someone on it right away. After a while she went to see what was taking so long to bring it into the garage. She talked to several mechanics and one was sent to get my truck. The one who said we cant fix it today. So now we are 2 hours there and now just getting the truck looked at. After another hour or so the mechanic comes to the waiting area and announces that our water pump is bad. Oh thank you great Copernicus of the ratchet wrench. Now they have to get find the water pump which apparently is like the holy grail. Really? This is west by god Texas and they cant find a water pump for a Dodge pickup. So we wait and wait. Copernicus finally shows up with the water pump so I can see the end of the tunnel. He proudly states he got the pump with a lifetime warranty which was a little more ($50) but a small price to pay for peace of mind. Yeah that makes me much happier knowing if I ever lose a water pump again driving through Amarillo Texas again in my lifetime I will be covered. Now that he is back it is now lunch time so all work stops. Once the activity starts again I wait for an hour the walk to the bay door to get snacks and drinks for my family out of our ice chest, Copernicus is smoking and playing grab ass with someone else in the parking lot. Seeing me his buddy disappears but Copernicus just stares at me with his best gunfighter squint like he is daring me to say something. Trying to be as intimidating as a skinny redneck kid with more tattoos than teeth can be. He finishes his smoke and flicks the butt into the parking lot. He goes back to the front of the truck and ponders the complexity of a radiator hose. Well after 6 1/2 hours and $400 after arriving we are cleared for take off. They charge me for parts, labor and water. We leave 7 hours behind schedule. Fast forward 6 weeks I have another overheating problem. I do live in Las Vegas and it is summer here. My fleet mechanic checks the truck out with me standing there. There is no antifreeze in the radiator. ASE blue medal certified Barney's Auto Service of west by god Texas had put the old rusty water back in and charged me for Antifreeze and distilled water to fill the radiator. The overheating was caused by rupturing the bypass hose that was not changed but I paid for the new hose and labor to change it. Barney's also got me for replacing the serpentine belt that was unnecessary. If you are going to be dishonest don't leave the evidence (the old belt ) in the back of my truck. As a side note my dad and I changed the water pump on his Dodge. Same engine and parts in the driveway in less than 2 hours including time to get the water pump from the parts store and fabricating a tool to get the fan off. Maybe we should get a Blue medal from ASE. read more

Poor service, sold me an engine that he said he just rebuilt. It took four quarts of oil to get to Borger and back. He then said he would rebuild my engine. They put the wrong push rods in the engine and it sounded like a diesel, they put the right ones in and then the starter fell off two weeks later. I think he should stick with minor tuneups and oil changes. This was years ago but I doubt much has changed. read more

This place came recommended by a co-worker, and I'm so happy I went here over another place. They were very kind, even offering to take me home since they were working on my only vehicle. The repair was much less than even they quoted at the beginning, even though they could have charged me more for the diagnosis. They gave my car back to me with an engineering bulletin for my car saying the problem I was having was pretty common. Very informative! I couldn't be happier with these folks and they've got a customer for as long as I live here. read more

My son is the owner of a Toyota Celica and we contacted Barney's on a Friday before lunch time with the anticipation that I would need to get an appointment for the next week. The receptionist at the shop took all of my information and confirmed that they may be able to get the car in that day. Dropped it off at lunch, they called to confirm problem and what it would cost to fix ($188.00) and if I wanted to proceed. They called my back at 4 pm and told me the car was ready and gave me a different final cost of $166.56. The staff was very friendly and waited until I arrived to pick up the car which was right at 5:30 their closing time. I could not have been happier with the service or the price. Would suggest them anytime you need your car looked at. read more
