Stopped in for dinner. Nice setting, good atmosphere. Will review the dinner.

It's difficult to accurately review at this time due to the COVID situation. But, I can cover the basics that should be expected if an establishment decides to open their doors. We had two rooms for four people. Both rooms carried an odor of stale smoke and were musty. Both bathrooms were a bit dirty, with hair on the bathroom floor and in the tubs. One AC unit was either on, or off. No thermostatic control. There was also an almost constant smell of Marijuana in the hallways - it is legal for recreational use in Wisconsin. The bar and restaurant were open. Service was very slow, but the had very few staff on - I'm sure due to COVID restrictions. Food was decent. But a bit overpriced for quality and quantity. It's a really nice location. Nearby marina if you fish or have a boat to bring. I will still give them another try when things get back to normal. I think back in the day the Inn was probably considered luxurious. It's a bit on the outdated side now.

Abandon all hope ye who enter.

I always knew that this Hampton Inn was in Wisconsin, and chose it because it was the cheapest deal I could find at the time. And no, I'm not sure why Duluth hotel properties are so relatively expensive. We found the Hotel relatively easy to find, although the adjacent building/road construction made the directions (and turns) a little more challenging. Getting back into Duluth Minnesota (for Dinner later) was fairly easy and port/lake scenic. If there's a next time, I'll continue up the North Shore and make my stop more that a one night visit. The Hampton property reflects the modern refurbishments within the chain, which I found clean, comfortable and welcoming. Upon check-in, the most important tasks were: 1. Shower (!) 2. Change into Clean Clothes (Yes, the ride down from Ely was a little "ripe") 3. Separate and Pack Up the "Canoe Clothes" 4. Make Dinner Reservations (Grandma's) 5. Chat with Gayle again (the first call upon return from the Lake) I also got a good night sleep, enjoyed the free hot breakfast (and friendly staff) in the morning, and hung out with Bob/Bird and Jeff before we all went our separate ways.

We were traveling with our cat, and finding a pet-friendly hotel that was also cat-friendly was a challenge. We were so happy to find the Bridgeview; from the moment I called to make our reservation, it was a good experience. Kathy at the front desk is a GEM; she made our reservation for us, and was so friendly and welcoming that we knew we'd made the right decision. She was at the front desk when we checked in, and helped us out with restaurant recommendations and some information about the area. She had worked very hard to find just the right room for us: first floor near an outside door (for easy load in and out), away from the pool (which could get noisy), and toward the back of the hotel (away from the main street). We really appreciate her attending to our requests so thoroughly! The hotel layout radiates into wings, so a map to guide our steps back and forth from the common areas was very helpful. The layout also allows for parking that is literally steps from the nearest outside door. Each door is labeled with a letter of the alphabet, so you can't get lost. Our room was clean and comfortably sized for our needs, with two queen beds, a bureau, work desk, microwave and refrigerator and flat-screen TV. In addition to the office chair, there was an upholstered chair (that our cat immediately took possession of). The toilet and tub/shower were separate from the sink and closet area (in the European model), which was very helpful when getting ready in the mornings. One thing we missed was an inset soap dish and/or ledge for our toiletries in the shower. I spoke with the hotel manager during our check-out, and recommended they investigate soap dish/ledge options which can be incorporated into the tile surround of the shower. This would be a definite boon for travelers. Having an inset soap dish at the sink would also be very helpful. The location of our room was fairly quiet, although we could hear our neighbor's TV/music at times through the wall and any higher levels of noise in the hall. The bed was very comfortable, and there was a selection of pillows to choose from for a good night's sleep. In addition to Kathy, we appreciated Danica at the front desk, who, with a smile, took care of so many questions and requests during our stay. Tina in the breakfast room was the soul of hospitality, always greeting us in the morning and working hard to ensure that all the breakfast items were fresh and in plentiful supply. Every staff member we spoke with was very polite and kind. Breakfast was a full hotel breakfast; in addition to beverages, cereals, breads, pastries, and fresh fruit, they offered egg dishes, breakfast meat (bacon and sausage alternated), and make-your-own waffles. The location of the hotel was ideal for our exploration of the area; it's situated just one block from the I-535 bridge crossing over to Duluth, and right on Hammond Street for easy access to Superior's downtown area with shops, restaurants and bars. Despite its downtown location, the area appeared quite safe and was well-lit; while we were there, we saw many patrons on the streets and sidewalks. The indoor pool was centrally located; we didn't get a chance to use it, but it always appeared clean and the surrounding area was kept tidy. There was also a jacuzzi and plenty of pool-side seating. The exercise area was sufficient for our needs; they had an elliptical trainer, treadmill, stationary bicycle, and standing weight machine as well as free weights available. The hotel has a business area which offers two terminals for internet access, connected to a printer. The entire hotel is wi-fi accessible and the service is free; it is a secure network with a password. Another recommendation would be to install at least one public bathroom in the hotel common area, so that guests would not have to return to their rooms to use the facilities. This is an older hotel, and some patrons may notice some dated design, but the carpets and furniture are newer and clean. The nautical elements are delightful, from the tugboat-turned-gift-shop to the portholes, ships' wheels, and other boating memorabilia tastefully displayed. If you're traveling to the Duluth-Superior area and are interested in a homey, mid-range hotel, the Bridgeview is for you! We'll definitely make reservations here the next time we return to the region.

I can speak and offer opinions with particularity and knowledge about hospitality. Unfortunately, lately, service and attention to detail have declined significantly. Perhaps due to cutting corners and not giving travelers what they deserve. Remember, people look for that little corner that somehow makes them feel close to home. I was very surprised and delighted to find this place. I didn't expect such personalized, friendly, and professional service. When I checked into the condo, I was pleasantly surprised. Large, comfortable, well-appointed, and with very tasteful details in the decor. Very well thought out. The privacy of the unit (305B) is excellent. The kitchenware and utensils are of very high quality. But the most important thing is the cleanliness and hygiene. A very rare bird, or Rara Avis, to find. I hope they continue like this. Especially with the bedding and towels. I wish them the best. Just one detail. They should have at least one unit with a shower for disabled guests, not for me, but for other people. Thank you.
