There is a large sandpit and as anyone who has raised a toddler knows, this is a huge hit for the little ones. What makes Ellwanger Barry special is that there are many donated toys available for kids to play with in the sandbox- old tonka trunks, sand buckets, etc. Outside of the sandbox, there is assortment of other outdoor toddler toys to ride and play in such as a playhouse, bikes, and self-propelled cars and riding toys. The playground itself is nice and there is a mix of equipment for varying ages. The slides are made of metal though, so watch out during the hot summer days or make sure your little one wears protection. Parents here are usually very outgoing and converse while the little ones play.

I could sit nearby and watch while the kids moved from one play area to another. The café had good options for both kids and adults, too. We spent about two and a half hours there, and the kids still didn't want to leave! It's a lovely indoor playground in Rochester for families with children of different ages.

Decent indoor playground in Henrietta near RIT…read more Located in a warehouse-like building with tall ceilings, it's got a large pirate ship themed play structure in the middle. It also has a large bounce house, a small bicycle course, a foam block area, a sensory bin gem section and a pretty impressive water play area. I think the water play area was the most impressive part of the indoor playground. It was also nice to have a cafe in the middle with plentiful seating and a decent selection of kids snacks and foods (pizza, grilled cheese, sandwiches). Pricing I think was comparable to other indoor playgrounds, except they made me buy socks which was a bit annoying (I guess you can bring your own, but my girls were wearing sandals). It was about ~ $45 dollars for 2 kids, but unlimited time and I believe you can exit and come back later (which is another plus). Overall a good option on a rainy or snowy day to let the kids blow off some steam. My girls weren't THAT into the water play section, so I would probably be better off just going to the Strong Museum where we have an annual pass and has more activities.

Definitely a cool spot to visit & it's located directly across the street from the Strong Museum. Since we visited on a late afternoon, we had no issues finding a street parking spot nearby. This review is for the ice skating rink which replaces the fountain and reflecting pool at the park…read morein the winter months. The rink is operational from Dec through mid March, as long as temps are above 45 degrees. There is a zamboni that is used to resurface the ice every couple or few hours, keeping it in pretty good shape. The rink is not that large, but it's a good size for an outside rink (as opposed to indoors rinks, which are larger because they are used for hockey). For the past few Decembers, Wegmans has generously sponsored the rink, so that skate 'rentals' and use of the rink are free up until New Years. You just have to wait in the line (which can be long at times!) to get your skates. When renting skates, they have figure-skating-style and hockey-style skates; they also have a wide ranges of sizes from small sizes for kids through all the adult sizes. They are periodically sharpening the skates too but beware that this is a public place and the skates you receive might not be that sharp. For those new to skating, the rink offers 'skate mates' which allow you to hold on to something and keep your balance while learning how to balance on the blades. This is a great option for little kids and adults that need extra stabilization. For 2024, they have a special event where you can skate for free if you bring a canned good for their food drive through Jan 15th. Then after that, the rink continues to operate but switches over to a paid model (prices vary). You can still rent skates or bring your own and just pay to use the rink. Note that if you bring your own skates, you can also get them sharpened onsite on Mondays and Tuesdays. Where to leave your stuff?? It's recommended to change into your skates inside the warming hut, but then take your shoes/boots outside and leave them under one of the tables or benches. Make sure NOT to walk on the concrete sidewalks with your skates on - stay on the rubber mats provided between the warming hut and rink - otherwise the surface of the skate blade can be damaged. There are also nearby bathrooms and the warming shelter includes a fireplace. The location has free parking all around, and at holiday times, coincides with the Rochester Holiday Village - which means it can be busy and parking can be a challenge, but there's also parking in the Strong museum garage.

Took a Sunday walk to Farmington Park for some tennis and sunshine! Overall: a fine park to spend…read moreyour afternoon. Tennis courts are really beautiful and don't seem to get a ton of use. I had pretty much steered clear of this park since the curb appeal is well...suspect (RG&E zone blocks the park from Farmington St). There is a bit of a litter problem in this park and it is in need of some pretty basic updates. The baseball diamond takes up the majority of the park and there is some lovely shade and greenery just behind. There is a single hoop basketball court with picnic tables in the rear. There was a family kickball game going on during our visit which was super adorable, and I would love to come back and do the same with friends at some point, given the convenient location. It's walking distance from my house and a great spot to hone some tennis skills, so I will be back again soon! I would love to see some beautifications so people can really enjoy an entire afternoon as opposed to just stopping by.

The backdrop is a rather large RG&E power station and some older houses on the edge of the city. But with that being said, it's actually a quaint little setup. The baseball field is spacious and fairly well maintained. There is a nice tennis court and a small picnic area. The ball field bleachers are even in pretty good shape, which is a big plus for wooden bleachers. On the downside, the fencing around the perimeter is in pretty rough shape and there is a real shortage of parking.
