I had pretty much steered clear of this park since the curb appeal is well...suspect (RG&E zone blocks the park from Farmington St). There is a bit of a litter problem in this park and it is in need of some pretty basic updates. The baseball diamond takes up the majority of the park and there is some lovely shade and greenery just behind. There is a single hoop basketball court with picnic tables in the rear. There was a family kickball game going on during our visit which was super adorable, and I would love to come back and do the same with friends at some point, given the convenient location. It's walking distance from my house and a great spot to hone some tennis skills, so I will be back again soon! I would love to see some beautifications so people can really enjoy an entire afternoon as opposed to just stopping by.

The backdrop is a rather large RG&E power station and some older houses on the edge of the city. But with that being said, it's actually a quaint little setup. The baseball field is spacious and fairly well maintained. There is a nice tennis court and a small picnic area. The ball field bleachers are even in pretty good shape, which is a big plus for wooden bleachers. On the downside, the fencing around the perimeter is in pretty rough shape and there is a real shortage of parking.

My nephew gets a kick out of always spotting deer here! We always pack snacks or a picnic lunch, plenty of picnic tables to share. My favorite is the pond here, always seems to have birds, fish and lot's of ducks! Make sure to bring along some bread to share. Lot's of benches through out the park, perfect for taking a break and still able to see the entire park.

I often think that…read moreVeteran's Memorial is tough for little kids (1-3) because bigger kids often shove them out of the way and they end up getting hurt, the playground slides are really huge, and it's a little harder to keep an eye on multiple kids. Martin Road Park is smaller, has benches to sit where you can keep an eye on multiple kids, and has slightly smaller playsets. My three-year-old loves this park because he can easily climb around and run his Hot Wheels cars along the playset. There is also a pond with fish and ducks - bring some bread scraps! There are also a lot of shaded picnic tables - so bring a lunch while you're at it as well!
