I was having a struggle after Snookies (Jewels) passed. Every time I came home from work, I missed her smiling face and wagging tail. My coping mechanism... fostering a dog that way I wasn't making an impulsive decision and helping another animal. In return, I would come home to a loving angel. Since our dog struggles with being reactive and barking at new people, on our first appointment Derek came with a training harness. He also came with a meal plan to help get my dog healthier on the inside which would help her with her overall behavior. So we had started working with Derek in April of 2024. The first visit/consult was fine. Nice guy explained the benefits of good nutrition and we did some walking exercises. Generally fine. The issue is have is my dog is very dog reactive and is a 70lb German Shepard. Additionally over the year that we've had him hes become extremely protective of the home and aggressive towards guests. So here is where im very frustrated with Bark Busters: 1. I was told to walk him multiple times a day - unfortunately I do not have time to do a bunch of walks with him, AND we are in Vegas in the middle of summer, how? How am I supposed to walk him when it's 112F outside? 2. I was told to give him a job, but never really told what that means or how to do it... 3. I had to find a friend that was willing to bring their dog so we could try to work on dog reactivity together. We did it once. 4. When I explained we are not super social people and dont have a lot of friends, nor willing to put those friends at risk of being mauled, they told us to buy a Halloween mask (like the full on over the head Freddy or Micheal Myers mask) and stand menacing in the doorway... wtf?? I'd attack someone like that too, but when we did it (yes we actually did it) my dog is still a dog and is intelligent and could smell it was us. 5. The schedule, this was probably the worst of it for me. Yes I understand they are only able to help if we call them. But they did not give any sort of routine training. They just show up to help in that moment. And then expect you to call if needed. No I need an actual program. I do not know what im doing and for 2k I figured you'd be willing to come at minimum every month until resolved and then ad hoc as needed. When I tried to push for that I got push back. 6. Last the barking and growling, like I guess I get it in theory, they are basing it off how dogs communicate with each other. But one im not a dog and two I know dogs can understand the inflection of our words and tones, why I need to growl at him. Made me uncomfortable. I Last spoke with Derek around Oct where he told me they were going on a trip to Mexico and would be able to help when they got back and I never heard from them. Im looking into other trainers and frustrated I wasted 2 grand as aggression behavior training is not cheap. read more

A few months back while looking for a trainer primarily in training my chihuahua to use a doggie treadmill, prior to speaking with Bark Busters, I thought I had found the right trainer. However, that was not the case. So today I spoke with Lucas at Bark Busters and he was most knowledgeable and very courteous. Due to other commitments right now, I'll arrange an appointment for consultation sometime next month. This company seems very sincere and much more interested in the mental health of animals than rigid one-size-fits-all type of training. I learned of Bark Busters through my mom who had adopted a Chihuahua about a year ago. I was impressed at how much Buddy improved through Lisette's training and the tools she gave my mom. But then there's my dog. I rescued little Justice (also a Chi) in September 2018. He had been brutally attacked -probably by another dog- and was rescued from a high kill shelter in San Bernardino. For six weeks he was in foster care healing from his serious wounds. Due to his trauma I didn't want to enforce any rules. I didn't want to hurt him by pulling on the leash or really dominate him in any way. You can imagine where this is going... So nearly four years later my dog has developed an OCD behavior where he literally eats anything--indoors or outdoors--roams about the apartment appearing stressed or starving, and all of this making so much anxiety for me. We have had too many emergency vet visits to count. Close calls where he has eaten sego palm, etc. About a month ago I couldn't take anymore. My vet here in LA where I live said there was nothing I could do. This is just how Justice will always be. Totally in despair, I asked my mother if I could get in contact with Lisette. I figured maybe if he got training it would help a little. I didn't have much hope but thought it would be a last ditch effort. Well, upon my first appointment with Lisette, she assured me the numerous muzzles I had bought for Justice would not be necessary. She said by ME being a leader, this would completely change the dynamic between Justice and I. She listed a few different reasons why he has been eating everything, 1) his diet, 2) my lack of leadership and therefore his insecurity, and 3) trauma from before. We dove into the training! Wow. I'll be honest it was really hard at first. I was really scared I would hurt him. I was also pretty uncertain this was going to work. Literally from the first time she walked him outside and then taught me how to walk him with the Bark Busters harness, the behavior stopped. Stopped! Here's the thing: you have to do the work. You have to be consistent. But Lisette is amazing. She breaks everything down, supplies you with everything you need (videos, harness, accessories), and is very accessible/communicative. This program has changed my dog and I am thrilled. My stress level is down, Justice's stress level is down. It is all around amazing. I realize this is a long review but it is for a good reason. Please do yourself a favor: if your dog is having behavioral issues--or even if they aren't yet--learn how to take care of them well. That is what they deserve. It isn't true that you can't teach an old dog new tricks, you can. I was probably the one who was more unteachable lol. But in the end this training is helping my dog and me so much. Can't recommend. Yes they know thier dog training stuff BUT that comes with two huge downsides with bark busters. There is always turnover and they are horrible at scheduling. I'm a $1,600 private client and I have never once been able to get a date and time that works well for me. Even when I ask three weeks in advanced. Secondly, the appointments are necessarily Long. 4+ hours. You have to listen and go through the whole schpeal whether or not it relates to your dog! My dog is a trained service dog (trained elsewhere) when I hired bark busters to help with one thing1 separation anxiety- they made me go through walking and leash training etc. my dog doesn't need any of that!! They tried to get me to change his walking harness give my dog oils every day. Stuff that has nothing to do with why I hired them! Just not worth the hassle. I've complained every time I have scheduling issues and when they settle on a date and time, within days I'll get a series of calls and texts that they can't hold that date anymore I need to change it. They even called and texted me multiple times on a federal Holiday. Save yourself the time and money and find someone better established. read more

These are not trainers for large dogs with behavioural problems. Period. I was previously asked to take my rating down, because posting a negative review on Yelp was the only way to get these trainers to actually help. I have never been so insulted in my life, with the way I am mocked and insulted and left with information that I apply, and does not change the problem I brought to them in the first place. I have completely transformed my dogs' diets. My work day has been completely readjusted around short, frequent walks for the dogs. I have gone from martingale collars to hermsperingers to vibration collars to spray bottles and everything in between. I have done everything they asked, but none of it has affected the behavioural problems I asked them about in the first place. I do not believe they even care; the level of dismissal and mockery in their voices left me terrified to even speak to another trainer. I did everything they asked and more, but I was always doing it wrong. Everything I do is wrong, and they only made sure to reinforce that. I want everyone to know that these are not good trainers for dogs with real problems. Insulted and defeated for the second time by their dismissal of me and my cries for help (after all, they already got my $2100), I am reposting this and I refuse to take it down again. If you have a large dog with behavioural problems, do not call Barkbusters. You will be given a stack of papers, maybe a spray bottle and a nutritional list, and absolutely no assistance in training because they don't know what they're doing. They pull on dogs with oversized harnesses, when that dog wants to pull; they obsess over using water bottles and water bombs for distracting dogs even when it has absolutely no effect _when they're doing it_. They will open your fridge and cabinets without asking and judge you for the contents of them, and when you call for help they will laugh off whatever you ask about because they don't care about you or your dog. They got their money and they will make zero effort to even plan the second session with you, unless you post on Yelp about how worthless they are as trainers. read more
