This is a long overdue review. Also, I think this is more like a thank-you letter to Jen than a…read morereview. As many others have stated, Jen is amazing. Our dog, Shaka, just loved spending time with her and the other pups she cared for. We were a little worried at first about his temperament being around others (humans and other animals) since he gets a little skittish, but he seemed to thrive there. When it was pick-up time, he was always happy and seemed to sleep very well from getting his exercise and socialize in. (He also smelled great on his longer stays. Thank you for the baths!) Jen is super flexible and communicative. We were so appreciative of this since we tend be rather spontaneous and would ask to drop him off the day before sometimes. We also would extend his stay last minute, for example, when we were taking road trips and wanted to stop for the night instead of driving all the way through a town. (Sorry and thank you so much, Jen!) Shaka has stayed over from one day to two weeks (possibly more), and each time, we've received text updates from her and even pictures of him happy with his friends. I always looked forward to those. Shaka passed away early last year, and I've been meaning to write this for a long time to say, "Thank you, Jen!" for being such a wonderful caregiver and trustworthy and friendly person overall. Dog parents, I 1000% recommend Jen.

I'm posting this now after reflecting on my dog's daycare history over the years, as this was the…read moreonly facility where we had a negative experience. Several years ago, I brought my dog here for daycare. During one drop-off, as I was about to drive off, he was able to bolt out of the facility and ran across the parking lot (in the dark!). Thankfully, a passerby caught him quickly and he was not injured, but this raised serious concerns about supervision and containment during handoff. After that incident, I continued bringing him back to use up pre-paid passes. From that point on, he always refused to leave the car-which made me concerned. Staff later told me he had developed a humping habit and said that if it continued, he would not be able to return. This was difficult to reconcile with what we experienced elsewhere. After we finished our passes, we used another daycare in Beaverton, where he had no issues. Since then, we've moved states a few times and gone to multiple other daycares in different locations, and he has consistently done well without any behavioral concerns. I understand that staff and policies can change over time, so this may not reflect the current operation. However, I think it's important to share past experiences related to safety and how dogs are handled following a stressful incident.

It was during Christmas so it was decorated like a doggy Winter Wonderland. I originally got a tour of the place and was impressed and liked it and how they run it. I was told that the they try to take the dogs out in the grass 5-6 times a day by Sarah, but Susie let me know they don't let the dogs play together for safety reasons, which makes sense. I was a bit bummed about no puppies playing together but that wasn't a deal breaker for me. Sarah and her husband were so nice at check in and made sure my puppy was comfortable with them before taking her back. I was able to call throughout the day to check on our puppy,no problem, and Susie even called me with updates and before they closed for the night, which I super appreciated and felt more ease. Susie made an executive decision to move our puppy from a large room to a suite bc she felt our puppy would do better alone and it looks like she did. She switched her at no extra charge which was very sweet of her. Susie kept checking on our puppy and spent time with her to make her more comfortable and our puppy really took to her! I love that they care about each dog there and do what's best for them. I will definitely be bringing our puppy back and even once a month just for fun so she gets more used to the place! Highly recommend!

However, the employees had exactly the right vibe for her because she went to them immediately and don't look back. The facility is clean and she was obviously well cared for. They didn't even think it strange when we packed a chewed slipper for a favorite toy- they knew what to expect from this precocious breed. We won't hesitate to bring her back when we go on another trip. A+++

After a few times here she did not even hesitate to run into the back without a glance back at me! What I like: 1. Great staff - my dog is a good judge of people and and she loves the staff 2. I was traveling in Japan and left my 8 year old Labradoodle, Izzy at Howliday Inn. She had stayed…read morethere many times before. Unlike many other doggie daycares, Howliday Inn does not have the option to log into a webcam livestream to check on your dog. Furthermore, when you drop off and pickup your dog you never even see the environment where the dog stays. You wait in the lobby while they go behind closed doors and get your dog. I always thought that was a bit strange but I didn't see any other red flags. Well, this time I got a text from my son informing me that he had to go get Izzy. He got a phone call and they told him Izzy got in a fight with another dog and had to leave. This was shocking, as Izzy had never been in a fight or hurt another dog or person in her entire life. My son told me the other dog had to be taken to the vet, and Dylan, (the owner of Howliday Inn) wanted to speak to me in person after I returned from Japan to explain everything. I was shocked that they kicked Izzy out while I was on the other side of the planet, but I planned to deal with it after my trip. The next day I received an emailed invoice that simply said "Hi David, please find your latest attached invoice. Thanks, Dylan (Owner)" The invoice included $542 for veterinary care. Since my son had told me Dylan wanted to explain everything when I got back, I ignored the invoice. 2 days later (while he knew I was still in Japan) he reached out again by email to request immediate payment, and this time offered some details. According to him, the other dog was pawing at Izzy trying to get her to play and she didn't like it. She snapped at him, he snapped back, and Izzy then pinned him against a wall which resulted in "a small puncture wound" above his eye. Normally you don't got to the vet and get stitches for "a small puncture wound" but that's what they decided to do. Since my dog had NEVER been in a fight before, I have serious doubts about his account. I wonder if the dogs were even supervised. For all I know they found the other dog with an injury and picked someone to blame it on. I asked if they had video of the incident and of course the answer was no. While other facilities are so transparent they allow owners to log into a livestream, this place is so secretive you don't even get to see your dog's environment when you drop off or pick up. And they don't even have cameras to record in case an incident occurs. And if God forbid your dog does run afoul with them somehow while you are traveling they will call your emergency contact and tell them to come get your dog! Also, they forgot to give my dog's food to my son when he left his job to get her. This necessitated a return trip by my brother in law to get her food. The staff member he spoke with at that time told a very different story than the one I got from Dylan. That staff member said it was a "freak thing" that happened as Izzy and the other dog were trying to fit through a small passageway at the same time. Dylan has informed me that Izzy is no longer welcome at Howliday Inn and that's just fine with me because after this experience, I would never trust them again.

I only found out the next morning when I reviewed our front door camera footage and realized our dog had been alone since 7pm the night before. I had to leave a note in the app before anyone reached out to us. When the owner finally called to apologize, I asked why we weren't contacted as soon as the issue came up. His response was, "we're not open during those hours." I'm still not sure what that means for a pet care company. If you're taking responsibility for someone's pet overnight, there is no "closed." To his credit, the owner stepped in personally to cover the rest of the wknd, but by that point the damage was done. Our dog had been alone for over 12 hours. I don't even want to think about what would have happened if we didn't have exterior cameras or happen to check them that morning. We got lucky, and we shouldn't have had to be. The whole situation was incredibly stressful and affected our entire trip. The owner comped the one night, but charged full price for the rest of the wknd. Honestly, given everything that happened, I would have expected the whole stay to be taken care of. If you need a sitter you can count on, especially for overnight stays, I'd look elsewhere. Peace of mind is the whole point, and we didn't have it.
