Today my wife went to the ACME on 9th Street in Ocean city. She went to the deli and stood there for 10 minutes. She was the only customer waiting. There was one employee behind the counter and another employee on the opposite side stocking goods in front. No one acknowledged her presence or asked her if she needed something. So, she left the deli, finished her other shopping and went back. Again she stood there for 5 minutes this time. Again, she was never acknowledged or asked if she needed help. Grocery stores in tourist towns are always chaotic during high season, but this place doesn't do itself any favors. The already narrow aisles are made exponentially worse by the fact that dolly carts and piles of product are randomly strewn practically everywhere around the store. The employees themselves stand in the middle of the aisles blocking traffic and barely move (and never an "excuse me") to allow shoppers to pass. Even what appeared to be a manager just stood there staring at me blankly as I tried to get by. An elderly and clearly sick woman was struggling to get something off a high shelf and an employee, standing right next to her, ignored her until another shopper stopped to help her. Selection is decent, prices are unsurprisingly inflated, and staff training is apparently nonexistent. read more

Like most things in seasonal beach towns, this Acme lives a double life. In the offseason I'm sure it's good enough for the comparative few locals that live here year round but then for a few months every summer, things go off the rails crazy train busy non-stop as you would expect. A few random thoughts: Most people in season are in town on Saturday to Saturday rentals. If possible, avoid coming on Saturdays and unless it's really early, I would also avoid Sunday unless you like a lot of pain in your life. Unless you park in the underground basement bunker, it's a shit-show in the main above ground lot and the place is, again, mobbed as expected. What also ties into the mobbed thing is that the aisles are very narrow and the store has tons of random displays here and there going through the produce-deli-bakery area which when crowded makes navigating the store less than desirable. In terms of selection and prices...meh. When I was a kid back in the 20th century before ACME closed a bunch of stores in eastern PA, I can remember going to one a few times and even then they had a reputation for high prices. IMHO, you're not getting any deals here and in terms of selection they have all of your basics covered. If you're looking for tons of plant based, keto, ethnic or other crazy things you're probably not going to find it here. At the end of the day what ACME has, and what the Superfresh had before them, is a 100% monopoly on the grocery market in OC. There are only two stores and if you want/need something more, you have to go off island for it. I mean sure there are the little 1980's style Wawa locations, that in season usually look like a hurricane ripped through the store if you show up on a Friday night, or a few corner delis like Berenato's but even if they have some of the staples you're looking for who wants to pay $8 for a bottle of ketchup? ACME is good enough because it has to be but when grocery shopping in OC keep the lyrics from the great song from The Cars in your head: "You're All I've Got Tonight". read more

This store is a full-featured, clean, well-organized and welcoming grocery store! The products are all top quality and the staff is friendly and professional. The ACME on 8th St has a very good selection for a grocery store at the beach. I like how you can shop here and still get all the brands you do at home for the same price. They also have a pretty good meat selection. The bakery stocks local and NJ good along with charcuterie items like fancy cheeses and cured meats. Essentially this place will have what you need. Something to note is that renters typically come on Saturday, so both Fridays and Saturdays tend to be very busy at this location. If you can get there on another day (Thursday night, Friday morning) your experience will be better. Parking is limited and tight, but they do have a free underground garage that is usually empty. It floods when there is rain, but its worth it to take the elevator instead of having to deal with the mayhem upstairs. This is pretty much your only option in the north end of Ocean City, but they will definitely have what you need. Post-Covid, you can even order your groceries ahead. read more

Always loved Acme on 8th St. As a year round resident I have shopped at the 8th St store almost exclusively for the past 21 years. I have far more than $400. dollars spent which should qualify me getting a free turkey. Alas, I am having a difficult time with the app. and while we used to be able to use our phone # in past years; this year requires you to use the app. I realize that I can afford the turkey but I am unhappy with what I feel makes shopping difficult for senior citizens. In future I shall shop elsewhere. You have lost a loyal customer. Your customer service desk was quite dismissive and unhelpful, of course I really don't know what they could have done. read more

Never ever come to this ACME unless you want checkout to take 20 or 30 minutes! "MARLENE" took forever to ring up the person in front of me, then spent 10 minutes (!!) trying to help her download the ACME app to save a few cents off her order!! I could have ignored and forgiven all of this if Darlene was at least good at some other element of her job, but when she was ringing up our stuff, she just kept FLINGING the items into the bagging area! Even eggs! Nothing was off limits from her shot put practice. Never greeted us, never told us to have a nice day, just yammered on and on to another cashier about how she (marlene) used to work in a casino. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! read more

I would like to give a shout out to Charade in the Bakery Department on 8th Street Acme. On 7/6/23, she helped me by personalizing a beach-themed birthday cake at the last minute and did so very expertly. I also liked that she asked me to verify that the cake was correct before sealing the box. She was great! I also noticed that despite the crowds, the other employees were friendly, helpful, and good natured. It might be busy and tight and a bit expensive, but considering the family resort setting, this is definitely the best place to go for general groceries on the island. read more

This acme is too small and it's only allure is it's proximity. They are always out of sale items but always have all the more expensive versions. I live in OC so we go to this acme often out of convenience for one or two items but it's usually just better to go to ShopRite or even the acme in somers point- somers point is always well stocked. Also, it seems like at this acme there's a new manager every two months so it seems like there's a loose bolt somewhere in that acme hiring machinery. read more

As I walked into the store, I forgot to pick up a basket. I wasn't planning on getting that much, so I didn't bother going back to get one. But I was still picking up enough things that it was annoying to carry them around. I also got some frozen vegetables, so my hands got a bit cold carrying them around. I think that the baskets should be more apparent when you walk in, so that you're reminded to take one. The vegetables were good though. read more

I've been using this pharmacy for years. They are sonewhat disorganized and only certain pharmacies are nice/helpful, but that's life at times. I recently had a prescription filled by te head pharmacist that was only 2/3 filled and is a very expensive medication. She would not help in any way claiming she made no mistake? Yet I have a fraction of what paid for?! My family has spent literally thousands of dollars here but she is doing absolutely zero to help. My family and I will be switching pharmacies, needless to say. It is extremely frustrating being cheated and so poorly treated as the customer. read more

We called ahead ans asked them to hold 5 lobsters. Arrived less than 10 minutes later to pick up. My father and I both specifically asked if they were alive and were assured they were good. We got home and two were dead and 1 was missing a claw. We called ans were told a manager would call back.... NOTHING. I called again and spoke with a manager claiming to be Andrew who apologized and said he would send a gift card in the refund amount. AGAIN... NOTHING. Terrible quality and terrible customer service. I purchased a tomato today. The cashier rang it at $3.99 / lb. I said I don't think that's the right price. She insisted so I paid. After I checked out I went back to check the price and there was a very large sign that read local tomatoes $2.99 / lb (which is ridiculously high for in season tomatoes). I went to the service desk and told them I was overcharged and the gave me back the difference, about $1. I said that the sign states if my item scan price is higher than the sign the item is free. I was told produce isn't scanned the code is entered in so it's different. I said it's really NOT. The tomato was pithy. read more

We went yesterday while it was rainy specifically to park downstairs with the baby in the underground parking lot located underneath the building. Arter we had the kids buckled in the shopping carts, we walked towards the elevator to go up and a large sign said ' Elevator out of order'. The only interaction with employees is the cashier and the deli staff. The cashier was nice but the deli staff should get a lesson on human interaction. Next! First, don't call '3 stars' a bad review, it's defined as "A-OK.' For a year-long resident, this is our go-to grocery store. In the summer, it is a nightmare, but then most everything else is in the city. But in the summer they do add lots of staff to stock the shelves and run the checkout lines, and given the size of the store, they truly do their best. If you want to go off-island into a super-store like Shop-Rite, feel free, but this is the best you can do locally. Meat is pretty good, the deli is not great but OK, still lots of choices on the grocery shelves, 'tho selections seem to have been trimmed since the conversion from SuperFresh. If you don't need exotic spices or specialty products, you can't do better. Well, literally, you don't have any other choice. And get your MyMIXX registration ahead of time, and register for your coupons, which are a big convenience when it's all managed electronically. Big turnoff is the crowded parking lot, especially the hump when you try to exit onto 8th street. I yelp every time we go over it. Can't tell if it's meant as a speed bump or is just a bad repair job? For whatever reason, my back continues to complain. But back to the store, it's A-OK. read more
