Love this Barnes and noble because it's huge! Toddler is a big fan of their children's section, along with the train table they have out. It's always pretty quiet which is a good aspect in a book store. the employees are always very helpful if you need them. read more

Huge Barnes & Noble fan for as long as I can remember! I've just always loved the atmosphere of this place! Walking in, getting the smell of fresh coffee from Starbucks mixed with the smell of new books! Just something that can't be replicated! I obviously love this place for its extensive library, but the packs of trading cards ranging from Magic the Gathering, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh to nearly any Sports card you'd be looking for is what really puts the cherry on top for me! This is definitely a hidden gem when it comes to looking for sealed packs! I'm hesitant to reveal just a bit LOL, but I feel like I would want to know where the honey holes are! My favorite store! I love barnes and Noble so much! I love reading so much like so many other people. I have the membership and it's about $40 a year and how much I usually go there it's so worth it! I love just wondering around finding new books. They also have great recommendations of books the staff has read and great gift ideas. Check out is usually pretty fast and efficient too. My only complaint is they have a help service desk and NO ONE is ever there to actually help you. you have to stand in the long front line just to ask your question. read more

This library was fine. There was a good amount of books at a fine price. Also, the staff were pretty nice.

There was a mental guy taking his shoes off, pulling his pants down (nothing underneath), moaning, and blocking the path in the upstairs book area. I asked staff if he was okay, and was told that he was being talked to, but no one was talking to him. He seemed like he was on drugs. None staffed cared or took care of the situation and we were there for over an hour. We felt uncomfortable and left without buying anything even though we wanted to. read more

I've forgotten how much I like to hold and read books. Since I bought my iPad, I've been reading almost exclusively on a screen. My husband loves the experience of a book...turning the pages, dogearing a page so you can go back to it and just the weight of it in his hand. He goes to Barnes & Noble all the time but I've gotten lazy and prefer my couch and the glow of my iPad screen. He finally talked me into joining him on his most recent trip and to be honest, the allure of coffee and cheesecake got me to leave the iPad behind. I've forgotten how expansive the selection is at B&N. It's easy to spend hours checking out the selection to pick a volume to read. When we got to the store, we immediately ordered our coffee and split a slice of Cheesecake Factory red velvet cheesecake (sounds redundant). Both was as expected...great! Then we found a home base and each took our turn finding an interesting read to take home. While I waited in the cafe, I was struck by how much this reminded me of a community center. There were two middle school kids playing board games, each with their backpack and Frappuccino. There was also a tutor and her pupil working on math as far as I could tell. Then there were the random people like my husband and me who were just there to buy a great book, enjoy the company and some treats, and be a part of the community of book lovers. Yep, that book in my hand felt pretty good. I think I'll cheat on my iPad more. read more

I was also having a rough day, so the thoughtfulness and willingness to help really meant a lot and made my day. My friend and I used a BOGO coupon to get a Reeses cookie and a Salted Caramel Toffee cookie. The cashier was very friendly and even gave us recommendations! Our cookies were best heated, which took no time at all. I'd definitely recommend this cafe to anyone visiting B&N! read more

Since Barnes & Noble is the ONLY bookstore here in Richmond, I think they should lower their prices some. Why? I wanted a book either hardbound or Paperback, so I went on Amazon and also Barnes & Noble website. The Paperback was $12.95 on both places. So, I went into the store and they had the book at $17.95. I told them how it was cheaper online. Their excuse is, you have to pay for shipping and because of this... it would be the same price. Also, they offer a $25. card which allows you to buy book and other items at a lower price. Now, I can understand as to why book stores here in Richmond are going out of Business. It is cheaper to Buy Online, if you do not mind waiting several days for the shipping. The Customer Service was Outstanding, as they could not find the book on the shelf and he went to find it elsewhere... Big Kudos for this. When you pay, the Cashiers are extremely friendly as well. I like Barnes & Noble as they have been around for a long time, but it makes me wonder, JUST how long. I think when the Internet is becoming the way to shop for many people, sometimes you need to adjust. I wanted the book, and I didn't want to wait several days to start reading it, or otherwise I would have gone home and ordered it from Amazon. At least in B & N.... you can see the book and read parts of it to see if it is worth the cost.... I will continue to shop there, however I do not spend as much as I use to as it is cost effective to shop Online..... :-) read more

This B&N is huge and has an amazing selection of books, magazines, calendars, gifts, etc. It's design -- thanks to its ridiculously high ceilings -- is spacious and inviting, and that's part of the reason it's such a great "hangout." Even on a Friday night just before closing, people are in there shopping, socializing and studying in every corner of the building. It has a Starbucks for refreshment, the lines move quickly, and it's just a great bookstore, even if it is a major chain. Parking can be hard to get, though. read more

I love anything book related and in my thirst for knowledge I find myself here so often I should probably apply for employment. I would probably be one of the happiest employees ever! I have a Kindle, and while that and places like BookBub have probably increased my reading two fold I still can't beat the feeling of a real book in my hands. I LOVE little mom n' pop book shops for picking up older and rare books but for the regular stuff Barnes and Noble just works. read more

I have yet to have a pleasant experience in this store. The cashiers are usually rude and they're very pushy about buying the loyalty card that is advertised all over the store. I don't pay for loyalty or discount cards, every other store gives them to you for free. And I do frequent B&N enough to justify having one but can't afford it after my book total. After being told "no thank you, I'm not interested" for about the 4th time in a single encounter, the girl got nasty about it...I replied by telling her that this attitude, pushiness, and the prices are why Amazon gets all the book business. After that, she didn't even hand me my bag, I had to reach over the counter and take it. Then, when I went in again just this past weekend, there were two cashiers (one of them being the girl from last time) at the front and a decent line forming behind me. The same cashier looked right at me, closed her register and walked off, leaving the one young lady to deal with the line. I worked in a large bookstore...this never, ever, would've been tolerated and I don't know that it would in any other reputable establishment. There's plenty of bookstores in RVA, I don't need this one. read more

You just want to grab a few good books and settle in. I would give them more stars, but the prices! So expensive... I usually browse for some good books then check Amazon. Not usually into the "big name" places but the corporation has been suffering quietly in the financial department, closing over 160 stores in 2014 and connecting instead with local colleges to collaborate with universities as bookstores. I like this particular location because of the selection of bargain books, the clever "think please think" toys, and variety of non-fiction available. The employees are helpful and it isn't freezing like many other BnNs that blast the AC like we are all polar bears. read more

This review is for the Barnes & Noble online store. On 4/30/15 I placed an online order. The amount was very little like $40+. I put in a coupon so I never questioned the 38 or so total charged to me! more than a month later I saw another charge of $7.32 on my account. When I called B&N their reasoning for the 2nd unauthorized charge is they had an error in their billing system which meant I did owe the additional $7.32.... This $7.32 is enough, with no notice of the additional charge, to make a lot of difference in my banking.... The company is thoughtless.... Careless..... No human empathy at all was shown to me during my call to them... Nor afterward. Barnes and Noble and the reps I spoke with would rather loose me as a customer than give me the $7.32 back YOU STOLE IT! You lost a faithful customer... Normally I go in person to the Short Pump location. Last week I bought more than $50 in new release books. I will never step foot into B & N again because of your lack of customer service for the online store.... Very sour taste left over after this experience! Just got back from the bank... They also felt it was fraud to charge my account twice when only authorized to charge it one time! BOOYAAA~! TGI USA! read more

Decent atmosphere but selectively excludes books like the best selling Dangerous. Was told they refused to order and stock the book though many are in in their warehouse. No need to support brick and mortar B&N and Amazon is far more efficient with online orders. Likely won't be back read more
