Hiked up and across, ate the lunch we'd brought at one of the umbrella'ed tables near the playground, and then the skies opened up; drove back to Manhattan on an almost flooded Bronx River Parkway. Grandson back for a visit this year, wanted to go back! Zipcar got more expensive, so I followed the directions on their website using public transportation. DON'T! The website says take Metronorth to White Plains and then a Bee-line bus, #6, to the Dam Plaza. We found the bus stop, and the schedule said 11:43. Perfect, right? Not. 12:43 came and went. Other buses came and went. The #6 never showed up, so finally we took a taxi for $20.00. Took 10 minutes to get there. Better to take a train to Valhalla and walk the less than a mile or Uber for 8.95 or something like that. Watch the schedule for going back to Grand Central, because in the afternoon it seems to run just once an hour. Plan accordingly. Otherwise we had a good time.

I'm hoping to move back to Westchester for a job, and now with my dog in tow, and a big dog park fan, went in search of some good ones. I was getting discouraged until I found a website that lists all of Westchester's dog parks -- http://www.animal-link.org/parks.shtml -- and the one in Ossining looked interesting, so finally decided to try it out. I have been to dog parks in LA, SF, Vegas, and all over Central Florida and this is definitely in the Top 3. It is on the grounds of a very rustic park -- the dog park is way up the hill, set aside, secluded, amongst forest. It is very quiet, woodsy, peaceful, and whomever designed it really did so with dogs in mind (you'd be surprised at how many dog parks are just slapped together with no forethought whatsoever). It has those great wood chips on the ground, a doggie drinking fountain, plenty of poop bag stations, chairs, doggie "playground" items, a big boulder to climb on, and, very important to me, a sloping landscape, which is great for the dogs exercise-wise. And, not the least: not only are the dogs all great, all the people I met are wonderful, which is not always the case at these places. I heard this place is very popular -- one regular travels all the way from Eastchester! -- even in the winter. Thank you City Of Ossining and others for having the good judgment to have a great dog park. They "get it." A lot of cities, all they think of is the hassle of the dog park -- but GOOD dog parks bring people from all around, and many times that means bringing consumer dollars to the community.

This park is SO lovely. While there we saw ducks, frogs, goats... Some took the train from Manhattan and an Uber to the park from there. If you drive it is only $6 to park. There are restrooms and water fountains in the main parking lot. Bring a bag to keep any garbage! In this park there are no trash cans, you take out what you bring in.

There are chairs and benches for dog owners to hang out on, doggy bags (they're usually stocked but as I write this review, this is the first time it's not stocked), water bowls, pool tubs for the dogs, and a hose to fill the pool and water bowls. There's enough parking and there's a playground right across. As for the dog owners, there's always an issue on the larger dog side. The owners don't really pay attention to their dogs and a fight breaks out. Not too many people take responsibility. The smaller dog side is great, though. Everyone gets along and the owners are more responsible than the larger dog side (maybe because the land area is so much bigger than the small dog side). Either way, it's conveniently located near home.
