Can't recommend. Yes they know thier dog training stuff BUT that comes with two huge downsides with bark busters. There is always turnover and they are horrible at scheduling. I'm a $1,600 private client and I have never once been able to get a date and time that works well for me. Even when I ask three weeks in advanced. Secondly, the appointments are necessarily Long. 4+ hours. You have to listen and go through the whole schpeal whether or not it relates to your dog! My dog is a trained service dog (trained elsewhere) when I hired bark busters to help with one thing1 separation anxiety- they made me go through walking and leash training etc. my dog doesn't need any of that!! They tried to get me to change his walking harness give my dog oils every day. Stuff that has nothing to do with why I hired them! Just not worth the hassle. I've complained every time I have scheduling issues and when they settle on a date and time, within days I'll get a series of calls and texts that they can't hold that date anymore I need to change it. They even called and texted me multiple times on a federal Holiday. Save yourself the time and money and find someone better established. read more

These are not trainers for large dogs with behavioural problems. Period. I was previously asked to take my rating down, because posting a negative review on Yelp was the only way to get these trainers to actually help. I have never been so insulted in my life, with the way I am mocked and insulted and left with information that I apply, and does not change the problem I brought to them in the first place. I have completely transformed my dogs' diets. My work day has been completely readjusted around short, frequent walks for the dogs. I have gone from martingale collars to hermsperingers to vibration collars to spray bottles and everything in between. I have done everything they asked, but none of it has affected the behavioural problems I asked them about in the first place. I do not believe they even care; the level of dismissal and mockery in their voices left me terrified to even speak to another trainer. I did everything they asked and more, but I was always doing it wrong. Everything I do is wrong, and they only made sure to reinforce that. I want everyone to know that these are not good trainers for dogs with real problems. Insulted and defeated for the second time by their dismissal of me and my cries for help (after all, they already got my $2100), I am reposting this and I refuse to take it down again. If you have a large dog with behavioural problems, do not call Barkbusters. You will be given a stack of papers, maybe a spray bottle and a nutritional list, and absolutely no assistance in training because they don't know what they're doing. They pull on dogs with oversized harnesses, when that dog wants to pull; they obsess over using water bottles and water bombs for distracting dogs even when it has absolutely no effect _when they're doing it_. They will open your fridge and cabinets without asking and judge you for the contents of them, and when you call for help they will laugh off whatever you ask about because they don't care about you or your dog. They got their money and they will make zero effort to even plan the second session with you, unless you post on Yelp about how worthless they are as trainers. read more

I have two 1 1/2 year old German Shepherd Doberman mixes. With their breeds I had signed them up to start training when they were 4 months old. I felt it was important as I have a disability and they could very easily overpower me as they got older if they were not trained properly. This training program used collars as their method. They did 3 in-home training sessions and then offered a year of group classes. They had classes 4 times a week. My dogs were brought to every class for 4 months. They learned basic commands and were better at listening. However, I became more hesitant of this method as time went on because it became clear they were afraid of the remote to their collar. I'd pick up their remote to move it and they'd immediately hide. Then their collars broke and I learned that they didn't listen to me but rather their collars. The manufacturer took months to replace their collars. During this timeframe my dogs were misbehaving, not listening, and went back to old habits of theirs. At that point I decided to find an alternative route for training as I didn't want to rely on a collar and remote. It was very easy to set up an appointment. After spending almost $3,000 on the other training program, my family didn't have all of the funds up front. However, a payment plan was set up which has helped tremendously. The team was responsive and really understood the concerns that my family had leading up to the initial visit. The first visit was booked within less than a week which was very impressive. The quick and seamless set up process left a good first impression. Now comes the first visit. Derek was super friendly from the start and you could tell that he truly loved what he did. He was super knowledgeable and gave my family and I plenty of information regarding the dogs. He also gave us information on a facility that could help the medical issues my family suffers from. He didn't have to go out of his way to tell us about this facility but he did because he truly is a person who cares. When it comes to the dogs the visit exceeded my expectations. The dogs responded very well to these methods and it was very refreshing to have them listening again. The methods worked so well our dogs made my family and I look like we were being dramatic when it came to the bad behaviors we listed. One of my dogs Scout started showing aggression as he got older. I brought this up to the trainers at the other training company right when the signs first appeared. I was told that aggression could not be trained out of dogs or him. The trainers said it was his breeds and nothing could be done about it. I wasn't very excepting of this response and brought it up multiple training sessions. I was always told the same thing. His aggression progressed to the point where I had to muzzle him in public for his safety and others. This wasn't a point I wanted to get to and I did want it addressed early on. After deciding to seek another training route we went to another training company before Bark Busters. The trainers there gave Scout 2 days before they said his aggression wasn't something that could be addressed. It was very disheartening that everyone was giving up on my boy when he really was a good and happy dog. He is just fearful of those outside his pack and that causes him to be aggressive. Derek is not giving up on him and I can't tell you how much of a relief that is. He was so good with Scout that by the end of everything Scout didn't have to be muzzled. There were even points where Scout thought maybe he could go say hi to him. After only 1 session I can already tell this program is going to do wonders for my dogs. I'm super hopeful I'll be able to get them where they need to be with the tools and guidance provided by Derek and consistency on my end. 100% would recommend Derek and Lisette to everyone that owns dogs and has any issue they wanna work on. Yes its a tad bit pricier than most but we all know "ya get what ya pay for" and I prefer to not skimp out when it comes to my FurBabies and I believe this was the only place I found that will continue to train your dogs for the rest of their lives and if you move to another state that has a barkbuster, you can ask always have them train your dogs too. With that being said- everything they have showed me has worked 100% so I am confident in their skills for sure! But of course, training requires consistency on our part and is very time consuming, & the trainers see you for about an hour each visit..once every week or every few weeks it seemed depending on progress of training. I actually have 3 large labradoodles and I'm a single mom to a toddler so it has been extremely hard to take all the extra time to attempt the exercises needed for training, one by one, since I have 3 dogs with 3 different personalities and a whole bunch of other unexpected circumstances going on. So I'd say if you have multiple dogs, and they are wild puppies and you don't have much time-send them to a training camp for a month or 2 instead- otherwise you literally will be training your dog for the rest of their lives. O_O The good thing is Barkbuster is 100% there for the rest of their lives! Lol.! I have called Derek multiple times within the past year with new issues and questions and he's always so quick to respond and call me and take the time to give me tips on what to do etc. He's great. So is lisette! I literally just cannot commit to doing the trainings daily for hours everyday etc and that's my fault, not theirs. Also, they are so knowledgeable about nutrition and vet related issues for puppies, the best foods for your dog/s. Learned A LOT. I used this firm about three years ago. Their system of dog training did not work with my dogs. I wanted my dogs to walk without pulling and one to stop jumping. There were paid a lot of money and I put in many, many hours trying to get my dogs better behaved. Sometimes there would be some small improvement, but that improvement soon went away. I worked with them for perhaps eight months or so and the dogs saw no overall improvement. After these eight months, I wrote a review saying about what you see here. I was contacted and was begged to remove the review. They promised to come back and work with me until both dogs would walk calmly and one would stop jumping. I removed the review and they came back one more time and that was the last I heard from them. Please be sure you understand that what they do might not work. They were more concerned with not having a negative review than getting some modest improvement from my dogs. After posting this review they got back to me again. They now have a new piece of equipment that stops the dog from pulling. After another training session, this new equipment is having a very positive effect. We discussed communication for future sessions. Hopefully things will go better going forward and both dogs will improve their behavior. read more

Derek and his wife are genuinely good people. They take a more in-depth approach to dog care. They will communicate with you if you are having issues. They make nutritional suggestions, suggestions for dog proofing home, and suggestions for treats etc. The reason I am not giving 5 stars is because dominance theory has largely been debunked as an effective training tool. That's not to say you won't get results, but I noticed my dog wasn't really responsive to the "BAH"noise and she actually enjoyed getting sprayed in the face with water. She was also starting to get more aggressive and was beginning to resource guard. We have a ShInu and based on my research and speaking with a ton of other Shiba Inu owners; alpha dog theory simply will not work with them. Since going to a more traditional positive association training approach she knows sit, down, focus, off, stay, go to your spot, and she walks better. It took about 3-4 days to get her to trust me again and another week for her to learn the aforementioned items; opposed to the alpha dog method in which she didn't really learn one thing after 8-10 weeks of attempts. It should be noted that bark busters DOES encourage you to reward the dog with praise after they do something well, so it's not a total alpha dog type training. My fundamental issue was just with the training philosophy; and how non adaptable it was. It simply was not effective with my dog. When you pay a large sum of money you expect training modifications and adjustments and more breed specific type training and it was just very rigid. Since abandoning their training my dog has stopped resource guarding, stop play nipping, and she is generally more relaxed and happy. I don't doubt that their methods do work and are effective, but one should exercise caution as there is a plethora of information out there which shows alpha dog theory can be largely ineffective and just cause your pup to live in fear of you; which is no way for a dog to view its owner. I wouldn't discourage using them, but I would make sure your pup is compatible with this type of training. read more

Just called to get info on thier training sessions they definitely need better communication and customer skills. Thier rule of all dogs in house need to take training sessions is unfortunately not an option to me. Being that some dogs in the house arnt mine and don't interact. I mentioned this an asked if thier were alternatives, instead of a simple, "no, that's our rule, we can't help, goodbye.." As I do understand thier reasons for that rule. Thier response was to rudly lecture me with.... "well we won't be able to help you, an if you really wanted to fix the issue....ect ect". I explained im living with others in a house I am not able to grab dogs that are not mine,, nor willing to pay or have the funds for training of 2 other WELL BEHAVED dogs that aren't mine. We've had them help us with a variety of obedience related issues for both our puppies and every time they show us how to instill a sense of respect that dogs don't necessarily have for their owners. Dogs are amazing animals that are great companions, but they need training to learn how to behave. And we humans need training to understand how to properly communicate with our furry friends. If they aren't properly trained they can exhibit problematic behaviors and they wind up being blamed for these behaviors. But as Derek and Lisette teach us, it's not the dog's fault, it is the owner's failure to teach proper behavior and boundaries. As first time dog owners of a French Bulldog and and English Bulldog, we've had quite a bit of a learning curve. We rescued our 8 year old miniature Dachshund, Gusto, 5 years ago. He has always had anxiety based aggression: non-stop barking, running around the house, has bitten my husband and more friends then I'd care to share, couldn't ride in the car without screaming and scrambling and was insanely protective of me. I can't recommend Bark Busters enough. My girlfriend and I have two medium to large sized dogs (a pitbull mix and a Belgian Malinois). When we tried to introduce them on our own they did not get along at all--were very aggressive and tried to attack each other through the fence constantly . We were moving in together and needed the dogs to get along in the new house. We called Bark Busters and Derek showed us different training techniques and put us on a 5 week regimen. We could not be happier with all the improvements we have seen in our pup since our first training session. We have only had two lessons and already or dog has made great improvements! At first the thought of speaking dog sounded silly, but this in combination of immediate praise works! Keep in mind, you have to follow through with everything that is taught and I was advised 15 minutes a day after my inital session. For a service that cost me over $1200, I expected better. Don't get me wrong, a good amount of the information that was given to me was very useful and has made a difference with my pet. However, my trainer never introduced himself, wasn't wearing a mask when he arrived and kept taking the mask off when I asked him to wear one (I work in a nursing home, and I wore a mask the entire time.) I was told that the appointment would take 3 hours, but he was in and out in 1 hour 45 min because he rushed through everything, seemed extremely anxious and jittery and honestly made me feel uncomfortable. He texted me dozens of links to various expensive toys or foods or accessories that I can't afford (especially after the hefty price tag of dog training). I understand that I paid for a lifetime of dog training, but I don't want the trainer back in my house or in my presence again. read more

I am Very Happy with the Quality of Service and Professional Training. The Owners/Trainers are a Husband and Wife couple, Derek and Lissette. I called several different Trainers. Derek spent a full 20 minutes on the phone listening and understanding my needs before the first lesson or payment. Lissette helped give us the tools to work with our rescues. They don't train your dogs. They train you to train them. It does require following the exercises and daily practice, but the benefits we have seen so far have been excellent. Derek is the man! Super cool guy and fun to hang out with; it's really easy to develop a good relationship with him and feel comfortable with him helping you with your furry child. Clearly very experienced with dogs, he came in and started coaching us on how to get Kingston to listen right away. He was able to guide my wife a lot who's never raised a dog before to get some roots down, and has been super helpful with me as well even though I've raised a couple of dogs already. He has both beginner and expert advice. I was really impressed with how their package is a lifetime value. If you are dedicated to your dog being extremely well trained like we are that really is a great value. Seems super cool to me that they do that. Derek has made himself extremely available to both my wife and myself since day one and is very responsive to our questions and requests for help. I consider Derek a friend and would recommend him to anyone and already have to a close friend who's getting a puppy in the next few months. We recently lost our amazing, well trained dog after 14 years to cancer. Heartbroken, we bought a new Havanese puppy. Our 10 week old puppy desperately needed some training. Bark busters responded immediately. They were extremely knowledgeable and friendly over the phone. Our first lesson was the other night. They stayed for an hour and a half helping us and answering all of our questions. We have been doing homework for the last 5 days and our puppy, Napa is responding very well.
