What surprised me most was that the pastries weren't super sweet. A lot of cafés drown everything in sugar, but here you can actually taste the butter and the bake. Big plus for me. Fair warning, the line was long. But honestly that tells you something, locals don't wait in line for mediocre stuff. It was worth it. The coffee was really good too. Not sure about their beans, but it tasted fresh roasted, smooth and full of flavor. Went perfectly with the pastries. I'll be back for sure. 5 stars!

Located in the plaza next to Sonic. Small and cozy! Tables and chairs are available inside if you want to sit and enjoy. I browsed the savory and sweet baked goods in the display box and I loved that there weren't too many options because then I feel like I don't know what to get and this tells me they pour lots of attention and love into each recipe. I ordered a salt bread with cheese and jalapeno, this is my favorite item from the mexican bread markets, and I got 4 different pastries: berry custard type cup, a guava and cheese and this was the BEST one I have ever had in my life, an apple tart and the coffee cake. Oh my goodness, the flakey crust, the creamy filling, the fresh tart fruit, this is pure heaven. On the pricey side, so definitely a once in a while treat. I didn't try the beverages this time but they have a great selection of cofee and tea. The employees are so nice! Lots of smiles and welcoming faces. Come here!

What else to say about Chaupain, except it's always exceptional?…read more I'm biased - but their pastries have got to be the best in OC. This is the 3rd Chaupain location I've been to, I happened to be in the area. It's smaller than the one on La Paz in LN to be sure, but ample size enough to provide anyone with full tastes of their amazing goods. I like everything - I've tried nearly all of their pastries and cakes, this time I tried the cinnamon roll- which was insanely good, soft, and tasted of such quality. Actually - never tried their quiche, which is certainly on a bucket list for next time. I highly recommend everything they have - but just to name a new, the guava cream cheese, cinnamon cream cheese, mixed berry bateau, opera cake, vanilla scone, any of their croissants, lemon tiramisu, and the jamon sandwich is incredible - I love that the bread had a chewy texture, which is perfect for this sandwich. Adding any of the American condiments would almost be a sacrilege, but a bit of dijon is good, which they have there in packets- the flavours work so well together. I really struggle to restrain myself when coming here, which necessary for your wallet and your waistline - but whatever you decided it's all good here. The customer service was also stellar - very friendly, helpful, and personable. Thank you !

My family loves the spinach cheese and mixed berry croissant. They have a variety of croissants, tarts, cakes, quiches, sandwiches - and entree items like French onion soup, and the sunrise sandwich which are both very good. The Laguna Hills branch is a very small storefront with some patio seating. The staff are always so polite and friendly!

I highly recommend stopping in and don't forget to take a few knock knocks to go! I only give four stars because they have removed the coconut knock knock and chocolate coconut croissant from their menu. Both items were elite (the coco knock being a staple of the scratch menu) and the sadness that has been caused by the removal of these items is unacceptable. Please deeply consider bringing back one if not both items. The scratch community will thank you!

A while back, Jen and I had stopped by after shopping at Trader Joes and vowed to come back. Today…read morewas the day. Stopped by around 11am and started by ordering breakfast. Jen went with the Southwest Breakfast Sandwich and I opted for the Breakfast Burrito with Chorizo. Jen also had a cappuccino and I had a cafe mocha. Jen liked her sandwich and I tried a small bite. More of a lunch taste for me. My burrito was very upscale. All ingredients finely diced and the red sauce gave it a good kick. Jen liked my choice as well. A lovely woman was dining alone and Jen asked her about her dish. It was the BBLT and she highly recommended it, especially if you love bacon (hence the B.B. - double bacon). With breakfast out of the way, we looked at all their bakery options. Jen selected their Bananas Foster Knock Knock and a Lemon Shortbread Square. I went with an Original Knock Knock and their Chocolate Decadent Cake. Jen liked her Knock Knock. I'm saving mine but sure I'll enjoy. The store is large enough to browse items and not feel like you are in the way of others. As for dining, good amount of seating outside. Noise depends on who's there and how many. This is now in our breakfast/lunch rotation. I look forward to trying their salads, sandwiches or perhaps a burger.
