Always looking for my go to eyebrow spot. And I think I found it! Booking online was super easy and simple. I have always wanted to know what was inside that building/house especially with that gorgeous curved front door. Passed it so many times on University. Parking was easy and nice to have designated parking spots for Bare Philosophy. Walked in and had no idea that you had to take your shoes off. I get for cleanliness sake and winter bringing water/salt, but I wasn't expecting it. I walked in and noticed another patron standing inside with her socks on so I followed suit. I didn't notice behind me that they provide slides to wear after you take off your shoes. There was no staff downstairs so no one to greet me or give instructions. There was a sign that said they were short staffed and to help yourself. It was the day before Christmas Eve. Really pretty inside and welcoming. Lots of areas to look at product. There was a coffee machine. Old historical charm throughout! The other client got brought back and I just was standing around. I finally heard someone in the foyer area and was checked in at that point and brought back to a large room for my eyebrow appointment. We spoke a bit about eyebrow shape and how she likes to keep things natural/follow your natural shape. Can always take off more later if I wanted. I think my eye wax was all of five minutes. Trimming, a few strips of waxing, and then tweezing and that's it. Let me have a look in the mirror and I was happy for the most part. I should've asked to trim my eyebrows a little more. But overall content with the shape. I wish there was something to put on my skin afterwards to calm it down since I get red easily. Again, the whole process was super quick, didn't feel overly personalized with an eye brow shaping/waxing but the job got done. The staff who did my brows was very nice and we made conversation throughout my service. I felt comfortable and no pain with the waxing/tweezing. Afterwards, she checked me out and you can give a tip on a card. $20 is a fair price for an eyebrow wax, what I was paying for at another place in the area. read more

Bare Philosophy makes the waxing experience honestly...fun?? The atmosphere is so warm and inviting! I had gone to their spot behind Rochester HS and then when they moved into the GORGEOUS house space in front of Stutz Derm, it was even cooler! You can tell they always put a lot of love and attention into making their space very cozy, warm, and inviting, and I really appreciate those touches! The prices are very reasonable here and while I was loyal to one waxer there, if there was a time or appointment last minute that I had to change and had to go with a different waxer, all the people I interacted with were very lovely. My waxer has since moved on and started her own waxing business, so I no longer go to Bare Philosophy, but I wanted to write them a parting glowing review given how much I have enjoyed my time here! Love this place! The first thing I loved was the convenience of booking an appointment online. We are all busy and sometimes finding time just to call is a challenge. The space and building are lovely and easy to find. Look for the Stutz Dermatology sign on the south side of the road. I've been seeing the same esthetician for years, but she is almost an hour drive from me which sometimes doesn't work. I saw Rayna for a Brazilian, brows, and upper lip. I always thought my first person was gentle, but Rayna was even more so and worked quickly too. I will definitely be back! Also please add more services. read more

Very nice place. I came here today with a Groupon to get my eyebrows waxed. I used to have a "regular" eyebrow place, and she was inexpensive, but didn't do a great job ... recently I changed to a salon in Birmingham but they're a bit pricier, and also my normal esthetician wasn't in this week, so I decided to try out this place after reading the great Yelp reviews. Rayna was my esthetician and she did a great job. I think I paid about $10 for the Groupon too and normally it's $20 for eyebrows, so that was a decent deal. The place itself was nice although not entirely what I was expecting - it's near Livernois and Walton Blvd. in a small office building, and once you turn in to the buildings area, it's the one farthest away from the main road. I can't say enough good things about this place! From the moment you walk in, the calming scents and decor help you start to relax. Every employee I encountered was friendly and welcoming, and the overall mood was warm and inviting. I had an appointment with Rayna for a Brazilian - my second ever. My first one (NOT here) was horrific and left me with burns, so I was very nervous about trying again. I explained my previous experience with her before we even started, and she took the time to reassure me about their procedures and the materials used. Rayna talked me through the entire appointment, which definitely helped distract me from the anxiety attack I was trying to suppress. The waxing itself wasn't bad at all! Obviously putting hot wax on such a sensitive area is gonna be uncomfortable, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I'd expected - especially considering my first attempt. It was over before I knew it! I went there for a wax, and I won't be going back. For my wax, I purchased the waxing package "The Rayna $115 - Service includes full leg, brazilian, and underarms," which was done by Rayna. I prepared accordingly, not shaving for 6 weeks prior to my appointment and taking care of my skin appropriately. The receptionist and Rayna herself were both friendly. Rayna informed me at the end of the appointment that the wax would not look better than shaving, and this was true. My boyfriend and I both agreed that I have a closer cut when I simply shave these areas, instead of waxing. Rayna said that it could take 2-7 waxing appointments before the wax would be better than shaving. It was painful and I had skin irritation after the wax. Not surprising there. The reason that I will not be going back is because Rayna completely missed long strips of hair, especially on my legs. These hairs were longer than a grain of rice, so it wasn't that they were not able to waxed. They were just overlooked. I regret giving a $40 tip and buying the pricey products that she recommended, because I feel like I was ripped off because I had long patches of long hair on my legs. read more

UNPROFESSIONAL. I just moved to Auburn Hills and was looking for a new place to get my regular chin waxes. Due to some construction and 5:00 traffic I was exactly 6 minutes late to my appointment. (I would have been even less late if the door wasn't locked and I had to look around and knock to see if anyone was even there.) When I arrived, the woman told me I was late and she would not have time for me for over an hour. SIX MINUTES late for a quick chin wax and I was turned away. I've been seeing Katie for 6 months now religiously for all of my waxing needs. She is always prompt and accommodating! Very friendly and talkative (I prefer chatting during my Brazilian....I find it makes it less awkward). She was also very professional. I get brazilians every 4-6 weeks, but I think even for a newbie, her technique was excellent in minimizing the sting of waxing. Katie is amazing. I have been seeing her for almost a year now and would never dare let anyone else touch my skin after experiencing her waxing skills and professionalism. As others have mentioned, Katie is always on time and I have never once waited to be seen for an appointment. I often have to change my appointment time due to work schedule changes. She is always quick to respond with a "no problem! " and suggestions for a new appointment time. Katie is an eyebrow goddess. When it comes to waxing, you need to go here and to Katie. It was the best experience I've ever had. I'm pretty uptight and usually end up feeling very uncomfortable. Not here. The results are awesome and the experience was great (minus the inherent discomfort). She is 100% a professional. I am a total spaz. I uncontrollably react to pain and fear, but even so, Katie dealt with it and didn't make me feel uncomfortable. She is thorough as the day is long. She has great music playing to distract from the fact that your waxing your lady bits. All in all she's awesome. I just went in for my first appointment, hoping to find a great new spa for waxing. I was 10 mins early like they asked me to be (first thing in the morning) and they told me they're running late (how are you already running late at 9:30 in the morning ?). I said I have to be out at 10:15 and she told me "you can wait and see if someone else can take you" I said "like, sit here and wait for a while and maybe hopefully someone can take me ?" I initially booked an appointment here on a whim - based on my immediate need and their availability. After one massage, I realized that, throughout my life, I've never had a good massage until now. Jen diagnosed a few other areas where, although I was dealing with discomfort, I was chaulking it up to getting older. She diligently worked out the tention and I felt that she genuinely wanted to ensure that I walked out of there feeling great. I did. In my experience, even massage therapists at expensive hotel spas can't compete. Come to find that Jen is trained in quite a few massage techniques which she used in subsequent visits. She was very informative and helped me understand why I was feeling pain, how to avoid it and what she was doing to alleviate it. I'd highly recommend a massage with Jen no matter what your issue.
