Every time I'm in town I try to make it to Bare Hands a couple of times. I used to make trips to Founders, 3 Floyds, Bells, etc, but there's really no need to drive that far for excellent brews anymore! The Thai.P.A is really something unique and special. He always has a few high gravity choices that are amazing as well. What I really love is that Chris is always trying something new. I have never left disappointed. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the sandwiches I have tried were delicious. If you like well-made craft brews and haven't made it out to Granger yet....check this place out. read more

As an avid beer drinker, this tap room has me coming back time and time again. Bare hands, from the stories I've heard, grew from the ground up as the owners started with nothing but their Bare Hands. The sandwiches are out of this world! The atmosphere is relaxed with some live music from some local patrons jamming with each other. Let's review the beer: From dark to lighter styles of beer, the brew master has a taste for beer that matches what people like versus what a brewery tells you to like. Their rotating tap sometimes forces you to try something wild, but it is always worth the experience. Price is very reasonable as a pint is $5 and a snifter of high alcohol content is $6. They also have a mug club. Overall, this brewery is a must stop for any brewery tour, don't forget to pick up a growler as well. Ok. I'm a San Diego IPA guy. From the 1st. micro brewery we had ( before Stone) I have been a IPA connoisseur. With San Diego being the IPA capital of the world know that these breweries had added to my educated pallet. Now Bare Hands. Can't say that i even looked at their other beers , just the session and a few IPAs. Still had a bad taste in my mouth from the other local brewery in South Bend. " Something about horse's". Now lets talk IPA. This guy Chris Gerard can hold is own in any big city let alone San Diego. Amazing ! To produce a high IBU / low ABV brew with all the best qualities of the finest IPA's is a major achievement. Tasty High alcohol IPA's are much easier to come by and Bare Hands rocks a few amazing ones as well. My job requires me to travel all over this country & I can say for certain "Bare Hands" is producing far & away some of the finest cutting edge IPA's you will find anywhere. Not into Hoppy brews, you will be if you hang around here. read more

These folks know hops. Definitely try their IPA's. I'd also recommend the Mail Order Bride, a wonderful imperial Russian stout. Also, my personal favorite, if they ever happen to have a variety of That's My Jam (think Soft Parade from Short's Brewing) and their Peanut Butter Stout, mix them together and thank me later. read more

It is hard to find, but once you're there, you'll be glad. The staff was very pleasant and the music was good. But come here for the beer. I am still dreaming about the ThaIPA (Thai-inspired IPA). It is a thing of beauty. I wanted to take some home with me on the plane but couldn't (darn TSA regulations!). read more

Excellent beers, but be forewarned that This is 100% a beer place, not a brew PUB. The "menu" consists of only a few sandwiches (3 turkey, 1 Reuben, 1 cheese). I ordered the Reuben with extra dressing on the side -- the dressing I got was definitely tartar sauce, not Thousand Island. Bartenders were cheerful but clearly focused on the group of regulars sitting at the bar, including a few offering a running commentary for the extremely stupid movie they were showing on all the TV screens. Really the one true brewpub in the area. You go there to have good beer and chat with friends. Not glamorous setting, but patrons get that. There is some food, but you rarely see people eat, though BH does have nice policy of allowing outside food. Makes it OK for families (and others) to bring in pizza or sandwiches. No wine or ciders like other places, which is a bit of a bummer. They had wine previously but was not a big seller. Beers rotate a bit, and they have a solid variety of styles, but if your favorite is not on tap it might be in cans, so pay attention. Some days bartenders are chatty and friendly; other times they are less so and seem to be more focused on the regulars who are usually seated at the bar. So more of a neighborhood place than one might expect. Tuesdays are $10 Pitcher Night. Also a good place to sit and read or listen to music and have a beer if you are by yourself. read more

I tried this local brewery saturday after a little hesitation since its location is less then appealing. I have to say that for a brewery in business for a few years they have a very small selection and nothing that stands out from anywhere else. I tried several beers and none stood out except for several of their beers came off as flat and improperly stored. The lack of enthusiam from the staff is also a big turn-off as they just stare with a scowl at their patrons waiting for the next order. There are much better options to drink quality beer in the area and with lack of food or lively atmosphere this place is simply just lacking. read more
