Jackson Construction built my son's house. A construction loan, based on the company's estimate,…read morewas obtained from a local bank. Construction loan funds are disbursed based on the percentage of completion of various tasks. This builder's contract was an "estimate", which meant that regardless of how badly the cost was estimated, the "estimate" number was irrelevant and immaterial. Whenever he wanted a payment he just sent a bill and wanted payment within a certain number of days. So there was no real concern about the customer or the funding of the process. The dwelling ended up costing about 40% higher than the "estimate", was about 6 months later than the initially indicated date, and getting everything finished was a tedious, laborious, irritating endeavor. If you don't want to make a decision that will irritate you for the life of your mortgage, I suggest you look elsewhere for a builder.
