A few years ago, I went to Bareburger all the time. They had the best quinoa veggie burger. They had so many locations back then. Now, most of their locations have mysteriously disappeared and they've changed their menu. They no longer have the quinoa burger, but they do have a black bean burger. It was good, not as good as the quinoa but decent. Bareburger always left me feeling hungry and never satisfied. Well, after eating there tonight, I was still hungry. I had the Guadalupe with sweet potato fries. This location on the UpperEastside was dark. Looking in from outside I couldn't tell if they were even open. There was only one other table in there, back in the day this place was always packed. It was freezing in there, the burger was warm and the fries were lukewarm. Horrible racist and sexist with micgroaggressions and discrimination towards customers of color by the wait staff, who happen to also be people of color themselves (i.e. Hispanic/Latino men). No A/C on a hot 80 degree day and very dark inside when it's bright and sunny outside, very depressing atmosphere. This was Saturday early afternoon (around noon) in June. The place was nearly empty with the exception of a couple. Most of the tables shook or were unstable, and instead of the waiter asking if there's something he could do, he rudely said "you can see for yourself". I walked right now. This review is not for the food since I really enjoy the burgers. This review is for poor customer service and company policy. I ordered an El Matador burger with an impossible patty and a bison burger for my husband. The restaurant called to tell me they ran out of impossible patties and asked if I wanted anything else. I said no because I don't eat beef. I then asked to cancel my order and the restaurant said ok. However, I never received my money back. It is normally a restaurants policy to provide a refund for a cancelled order but the restaurant and corporate support absolutely refused. This is completely unacceptable. The restaurant didn't have the patty I requested, I cancelled my order, and did not receive any food. I should receive a refund! It's a shame because this place is going to lose way more money now by losing me as a customer and it's really a shame because I do like the impossible burgers here. read more

I was craving a burger the other night so I went to Bareburger. I don't go to Bareburger often but I like that they use organic, good quality ingredients. The price they charge for the burgers is reasonable considering the fact that organic ingredients are more expensive than conventional ones. Ordered: American ($11.25)- a beef patty with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, sweet pickles,ketchup and mustard on a brioche bun. The burger was flavorful and the veggie toppings were fresh. It was a standard size burger. I had no trouble finishing it. Standard ($10.95)- a beef patty with American cheese, caramelized onions, dill pickles and special sauce on a brioche bun. I preferred this burger. It was cheesier and the sweet onions were a nice touch. French fries ($6.45)- Bareburger's french fries are made fresh which I appreciate but they are pretty plain-just seasoned with a little salt. They offer you two side sauces of your choice. I enjoyed the barbecue sauce and their special sauce. $6+ seems like a lot for fries even though the portion size was generous. There were five small mushroom slices on the mushroom burger, hardly enough to call it a mushroom burger. The pickle chips were soggy and mostly batter, inedible. The "peppermint and eggnog" shake had two peppermint leaves and tasted like milk. Watery and frothy milk. We threw it down the sink. No eggnog taste at all. This wasn't worth the cost by a long shot. There had been a pretty significant gap between the first time I visited a Bare Burger and my most recent set of visits. Way back when, I had visited specifically to have either an Elk or Ostrich burger. However, as those options were either removed from the menu or not available (I honestly do not recall which) I lost interest in the chain and moved on. Years later, Bare Burger became one of the first burger chains in the NYC area to adopt the Impossible Burger as a standard patty you could order with any of their burgers. When the Impossible Burger was brand new it was at a Bare Burger that I had my first taste (and instantly became a fan). Since then, whenever I can I make it a point to visit Bare Burger for my Impossible Burger fix. While visiting someone in the UES, I needed lunch so I headed over to this location. I had been here before, but held off on writing a review until my second visit. The place was pretty empty when I entered. Right at the entrance is the host station and then the seating fans out on either side. There are small tables (where I wound up sitting) that work for two people - just barely. Then to the sides are larger tables for parties of three or more. When i ordered the staff was super friendly and service was quick and efficient. There was even a sift change while I ate and my original waiter was kind enough to tell me this and hand me off to another waiter (usually this is behavior reserved for fine dining establishments). My food came quickly and perfeclty cooked. No complaints here. I wound ordering the "Standard" with an Impossible Burger patty in place of the normal beef patty. This consists of organic colby cheese, caramelized onions, dill pickles,special sauce, brioche bun. The Impossible Burger does not actually have a very deep, beefy flavor. Instead, it has a much lighter, almost pork-like flavor to it. Along with the other ingredients in the burger it made for a tasty lunch. If you dig burgers and like to have a lot of options, this Bare Burger is a great option in the UES! read more

Always wanted to order from Bareburger, well, today I finally took the plunge and what a disappointment it was. The blazing bacon burger was dry, some of the bacon was overcooked some was raw; very little sweet fries in my order of mixed french fries and that was a shame because those were great; the shake did not even fill up the plastic cup, after this meal I can honestly say that their ketchup and sweet fries (whatever little there were) are the best thing about Bareburger. This is my second time ordering from here. This location has not let us down on quality & consistency. However customer service has the ability to either retain me as a long term loyal customer or lose me forever. Today they lost me forever. It was good I walked in straight to the bar the guy was nice I ordered and I didn't have to wait long. The burger didn't come with any trimmings no lettuce not tomatoes not onions. So I said to myself "self did you order your burger with trimmings?" I wasn't sure and I wasn't mad. The impossible burger was great just the vegan bun vegan cheese and organic ketchup. What I liked about the burger most it was juicy. Compared to the beyond the impossible reminder me of a Burger King patty flame broiled and seasons generously. This is the burger if I'm going out with the fellas, we walk in Bareburger and I order all of us one and after their done. I'm like you know that was a veggie burger right. If I had to choose though I was order the beyond burger . The beyond burger does taste like meat but if you over cooked it it does give you that veggie burger after taste. Another location of this organic NYC burger chain opened it's doors now on the UES. Dropped in here recently as we were craving a burger close to home in our hood. Beautiful cool night out and they had all the front garage windows opened up Delicious and juicy burgers, kick ass cole slaw in a mason jar, decent french fries with dipping sauces, and terrific onion rings. Just wanted The Original - with colby jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, raw red onion and Bareburger special sauce - and it hit the spot. We also had a few of their hand-crafted Maine root sodas - lemon lime and a crazy good blueberry. The hot honey milkshake was also pretty good! Service was on-point, friendly, and helpful. I ate my sweet potato fries for desert. This burger is huge! You get a lot of food for the price. It really is like getting a burger with the side of onion rings. It had a beef patty, Colby cheese, lettuce, one onion ring inside the bun that was stuffed with fries, and two onion rings on top of the brioche bun. I left off the condiments and asked for the country bacon on the side. I gave it four stars because I think they got the bun wrong. I was substituting the sprout bun for the brioche. It was a delicious bun though. Plus they were nice enough to leave off the country ham. I took it home. It was two huge slices of country bacon on this burger. This is one gigantic burger!! I originally was going to order on Yelp, and pick up my order at the restaurant, but I saw that the wait/preparation time was about 30-45 minutes, so I didn't want to wait. I had originally keyed in my order on Yelp and the total came out to $26-$27 and change. I later decide to order at the restaurant since it'll be faster and those same items that I intended to order on Yelp turn out to be $1-$2 more expensive at the restaurant. What gives? Anyways, I wanted to give their Impossible Burger a shot since these kinds of burgers seem to be the hype for the past few years. A burger that tastes and looks like meat but is "plant chemical"(heme) based. I'm not sure how I feel about that, but eventually, I still decided to give it a shot. After devouring the sweet potato fries and the chocolate and vanilla shake, I took my first bite of the burger. My overall impressions was that it tasted less flavorful than real meat and that it was more fragile and broke apart easier. Ever after just picking up the burger, the patty broke in half. I wouldn't really recommend ordering it, but I'd say try it just to try it. The shake on the other hand was delicious.
