It was Tuesday, and we were glad to learn that they were open. Many businesses in the Paso Robles region are only open Thursdays through Sundays. While it wasn't crowded at all when we were there, other guests came through while we were there. The pastoral country setting is a wonderful complement to sitting outside under the shelter of one of their open-sided but roofed patio areas. Lizzie took great care of us - providing the story and attributes of their various olive oils and balsamic vinegar offerings. Served with fresh bread to dip, it was a great little taste treat experience without being too heavy. There are three different flights to choose from when it comes to the back half of the tasting menu, getting into the vinegars and seasonings like truffle salt. We experienced the healthful tickle of resveratrol in some of their heartier oils, and many yummy flavor enhancements overall. Our Sweet Granddaughter did try some of the olive oil, but it's not her speed (yet), so she was happy to have some gourmet chocolate gelato from their freezer case. There is a tasting fee, but it can be waived by joining their club which offers three shipments annually. Our sister-in-law decided to sign up, so the whole group was comped on the tasting. Dear Hubby and I bought one olive oil and one balsamic and we're ready to up our healthy snacking options. This was my first time at this location, and it is such a cool space! The tri tip sandwich and fries were, of course, delicious as ever. They have a full bar, a butcher counter, a charcuterie counter, a coffee & pastry counter, a shop full of fun assorted items from art to clothing, and ample seating areas with curated vibes. It is truly a one stop shop for anything you could want. It was neat to see it full of folks hanging out in the various seating areas. I was still able to find a spot with ease which was conducive to taking a work video call. The only challenge I had was not eating my food in too ferocious of a manner mid call, and if you've had their tri tip, you know this was a true challenge. lol I look forward to the next time I'm driving through, so I can stop by again!

Today I decided to stop to see what it was all about. They make their cheeses here and you can see the machinery behind the glass near the cheese section of the gift shop. They also sell lots of nuts, dried fruits, candies and fudge. The gift shop is quite large and you are likely to find a gift for anyone you know here. The bathrooms were really clean and modern farm style in design. Right next to the gift shop is a restaurant that smells amazing. I ended up buying chocolate peanut butter cups as a gift. They were pricey but probably worth it.

However, sometimes when your family has been steeped in agriculture in other ways, it takes a current generation to move things into other arenas. Enzo is a prime example of this. The Richiutti family makes olive oil from their farms, not that far from where I grew up. Of course locality is but a part of the equation. It still has to taste good. A greenish golden colour is present to the eye but the palate has a smooth richness up front followed by a peppery kick. The profile is something you'd usually not cook with and use as a finishing oil on meats and vegetables that need some balance of fat. Though I did see someone use it in an olive oil cake which may lead to some experimentation. It's just hard to part with the fresh taste of a first press olive oil straight.
