Dr. Houston is absolutely amazing. She is so kind, knowledgeable, and our animals love her. She takes the time with each pet to do thorough exams while ensuring they are comfortable. Each visit, Dr Houston answers every single question we have, and never makes the visit feel rushed. We value that type of care, and every so often when we do have to wait in the lobby, we know she is giving that pet family the same level of care. So happy we found Barlow Trail!!! read more

I rescue guinea pigs, but I'm not a 503 organization. I have 14! Don't judgeDr. Houston is knowledgeable about GP's, she's kind, she's helpful and very thorough. For those people saying it's pricey--EVERY VET is pricey! Vets have to make a living too. They do their best to keep our pets happy and healthy at the same time providing for their families. I'm happy with the service I receive from them and will continue to take all of my pets to see them. read more

Was able to take my 12 yo cat in on short notice. But, $178 to examine him and test poop? Nothing prescribed or applied to address diarrhea.

Unusual up front payment policies. Expensive compared to other providers. Lack of followup. Hours are not convenient. We have transferred care of our pets as a result. read more

Dr. Houston is awesome. And any professional practice is priced exactly as they are. Highly recommend.

Beware. We bought a 2 for 1 shot package for $168. Then we had to cancel the follow up appt due to a family emergency. They called us a few weeks later, encouraging us to reschedule the appointment. I asked specifically if there would be a charge. I was told "no, there will be no charge." Then I took our dog in and they wanted to charge me $168 again, and was told, "you had to come back within 30 days to get the 2nd shot free." They sold us a 2:1, pursued us to come in, would not honor it and then tried to charge us again. They will also try to upsell you on everything for supplements to dog food. This place has very poor customer service and is out for the money, not for the best interests of your pet. Beware. read more

I've been taking my animals Pele, Randy, Walter, & the late Gary (RIP) to Barlow Trail for 5 years now. They haven't always been patients of Dr. Houston (they saw Kara Leavitt for a bit) but it hasn't mattered to us. After years of trying to get an accurate diagnosis, Pele was finally and correctly diagnosed with a food allergy & treated successfully. He also had a horrifying snaggletooth that Dr. Houston was able to take care of. My cat is 18 years old thanks to Barlow Trail. I've never felt like I've been given the upsell there either. I think veterinary medicine can be expensive and owning a small business in Sandy is difficult. Dr. Houston has recommended a few small things which I have occasionally declined (i.e.,a vaccine that is most certainly due but since my cats are 100% indoors they are under-vaccinated) but there isn't anything she's suggested that I didn't know wasnt already recommended. As me and my family move out of Sandy this year, we will miss the kind service of Barlow Trail & hope that we can find another vet as great as Dr. Houston has been. read more

I made an appointment for 10:30 and I was not helped until 12. The staff is very kind, but they are overbooking. Pretty pricey, too.

DO NOT RECOMMEND. There are some really great competent veterinarian clinics in the area, save your time and money and skip Barlow Trail. We initially had a good first visit and I actually wrote a stellar review. I was in the office during the visit and while my dog was not loving the exam, I held him and he behaved. Six months later I found out during a routine phone call for a prescription dog food refill (to which they refused to fill) that my dog was no longer welcome on their premise. No one could say why or provide explanation that could help us find different care. I'm not even sure it wasn't a mix up, but they were not friendly about it and there were no discussions to be had on their end. I asked for records and couldn't find anything in those to indicate foul play. I'm blown away by the lack of empathy or compassion they had in communication with me. Hard pass. read more

Go to Gresham/portland if you wanna save your wallet. Good vets but not good enough for their prices.

Dr. Houston and her care team are the best of the best. She's the only vet I trust to truly care for our pups. She and her team are so mindful and caring. read more

Dr. Houston has always had my adoration from the beginning, when I moved here in 2009. I had, two little dogs, a Min Pin and Doxin. I have spent thousands and thousands of dollars over the years. My Min Pin developed an eye infection after a dental procedure, she ended up losing her sight in both eyes. My Doxin, had back problems 2 times with frequent visits. There were other Vets working with her in the beginning, but each time they would move on to other places leaving Dr.Huston to be the only vet. She closed her location in Damascus. Currently, after the pandemic things changed and it feels like it's all about the money. You must pay a 100.00 deposit prior to your visit, I'm sure that I'm not the only person who feels that after many years of being a loyal customer having to pay a deposit is almost insulting. When you're in the exam, you are signing constantly for services. Now, don't get me wrong, it's good to know what the expectations are and she is very high priced, and I've gladly paid, but when I needed her, truly and wholeheartedly needed her, her staff turned me away. I rushed my Doxin in, who was having a seizure to be told they were at capacity. An hour later, a wonderful mobile vet came to my home and performed a euthanasia. My heart is broken. The years spent going there, the monies I spent for every little thing they suggested meant nothing, my dogs meant nothing. I've learned a lesson. I have two other dogs and I will be leaving Barlow Trail. I understand this is a business, but my dogs are not, and I expected better. read more

Dr. Houston was great and staff was nice. Calls were returned. I have a cat that I have taken in for the same issue. Some kind of dermatitis. I am on a very tight budget. Both appointments were not successful in helping my cat. 600$ and my cat is worse than when I first brought her in. She is literally chewing her whole body. Her body is full of raw skin and scabs. I wanted to make another appointment but for the tests it would be about 700$ That doesn't include the 320$ for the allergy test and office visits. I am going to another vet that does not rob you. People want to help their animals and obviously this vet isn't going to help if you can't afford it. I have to start all over again. It's really frustrating when the vet bills for a cat is as much as a large dog. I will never recommend this vet or go to this vet again. read more

Hope everyone who's considering this clinic reads this before they decide. Dr. Houston was very thorough and considerate with my dog. Communication with dr. Houston and the staffs were prompt. However, extremely overpriced. 2-3 times the price of what I got from other vet clinic(for a spay). 10 times the price for the ultrasound. Their 'spay special' offer doesn't make any sense. I wonder who would even consider getting their pets spayed/neutered here after hearing that nonsense. Blood tests, as well, overpriced. They charged for 3 tests and didn't even do one of them. At least, didn't give me the result(When I asked them I've only got two results. I kept asking through both emails and other vet clinic, still missing the info on one result). Didn't even bother complaining. I'd rather focus on my dog's health for now. Over priced. Over the moon priced. My dog wouldn't have gone through any of those tests here but unfortunately, my dad did in a rush while I was away. $900 gone down the drain now that I have to redo all the blood tests at the other vet clinic. According to the same test that I never got the result of from Barlow, my dog is on ani-biotic now. Even though those other tests might still be valid, I completely lost any faith in this clinic, I decided to redo everything somewhere else. It's not all about the money(maybe a little). It's about the faith. To all pet owners, GOOGLE THE AVERAGE COSTS FOR TREATMENTS/TESTS before you go to any vet clinic. I would agree with 120%-150% the average price but not with 300-1000%. Also, their treatment room stinks. No offense. It truly does. There's no way I would leave my dog here without me for hours for any surgery. No wonder why their reputation is so horrible among the locals. This was the most time/money consuming review I've ever wrote anywhere. Because I know you care for your loved friends as I do, you need to go somewhere else. read more

Dr Houston is the most compassionate and skilled veterinarian that I have ever encountered. She took special care in doing a cancer surgery on my very elderly little dog of 14 years! She does judge the pet owner if imperfect pet management occurs because of life conditions thathave happened to your family. LOVE the care and the skilll she offers! My highest rating given and I drive from Damascas to Sandy so my animals can see her! read more

I would give zero if I could. I have had 3 issues over the last few years with two different animals: 1) Terrible bedside manner by the owner/operator Dr Houston during very first visit (not sure why we even came back) 2) Missing a LARGE tumor while doing a hands on exam by Dr Carson (who apparently is not longer with Barlow and they never miss an opportunity to point that out) 3) The event that I am posting about today: I called to get a prescription transferred to a different (less expensive) pharmacy and they told me that I need to bring my animal in for an exam...even though there are 4 refills. This is a medication that my animal has been on for a few years and they are the ones that wrote the prescription for 90 day supplies with MULTIPLE refills. The last time I had it filled was 6/10/21 and not one word was mentioned that I would need to get another exam before next refill. Looking back at her records (and other reviews across multiple platforms), it is clear that they are incompetent (vets coming and going constantly and no consistent care) and makes it clear to me that they see an opportunity to exploit a person for more money. I refused to bring my animal in for an exam when there are refills remaining on a valid prescription...I was hung up on. Now because this isn't the first platform I have written a review on, I will address what I believe there response will be (based on the responses I have received on other said platforms)...that the prescription was expired and they needed an exam (which I addressed earlier in this review)...I have scoured the refill bottle and there is no expiration date! IF the prescription was "expired" then it needs to show that ON the bottle...not on some record I can't see (so I can schedule follow up appointments like I would for myself or my children). IF and exam needs to be done every so often then their veterinarians need to NOT be writing prescriptions that EXCEED that timeframe (especially not by MONTHS, this current bottle still had 4 refills at 90 days each...that is a year right there and originally there was more refills then that because she hadn't been seen in at least a year) and trying to backpedal when getting called out on it. So needless to say I wouldn't refer this place to my worst enemy...but do your own research. There are TONS of bad reviews. Some of them are gut wrenching...our animals are our babies and to be treated with such disdain is disgusting. I feel grateful that my issue is minor compared to some! Save yourself the headache if you value your animals. This vet clinic is incompetent, disrespectful, rude and worst of all, MONEY HUNGRY. (Side note...they are only open Monday-Thursday....but don't provide that info on the voicemail) read more

Dr Houston is the most impressive that I have worked with in 20 years. Very thorough and caring.

I'm a very picky person when it comes to going to the vet. Since I work with animals I feel like a snobby know it all and I want my vet to talk with me like an educated person, not your average dog owner. I've brought both my dogs here for various illness, one chronic and one acute, and got different vets each time. Both experiences were incredible. The vets talked to me about what was necessary vs what we could wait on if I couldn't afford it at the time. Not every vet will break down each price and try to make it work with you. Very transparent. They answered all my annoying questions and gave me realistic goals with each treatment. It's INCREDIBLY difficult to book a vet appointment across the US at the moment, there is a veterinary shortage, and I feel so thankful that I can get an appointment when I need it. When my dog suddenly got sick I got an appointment within 3 days, when most other places didn't have appointments for 3 weeks! I think they're very fair, honest, and treated my dogs wonderfully! I drive all the way from Portland to go here because I like them so much. read more

Dr Jaime is a excellent veterinarian!! Her staff are friendly and all of the clinic are professional. Going to a veterinarian office is much like going to the human ER. often they will have emergency patients who arrive and need to be seen. We have experienced that situation and I'm so grateful Dr Jaime Houston saw our animal. when you go to a veterinarian appointment just know that yes you will have to wait. Planning other appointments on the day of your veterinarian appointment is unrealistic and not something you should do. It doesn't matter what veterinarian you go to see you will have to wait to see the dr. I was recently at dr Houston's office and a gentleman got angry because he had to wait and he had another appointment. well that was his first mistake. you clear your schedule when you go to a veterinarian appointment. It was silly he expected to be seen so quickly. maybe he had never taken his animals to go see a veterinarian but that's a unrealistic expectation. this veterinarian is worth the wait. she gives time and knowledge and experience to your animals, that is worth the wait! I can't say enough positive things about this veterinarian office. Sandy is very lucky to have them in our community! read more

We were impressed from our first appointment with Dr. Houston when she got down on the floor and examined our furry family member from head to tail. Several appointments later, we felt very confident that our dog was getting excellent care. Sadly we had to make end-of-life decisions for our furry family member. Dr. Houston provided the information we needed, and support during a very difficult time for both my husband and me. Thank you to Dr. Houston and the staff for your excellent and compassionate care! Our only issue was when we needed to pick up our dog's prescription for anti-seizure medication. They would not send them to a pharmacy, but we would have to drive to their office to pick them up each time. This was a bit of a hassle. read more

My dog has a poo stuck in her bum that she could not get out herself. I tried to pull it out but it was hard as a rock. I called my Banfield vet but they couldn't get us in. After calling around, this Barlow vet could get us in same day with a $80 deposit. Kinda shitty but we needed my dog to be seen...she literally couldn't potty. The ladies at the front desk were nice. After waiting a bit we finally saw Dr. H. She explained what she found and was very upfront about her recommendations and price. Eventually my dog got an x-ray done and had some fluids and meds. The whole appt was 2 hours and I was so happy that they could see us same day. I was nervous about this vet after seeing the bad reviews, but wanted to share my good experience. read more

I usually don't leave reviews, let alone negative reviews but this place has earned one. To start from our first visit and every visit thereafter we wouldn't be let into a room and seen for 45 min to over an hour after our scheduled appointment. Secondly, prices here are very high. A quote to get our normal dog spayed came in at 1400-1600! That queued us off to things being a bit strange here considering the same operation from every other place we called was 450-1000. We noticed our regular flea, tick and heartworm medication through this office was coming in at over $100 more than chewy online. So we asked for a prescription from Dr. Housten to fulfill our regular meds elsewhere. They made us schedule an appointment a month out to come in and get a prescription, although nothing was changing. They would not work with us at all to help facilitate us getting medication cheaper elsewhere, furthermore they wrote the prescription for the wrong weight of our dog, so we had to have them prescribed for the right weight to be able to order it, they had her updated wait from the previous visit. 3 weeks in on the days leading up to the appointment time they contacted us several times to try and get us to use their own overpriced online fulfillment system, to which we declined. With that settled and our regular flea and tick ordered elsewhere, the next appointment we tried to schedule to have our dog in, they responded that they would not treat our dog and we will need to find a new vet. They claimed it was because of something that was said during the prescription appointment. I casually talked about my frustration of waiting 3 weeks to get a prescription but was never rude or out of hand. It's clearly because we have decided to fulfill prescriptions elsewhere and not pay their ridiculous prices. Be warned, friendly staff but it seems they care more about the $$ then treating their customers and patients with respect. read more

I 100% recommend this clinic. My doggo was feeling pretty bad so I went to check them out based on a recommendation from a friend. The other notable thing is the Vet took time explaining the different testing options and making sure all of my questions and concerns were addressed. Dom is feeling so much better!!!! read more

Absolutely wonderful veterinarian and assisting staff. I have a very reactive dog who is not fond of strangers. Vet appointments can be very stressful for him and everyone else involved. The staff has been so accommodating in finding the best way for my malinois to be successful at his appointments. My other pup loves going to the vet as the staff are always ready with cheese and whipped cream to keep things positive. I also appreciate how thorough and thoughtful their exams are. My dog went in for an eye problem and the veterinarian caught a small lump that was growing in his chest area. The pricing can be a bit high, but you're paying for quality care and a positive experience for your pet. That's so important to me which is why I love Barlow Trail! read more

If I could leave 0 stars, I would. I don't leave reviews but I can't hold my tongue this time around. THIS IS THE WORST vet clinic I've ever had to deal with. 1. When my dog first came to get checked out for having yeasty skin, the vet didn't touch him and was acting grossed out and was telling me to move him around and pick him up so he could look at him. Even the assistant apologized for the vets behavior and said that he's new. Then They gave my dog an injection that made him extremely sick and we almost lost him. 2. Called and got my pets prescription number and such to order the spray my dog needed from an online pharmacy (since the office charges close to 50 bucks to get it, vs 10 dollars online ) they CONFIRMED i have a refill, and gave me the info. Couple days later, I Recieved a phone call from the pharmacy I ordered from saying the vet rejected it. When I called in I was told I didn't have any refills and that I needed to come in. this place is a money hungry joke. Take your pets to a clinic that actually puts their health care needs first rather than treating you like a paycheck. read more

After a month wait the first appointment for our dog was cancelled the day of the appointment because the vet was sick. OK, no problem, we waited another month. The day of the next appointment we get snow and part of a tree falls on the 2 mile gravel road to my home, so I call them to reschedule and they charge me an $80 deposit for cancelling within 24 hours. I told them about the road issues and they didn't care. So if they have an issue it is OK to cancel on me, but if I have an issue I can't control I lose my deposit. Their total lack of understanding and consideration is ridiculous! I even offered to split the deposit and they said no.If this is how they are about appointments I don't want them anywhere near my dog! read more

Very pleased with Barlow Trail Vet Clinic. They send out automated reminders, respond quickly to any questions, very punctual in keeping to appointment times, friendly and most knowledgeable regarding both of our dogs. Our first visit they did not seem to be very busy, but our second trip they were busy, but organized in seeing the patients and their family members within the time frame of our appointment. My wife and I have been clients of Barlow trail for over 30 years. Back when they had a large animal practice they were at our place at least three times a year. They have been the only vet any of our pets have known for the last 30 plus years. About five years ago we noticed a change in the way they started to focus more on money than the patient. This was shown in a very real way last august when our 17 year old Aussie Opie had a stoke and was in a very bad way. I had to lay on him to hold him down so he wouldn't hurt himself more. My wife called Barlow to tell them that we needed them and we were on our way. She was told they couldn't help us and we would have to go elsewhere. We had to call around in a panic to find help and found a vet with the compassion to meet us in his parking lot and help Opie. What we have found is that Barlow will take your money but they will fail you when you need them most. Mike Mills read more

I had to break up with my last vet of 15 years after they sold to a major chain. I was nervous about finding a new vet and was really impressed with all of the staff at Barlow.
