We ate there again yesterday and it was really good again, despite the place being really short staffed. I am celiac, so have to eat gluten-free. I appreciate that they KNOW what is in the food they serve. The house kombucha (lavender and lemon) was fantastic! Hubby liked his local cider, too. I had 2 Tex-Mex inspired dishes - hominy salsa and chevre queso. NOT what I was expecting (I was thinking more Pappacitos, but it was more Malibu Beach) but it was really tasty. And definitely gluten-free. Hubby had the grilled cheese, which checks all the boxes for him. The decor is really eclectic, which I like. I have been here a couple of times with friends when I visited the area. I am so surprised to find such quality food in La Porte. It is not only delicious, but also very fairly priced. Great place to have brunch or try some of the local brewed beers. I can't wait to visit again. We LOVE Bare Bones. This place is a gem in the town and brings some super excited plates to the table. The drink list is pretty long (maybe a few other options beyond beer) and the atmosphere is fun. We've only had great experience with the staff and it feels clean and fun. The food is just fantastic. Sometimes it can feel difficult to find some really exciting food around La Porte (tbh) and the menu here has some great food. The menu doesn't change very often, so it might be cool to see some new items, but can't complain about what they have. read more

Went here on Sunday. The restaurant has a very cool hip vibe. The waitress was not super friendly and was not attentive. The restaurant was not busy at all so wasn't a lack of staff. The food was terrible. The ranch for the salad tasted like it was pure dill. It is a very limited menu. For bringing kids make sure to look at the menu before hand. All the kids meals had cheese or a peanut butter and jelly. Note my son is lactose intolerant so was not impressed. read more

My step daughter is tormented by Chronic Lupus, Multiple Sclerosis & Gluten allergy attacks, so her diet is limited. She tonight was ordered out of Bare Bones Gastropub, and when I objected, the hostess ordered us all to never return. Some background... we went plant based vegan after Cancer affected our family and in support of our daughter. My step daughter was visiting from Tennessee to care for her natural father who is at end-stage kidney failure. We told her we'd take her to a specialty restaurant we frequent. When she walked in without wearing a mask, she was stopped by the waiter and reminded the local ordinance requires a mask (https://laporteco.in.gov/face-covering-mandate-and-covid-faq/) As you can imagine this is not an uncommon Covid-19 experience. But soon is where events turn. The hostess interrupts so my daughter re-explained she has a Medical Doctor-signed Release from masks as her degenerative MS produces a medical condition called TN or Trigeminal Neuralgia in which wearing a 'constricting' strapped mask can trigger excruciating facial nerve pain. So with less than ten physical steps to a table while maintaining six feet away from everyone was do-able without warranting the MS/TN medical risk (those with TMJ can appreciate the severity "Patients with TN could be misdiagnosed as temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder. Unlike TMJ, attacks of TN are... sharp and can occur without any jaw movement" Again challenged in public-view, Kim offered to go back to her car and bring her doctor-signed medical release. The Hostess did not care - 'no mask, no entrance, period'. She said she wasn't going to risk the business being closed over a face mask violation. To comply with the Hostess' wishes so she could walk the mere ten steps to a table (every patron was eating 6 ft apart) she next covered her face by her loose Turtleneck as a neck gaiter. "No" said the Hostess. Next, our kind male waiter graciously gave Kim a disposable paper facemask and she held it up against her face in compliance. While her back was to the other patrons, I truly wish others could see her pinched fiery eyes, her curled lip as well as her uncompromising orders. I am afraid all they saw was two, then three people clash, not understanding ADA legal nor health implications. This truly stirred my "step-dad's" family defenses over her narrow mindedness. So, you can imagine when I speak up now she orders the entire party to leave and never return. Though I regret turning around and giving her a piece of my mind, I'd rather have just left silently to never return. My sole regret We enjoyed amazing vegan meals at Fresco New Buffalo some twelve minutes later. Previously we found the owner extremely nice & gifted & he made a large limited desert for a special event for my employee. We've brought others to Bare Bones Gastropub. But really we never care to see this tall Amazon hostess' flaring nostrils, curled lip or distorted face, nor hear her voice again. It appears time the owner review with staff ADA & CDC guidelines and take people aside, not content in public. Hence the links. Cannot say enough good things about this place. In a city full of mostly fast food or everything fried food, this place is a culinary delight. Whether it's the sandwiches, salads, or entrees, everything is so delicious. The symphony of flavors are clearly indicative of a chef who know what they are doing in the kitchen. Oh, my goodness. We stopped in to BareBones on a Saturday evening on the way home from Chicago. Honestly, the amazing reviews lured us in. Well, Folks, they did not steer us wrong! From the moment we were greeted at the door by Ms Chloe's cheerful grin, and welcoming sit down at the bar to the extensive beer list to the tasty menu to choose from one knew Bare Bones was the place to choose! Ms Chloe was not only the door greeter, but the darnest barmaid, and waitress, as well. As busy as she was, her smile never left her sweet face. She obviously enjoyed her position as a top knot gal behind the bar. We enjoyed listening to her spar with the other customers. As previously mentioned, BareBones beer list is extensive. They taut supporting local breweries, and they are not teasing! We are IPA kids, and chose two accordingly from Goshen, and Valparaiso. Excellent choices. The Rueben on the menu went nicely with our beer selections. It truly was an excellent Rueben. Ms Chloe seemed to believe I needed the CremeBrule for dessert. I didnot seem to find it necessary for her to twist my arm. It was truly some of the best. Where has this restaurant been all my life? We had the special of the brisket, bacon Dijon potatoes, cole slaw for dinner and it is amazing. It came with 2 sauces, mustard and another that I don't think of when I order brisket. The second sauce has a cumin nuance (think Mexican spicing). Both are excellent. The brisket was cooked with the same spice palette. You also get a couple of slices of bread that are fantastic as well. The portion size was very generous. Came here on the recommendation of a friend who's a local. Based on the menu, I was going to go with the French Onion Grilled Cheese, but ended up with the daily special BBQ bacon cheeseburger with carmelized onion jam and bbq aioli with the seasoned house chips. Have been following The Collective on instagram, where they had a story about Bare Bones. Realized Bare Bones was only 15 minutes away... Jack Fruit tacos were amazing! Drunken Ruben on fresh homemade rye bun. Polenta eggs Benedict. We had 2 gluten free tummies in our group and they loved all of their choices. Omg and we started with beet poke! Ridiculous. My boyfriend and I had never been to downtown LaPorte before. We had a fun time downtown and decided to go to BareBones based on the few reviews on Yelp. So glad we did. It is new. They have a great beer selection and we are craft beer snobs. The food is outstanding. Special. Not some crappy salad with iceberg lettuce. My BF got the Reuben and loved it. The chef knows what he/she is doing. The server was very friendly as well and put up with our many questions about the area. Go here! The only bummer is the bar part is in the back and you can't really see it from the street nor see outside very well from the back area. I'm sure it is because they're in a very old building and that it would be a nightmare to move stuff around too much, especially the plumbing and electrical. We will be back. read more
