Quaint little neighborhood coffee and light bites shop. Our house is just around the corner so this is a great spot to walk to and pick up some coffee and breakfast. It's very small inside so they ask that only 6 people be inside at a time. Prices seem super reasonable. I had a nice lavender latte. We also got some tasty peach and orange pecan scones. I had a slice of their veggie quiche that was ok but could have used a little more flavor, however, the crust was delicious and flaky! read more

Some of the best coffee on the island. The honey lavender iced latte I got was to-die for. The scones were also great, although there's a huge difference between the fresh scones and ones that have been sitting out for awhile. I came here twice in a week, and the warm scones fresh from the oven were just delightful. That being said, it was also the worst service I've experienced on the island--by far. I came here with my dad who is a very sociable person. Upon noticing that the man taking orders was miserable and treating all the customers rudely, he asked him if anything was wrong. The cashier/barista immediately went off, talking about how he was so sick of "everyone asking so many questions" and that he couldn't wait until he was done working, etc. Very unprofessional and unwelcoming, and made us not want to sit outside and enjoy the environment, but instead take our coffee and scones elsewhere. read more

Walked in and was immediately sized up by the owner. She was absolutely miserable. Not good for business. She had some refrigerated sandwiches on gorgeous looking bread. Today I went into Barefoot Market for coffee. I ordered a red eye which is a coffee with a shot of espresso. After a bit, I heard the barista in the back say "large red eye". Considering I was the only person at the counter I thought it was mine. I waited for a bit and still wasn't given my coffee. I then asked, "I ordered a red eye just checking where it is" and the barista, that thinks she's some sort of a hippy (which she's not as hippies are KIND!!!) says to me (in an aggressive manner/tone) "first world problems right". I, not being one to take abuse from aggressive people said, "No! It's not. I just want my coffee". She continued to be argumentative and again me not lying down and taking aggressive angry peoples BS argued back with her. This chick is a problem. I'm sure they know. I'm sure she can act "nice" to some people but this girl is not nice!!! For her to say to me "first world problems" for no reason, as someone who works there is argumentative and unnecessary!!! My comment warranted no kind of response. Even if it bothered her what I said, as an employee there's no reason to start an argument with a customer. I'm hoping someone talks to her about this incident, but I'm guessing she's related to an owner or worse yet, an owner herself! Finally, who I am pretty sure was the owner tells me "she is nice and now you have your coffee and can go!" Not as though I would ever be back! We live around the corner and always support Barefoot as a small business. The recent Inquirer review has increased the popularity too. Great scones, free trade coffee by the pound. But...the staff is marked by low energy. I've had the cashier sing to herself while taking my order in the past but the guy with the beard today wins the prize. Here's how it went: Me: Good morning! Three scones please. One of each flavor. Cashier: Nine Me; Thank you. That was about it. $9 was the cost. I guess it's just easier to say "Nine" and nothing else. He also seemed a little insulted that I took back my $1 in change and didn't drop it in the tip jar. read more

I debated posting this on Yelp with my daughter because she didn't want the customer competition, but I couldn't hold back. I would travel long distances for this experiences/food/drink. Like most other reviewers have mentioned their ownership and service are judgmental and pitiful, and it has only gotten worse over the years. My in laws own a place near Barefoot and we have summered in OC every summer for over 7 years now...when they used to be "Known for Scones" their service were amazing. However since their relocation becoming Barefoot, each summer their service gets slower and more judgmental. Their pitiful "prepared meals" section is worse than you can imagine, we got a shrimp salad that was neither salad nor pasta and 100% lacking in flavor. There are a few bakeries you walk in and you can see and smell the scrumptiousness. This is one of those kinda joints. At first bite, you can taste real butter with a touch of other worldliness! The baguettes were crispy, chewy, and salted perfectly. The scones were slightly sweet with all of the buttery flavor you desire. The cookies were on a different plane. The Barefoot Market is a quaint little organic market in Ocean City. I am always looking for a place that sells grass-fed organic cows milk, and they have it! Not to mention, the specialty chocolates and cheeses. There are always salads, sandwiches, and soups to-go as well. They serve chemex pour over coffee, so if you like it hot and fresh, the barefoot market is the place for you. They support local artists and crafters by selling an array of local hand made soaps and local honey. The last time I was there, I purchased local organic eggs that were from a farm about 10 miles away (lain that day). So if you're looking for a place to get unique quality ingredients, vegan options, homemade artisan bread baked daily, milk with the cream on top packaged in a glass bottle, and a smiling employee, make sure to give this place a shot. -a happy customer :) read more

I always try and support local businesses in OCNJ -I really do. I give them a shot and try and do my part. Unfortunately, I will not be back to Barefoot anytime soon. We come in on a Saturday morning and wait in line -that's fine. Get up to the front and the girl working is about as enthusiastic as a bag of rocks. Ok fine. I ask for an iced coffee. "Oh, well it's not cold..." wait, what? "It's not cold -it's like room temperature" Umm, ok. No thanks. Not sure why you would say you have ICED coffee if it isn't COLD? So I decide to cut my losses and ask for two plain, black, hot coffees to go and two scones and a muffin. $15. Ummm, ok. So it's expensive. Got it. She hands me the two coffees (no lids) and tells me everything is on the counter behind me. Ok..... except here's what ISNT there. Any sweetener besides sugar (no Splenda, truvia etc) any kind of low fat milk *(just whole milk and half and half), stoppers, closed lids.... So i ask "you don't have anything but sugar and regular milk/half and half?" Nope. "You don't have a stopper so i can carry this home?" Nope. Ok... thanks. Scones and muffin were fine -not amazing, not life changing -just fine. Coffee was also fine. Not amazing, not life changing. Bottom line is - I would rather go to Starbucks and get exactly what I want - Barefoot needs to up their customer service and service bar for the money they charge. Scones and baguettes are the best I've ever had, or expect to have, in my life. I've never had a scone with this texture before: incredibly crunchy and textured on the outside, soft but chewy and firm on the inside (I know, it seems like contradictory adjectives, but when you taste one you'll agree). The baguettes are the same - I've had good bread around the world, but never anything quite like this. The muffins, coffee, and sandwiches are OK, and service is kind of spotty, but when the scones and baguettes score 10/5, it all averages out to 5/5! I'm so glad they're open year-round - I can drive here (an hour away) almost whenever I need a fix. The heck with a low-carb diet - it's worth dying early if I can eat *these* carbs! read more

Best scones I've ever had. Period. And I work in a bakery. Beautiful crisp outside, moist and not too sweet on the inside. Just delicious. Great coffee too. You can't go wrong. Staff was very down to earth and friendly. I wish there would have been more items in stock, like the milk and grocery-esque things reviews mentioned, but I figured because we came early in the season they probably aren't as full due to lack of demand. We were very excited, but disappointed. When we got there, there was no menu. We asked about breakfast, and they pretty much told us what was available. We asked about lunch too. They asked what we wanted! Egg salad, tuna salad, "Its all fresh". We saw amazing pic online and thought the menu would be more extensive. The breakfast croissants and the scones we got were very good. The coffee - Columba - excellent. But the options and the personality of staff left something to be desired. The final highlight was being "corrected" about exiting the wrong direction!! I understand the reasons why they had a directional. But there was no one waiting behind me, and when I tried to change direction I was told "Nevermind! You've already gone that way!" Wow! Just wow!! I'm not a 3 year old and could have been asked more politely. I was just not happy with the customer service. Don't think we will be going back. read more

Found this place through a referral by another local business owner - WOW, what a gem of a quaint market! Got their raspberry scone, bread loaf, coconut/oatmeal chocolate chip cookie - all freshly out of the oven - and cheddar cheese & a cup of coffee. OMG, all were soooo yummy!!! Plus, the owner, Jennifer, and crew were such a delight & so helpful! For our first visit to OC, this place has definitely left an indelible imprint on our taste buds & memories! I have been going to Who's On First as long as it has been opened. This winter I was bummed they were closed, but I understood they were going through some transitions, and eagerly awaited their re-opening in a new spot. Since re-opening at the new location, I have more often than not been extremely disappointed by the new spot. The new barristas do not seem to know how to use the espresso machine properly, there always seem to be a wait, because of inefficiency and coldness by the owner, and not just because of it being understaffed. The owner does not really seem to care if the patrons are being ignored. For years I have RAVED about this place. It is one of my favorite parts of my weekly trips to Ocean City. I am not going to return, and will tell the many people I have HIGHLY recommended this place to, that they should avoid it. It is a drag to see a big corporation like Starbucks come in to this quaint little city, but with bad service & quality, like I have experienced at this place, I do not know what they have to offer, other than their organic/hippie posturing. I was always very fond of Lloyd, Eric, Brandon, and Mila....and the new people are nice enough, but not yet able to be there alone and give the patrons sufficient quality service and product. read more

We discovered Barefoot last year on our family vacation and happy to visit again! I take a short walk to their cafe in the morning for fresh cup of Le Colombe coffee (dark roast is nice and smooth) and browse which scones they have made for that morning. Last year, my favorites were Chocolate Toffee and Cinnamon, but this year, Raspberry, Blueberry, and Espresso won over. I actually did not like scones before Barefoot because they were too heavy, but I will eat Barefoot scones every day of our vacation. There are a few tables on their porch to sip to your coffee and enjoy your scones. It's always bustling and busy there in the morning so go early and enjoy some excellent scones. Some tip: - If you take your coffee mug, they give you a small discount - you can find Barefoot at 6th & Asbury Wednesday Farmer's Market. They mark up scone prices at the market and if you don't go early, you will find your favorite scones all gone. - Barefoot closes on Monday (sad day to find another place for coffee and breakfast baked goods) read more
