Such a pretty loaf of sourdough, and delicious, too!
Wendy M.

We had the most delicious sourdough loaves made by Lucy. I like toasted sourdough, so we popped it into the oven while dinner was cooking to get a bit crispy. What came out was a wonderful experience. The crumb on the bread was perfect to our taste. The presentation of the loaves is also exquisite. I froze a loaf so that I can thaw and share it with friends who are coming over tomorrow night.

Lucy's bakes are perfection, and her customer service top notch. Easy to order, easy to pick up. Menu offers seasonal variety including sweet treats.

I picked up two sourdough loaves last night and we just cut in to one this morning and it is delicious. My kids kept asking for more. I was going to share one loaf with my mom but I'm not sure it will last long enough to share with her not only is it delicious but it's beautiful! I've already signed up to get the weekly menus and WOW there are so many choices. I'm so excited to try some other goodies. Thanks Lucy!

Lucy's sourdough is, by far, the best sourdough I've ever had. She has both savory and sweet varieties and, of course, her plain is a classic. She bakes true sourdough that has a long fermentation time. You can't go wrong. Her bread is not only delicious but, filling. The plain is classic and beautiful. I strongly recommend the focaccia, the porridge, the jalapeño cheddar, and the sandwich loaves are perfectly soft. The Everything Bagel, the seasoning is throughout the loaf and the chocolate espresso, you get chocolate without sweetness. It's beautifully rich. I have tried everything and just LOVE. Her cookies, and brownies, and coffee cake are beyond heavenly. Her brownies and fudgey and chocolatey without being overly sweet. Her brown butter chocolate chip cookies are soft and chewy, you can taste the vanilla and chocolate, the hint of sea salt both enhances and balances the flavor. It's a full sensory experience. Her snickerdoodles are cinnamon and sugar perfection with a chewy texture. I'm not only a loyal customer but, a foodie. If you do porch pickup, that's where you can get all the sweet bakes, and more variety of breads. Her loaves are generous in portion and freeze well. First class service and world class bakes.

Fresh Sourdough loaves

I just picked up fresh sourdough bread for the first time from Lucy. Her bread is so delicious!! I try not to eat gluten and lean towards sourdough since it is generally gluten free. The crunchy texture on the outside and the soft chewy bread on the inside is perfectly baked. Her bread is amazing! Will definitely buy more and highly recommend! In addition, Lucy is so nice!! This is by far the best sourdough ever! I especially loved the European rye and the herb focaccia. Will be ordering again!

Are the sourdough breads organic? If they are, what are the ingredients? Do you offer organic hamburger buns?

All the flour I use in my loaves is organic flour from Central Milling. My original country loaf is just water , flour , salt. My wild yeast is just water and flour. I do not…

What else to say about Chaupain, except it's always exceptional?…read more I'm biased - but their pastries have got to be the best in OC. This is the 3rd Chaupain location I've been to, I happened to be in the area. It's smaller than the one on La Paz in LN to be sure, but ample size enough to provide anyone with full tastes of their amazing goods. I like everything - I've tried nearly all of their pastries and cakes, this time I tried the cinnamon roll- which was insanely good, soft, and tasted of such quality. Actually - never tried their quiche, which is certainly on a bucket list for next time. I highly recommend everything they have - but just to name a new, the guava cream cheese, cinnamon cream cheese, mixed berry bateau, opera cake, vanilla scone, any of their croissants, lemon tiramisu, and the jamon sandwich is incredible - I love that the bread had a chewy texture, which is perfect for this sandwich. Adding any of the American condiments would almost be a sacrilege, but a bit of dijon is good, which they have there in packets- the flavours work so well together. I really struggle to restrain myself when coming here, which necessary for your wallet and your waistline - but whatever you decided it's all good here. The customer service was also stellar - very friendly, helpful, and personable. Thank you !

My family loves the spinach cheese and mixed berry croissant. I highly recommend stopping in and don't forget to take a few knock knocks to go! I only give four stars because they have removed the coconut knock knock and chocolate coconut croissant from their menu. Both items were elite (the coco knock being a staple of the scratch menu) and the sadness that has been caused by the removal of these items is unacceptable. Please deeply consider bringing back one if not both items. The scratch community will thank you!

Jen went with the Southwest Breakfast Sandwich and I opted for the Breakfast Burrito with Chorizo. Jen also had a cappuccino and I had a cafe mocha. Jen liked her sandwich and I tried a small bite. More of a lunch taste for me. My burrito was very upscale. All ingredients finely diced and the red sauce gave it a good kick. Jen liked my choice as well. A lovely woman was dining alone and Jen asked her about her dish. It was the BBLT and she highly recommended it, especially if you love bacon (hence the B.B. - double bacon). With breakfast out of the way, we looked at all their bakery options. Jen selected their Bananas Foster Knock Knock and a Lemon Shortbread Square. I went with an Original Knock Knock and their Chocolate Decadent Cake. Jen liked her Knock Knock. I'm saving mine but sure I'll enjoy. The store is large enough to browse items and not feel like you are in the way of others. As for dining, good amount of seating outside. Noise depends on who's there and how many. This is now in our breakfast/lunch rotation. I look forward to trying their salads, sandwiches or perhaps a burger.

One thing I love is that everything is freshly made in-house, and they have a nice variety of sweet and savory options. I tried their pumpkin spice latte and mini pumpkin pie, which were perfect for the fall season. For brunch, we got the Little France Club and French toast. We also sampled several of their pastries, including the hazelnut croissant roll, almond croissant, lemon macaron, and raspberry macaron. There were about four tables outside, and when I walked in, there were two display cases. One had beautiful, fancy-looking mini mousse desserts arranged so nicely, and the other was filled with different kinds of pastries. I really wanted a classic butter croissant, so I got one of those, an almond croissant, and an Americano to have with them. One thing that surprised me when I checked out was the price. A medium Americano was $6.50, the regular pastries were around $6 each, and the almond pastry was over $7. The prices felt pretty similar to what you might pay for pastries in France. At least they didn't ask for a tip when I paid, so I figured the higher prices probably already included some of that, which made me feel a little better about it. I went outside to sit down, but unfortunately, none of the tables had been cleaned or cleared yet. The empty tables were also sitting directly in the sun, so they were way too hot to sit at. (You all know how hot the weather has been in Orange County lately, right? ) I went back inside and asked if they could open one of the umbrellas, and they immediately came out, opened it for me, and I was able to sit down. I appreciated how quickly they helped. Now, about the croissants... I had pretty high expectations for the butter croissant because I had driven 20 minutes specifically because I wanted a really good one. Unfortunately, it wasn't quite what I had imagined or hoped for, so I was a little disappointed. The almond croissant was also much too sweet for my taste, and the center had a somewhat dense, doughy texture, so I couldn't finish it. There is a croissant I've had before that was **SO incredibly good**, and I've been searching for that perfect croissant ever since. I haven't found it yet. And honestly, the Americano was probably even more disappointing because of the price. At $6.50, I was expecting something special, but to me, it tasted pretty much like the $2 Americano I could get at a neighborhood donut shop. Maybe that's why the price bothered me even more. That said, I would still like to try the mini mousse desserts. They looked beautiful and definitely caught my attention. So maybe I'll come back another time and give those a try. I guess the search for my *perfect croissant* continues!
