This was our first time visiting here for our Celebrity Mediterranean cruise from the Barcelona cruise terminal to Cadiz, Spain, Lisbon and Porto Portugal, and Tangier, Morocco. Our cruise ship returned to Barcelona. We spent two nights in Barcelona, the cosmopolitan capital of Spain's Catalonia region, known for its art and architecture. We stayed at the IHG Hotel Indigo near the Plaza Catalunya. As you can see we toured the #1 fantastical Sagrada Família Basilica and #2 Park Guell. Barcelona is also noted for other modernist landmarks designed by Antoni Gaudí that dot the city including the Museu Picasso and Fundació Joan Miró feature modern art by their namesakes. The City history museum MUHBA, includes several Roman archaeological sites. I really enjoyed our two night stay at the IHG Hotel Indigo and Barcelona's Plaza Catalunya area. Even Barcelona's Celebrity cruise terminal was well managed. We had no problems with our two night stay and tours despite some of the negative publicity regarding local Barcelona residents protesting against tourists with water guns and other methods. Barcelona is a big city will all types of options for leisure, active life, foodies, and pretty much everyone. I stayed at an apartment, not near the Old town, but a bit farther away. I knew I was going to be using the subway and/or the buses to get around, and that was an easy option for me. Overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, and famous for Gaudí and other Art Nouveau architecture, Barcelona is one of Europe's trendiest cities. It's a hub of new trends in the world of culture, fashion and cuisine. It combines the creativity of its artists and designers with respect and care for local traditions. The charm and slower pace of the old town, the avant-garde vibe of more modern neighborhoods, and the fast pace of one of the world's largest cities, all coexist in Barcelona. This metropolis is a showcase for the latest developments in fashion. As I strolled around the streets I was amazed on the choices of fashion, from casual and inexpensive to really elegant and ridiculously pricey. I enjoyed visiting the Paseo de Gracia and Avenida Diagonal. The Mediterranean character and the streets full of ambience make Barcelona a very charming city. The possibilities are almost endless, ranging from popular options such as a stroll down Las Ramblas or traditional markets such as La Boquería, to relaxing moments on the city beaches or the many pavement cafés in the old town. I took a free tours by foot and I enjoyed the guide and the places he took us...most of them around the old town....a bit outside that area, I ventured to see some of the major landmarks like the Sagrada Familia, Parc Güell, Casa Batlló and La Pedrera. A walk along the seafront (La Barceloneta) is always calming and enjoyable. I enjoyed meeting my friend Bob who lives over there for an evening on a rooftop terrace with views over the city skyline. I loved walking around the city's spacious parks such as Parc de Montjüic or Ciutadella, the marina, and the Olympic village. Culinary options are also varied. I had some really good food in neighborhood restaurants that were not expensive nor Michelin rated but that had excellent menus and excellent food. I found Barcelona a bit busy for my taste, too active, too hectic. read more

Best Churros in the world! Salud! Born on the ruins of the Roman Empire it has survived the dark Medieval times to Franco's fascism. Today, it's a world class destination for all. FC Barcelona is the professional soccer team and the culinary experience is on par with Paris, Rome, and Madrid. Other landmarks include Arco de Triunfo de Barcelona, Museu Picasso, Barcelona Cathedral, and the Medieval Barri Gòtic. I've been to Barcelona twice. My first visit was for a friend's Spanish wedding a lifetime ago. My second was to love and wanderlust across the historic city. And as Penélope once told me, "Every relationship ends, until maybe you find one that lasts forever." ¿qué? *sighs* In the end, I highly recommend Barcelona. Maybe I'll find true love again. Maybe one day I'll marry again. Maybe at Sagrada Família. To Penélope Cruz, maybe? One thing is certain I'll be in Barcelona again sipping Café con leche on a 14th century Gothic balcony with my dream. Barthelona! (If you're from Spain or are familiar with the way Spaniards speak, you'll get it. lol) This is legit one of my favorite cities on earth. Whether you're into history and art culture or the nightlife and party scene, Barcelona has the best of both. As a nightowl, I love how you can enjoy tapas and dancing until the sun rises. Even the sun refuses to rest until nearly 10pm during the summers. During the day you can visit all things Gaudi, roam Las Ramblas and the Gothic Quarters, spend hours upon hours at La Sagrada Familia, or head to the beach to enjoy amazing views of the Balearic Sea while people watching. With an impressively proficient railway system, it is easy to get around the city. I also took advantage of the HOHO (Hop On, Hop Off) bus passes and tours as a starting point; this is an excellent option for first time and/or solo visitors as it takes you directly to or within walking distance of all the major sites. As a vegan, there was no shortage of vegan and vegan-friendly eateries. Being able to enjoy vegan versions of classics like Patatas Bravas, was definitely a highlight. Unfortunately, my favorite restaurant, Gopal, has since closed. *insert pouty sad face* Of all the places I've traveled, Barcelona is the first I wanted to call home. I plan to return very soon and catch a futbol match (we'll see about that though...-_-). Either way, I'll definitely return and who knows... Maybe I'll stay. xo read more

Hola Barcelona - the capital of Catalonia. A grat City full of culture, architecture und also tourists. So, check the hotspots as fast as you can and turn to the not well known parts of the city. Also exciting, beautiful and often cheaper than the moustraps in the city. The public transport is well developed, but not easy to understand the system. Anyway, try a ride on Tram (Streetcar), rent a Bike or just go hiking in the close Mountains. Barcelona is just more than Sagrada Familia, the Ramblas and Catalonia Square. read more

Tons to go see, great for the art enthusiasts, the nature lover, or the architecture lover. Barcelona is for you! They stay up late and you can walk the streets for hours and hours! The entire week I stayed here I walked a total of 50 miles combined. Had a chance to go to the Picasso museum and visit a few of the well known parks. I can literally get lost in this town. The food the people the lifestyle is definitely wondering what's wrong with the country I currently stay in lol oh and the pricing!! Omg the entire week I only spent $500 American dollars! Hola!! Barcelona is a fun city with diverse culture and super friendly people. It was our first time here and we pretty much visited almost all local places. Local restaurants and local hangouts and local night clubs. There were a few tourist spots we visited, but our goal was to immerse ourselves with the local culture and flavor. My "Spanglish" was somewhat limited in the beginning, but after talking to the locals and spending more than nine (9) days here, my Spanish improved greatly and I was able to carry almost regular conversations. The locals here do speak a dialect called "Catalan," but if you speak Spanish, they can understand and are very accommodating. I rode a bike when I was here, and I also took a bike tour as well. I found quite a few local cafes here, one close to the business school at the University. We did a lot of walking because everything was centrally located, but for farther distance, we took the train daily which was very easy to use. We stayed very close to the University of Barcelona which by the way, it is a very beautiful campus. The campus also offers an immersive course in Spanish which I looked into while I was here. If you like Gothic Cathedrals which I do very much, the Santa Maria Del Mar is a beautiful church located in the Gothic Square area. The Pier is also another great place to hangout. It rained a few days while we were here, but sunshine did come out and so we spent time at the beach. It was very relaxing. Best of all, the food in Barcelona is just amazing. Definitely the Paellas and their Tapas were fantastic. All in all, I think Barcelona will be our goto place to visit Europe again and again. We really enjoyed the friendly people, and I especially love how bike friendly this city is. The bikes even have their own signal lights. Way cool. Hasta la proxima vez.... read more

It's 3.5 star rounded up. Why? Way too touristy. I traveled here last in 1998, and Barcelona was my favorite city -- and I visited 10 European countries. It was charming, and not overcrowded -- 5 stars all the way. In Dec 2017, I traveled here again, and it was overrun and very touristic. This effects the food, every Gaudi thing, sitting and watching -- I'm done -- 3 star at best. Things to do: 5/5 Safety: 4/5 Cleanliness: 3/5 RESTAURANTS -- Isabella's, Patron, Toto were my absolute favorites. Others nearby the Las Ramblas/Passeig De Gracia area: La Poma, Casa Guinart, Mussel, and bakery/coffeeshop, Il Caffe di Francesco - Pau Claris. GAUDI -- All of the Gaudi structures are a must see: Basílica de la Sagrada Família, Casa Batlló, Park Güell, Casa Vicens, Casa Milá (La Pedrera), Colonia Güell, Casa Calvet, and Cascada Fountain at Parc de la Ciutadella. LAS RAMBLAS -- Must see ONCE, but way too touristic and not worthy unless you need to get to a nearby place. MERCAT LA BOQUERIA -- A super high-end, expensive, but amazingly beautiful outdoor market. Many eateries with hard-to-get counter seating for seafood, meats, and other grilled items. Truly a spectacle, and a great experience. Surrounded by mostly touristy restaurants, Casa Guinart is an exception -- great meal. TABLAO FLAMENCO CORDOBES -- Amazing Flamenco show. Totally recommend! Make certain you get good seats where you can see the feet of the dancers. HOTELS -- I recently stayed at Hotel Catalonia Passeig De Gracia, and it was nothing short of wonderful. Super clean and well decorated. The staff was super friendly, English-speaking, and very helpful. read more

Barcelona is fantastic! This is the city you want to visit, and visit and then visit again and again! A city with a unique character. Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia, a part of Spain with its own language and history. While technically you are visiting Spain, it is quite different from other Spanish regions. The city is located between Madrid and Paris (flying distance to Madrid - 504 km/313 mi, to Paris 830 km/516 mi). "Paris is just a bigger Barcelona, actually" :) That was my first thought when I first came to Paris being very familiar with Barcelona. The Catalan language is considered closer to French than Spanish by linguists. Catalan is the official language and most locals are bilingual (Spanish/Catalan). A lot of people speak English too. Learn a couple of phrases in Catalan! Some top tourist destinations - you'll need at least three days to visit them: 1. Sagrada Familia, Passeig de Gracia with Casa Batlo and La Pedrera buildings, Plaza Catalunya 2. Las Ramblas, Mercat, Colon, Catedral de Barcelona, Placa Reial, Gothic quarter 3. Parc Güell, Plaza de España, Camp Nou Stadium, Montjuic hill What not to look for: 1. Bullfighting. BANNED long time ago in Catalonia 2. Flamenco shows. If Barcelona is the only city you are visiting in Spain and you are a fan of flamenco, then, okay, you will find that. Otherwise - this is not native to Catalonia, better spend your time on something else here. My 1000th review goes to my FAVORITE place in the whole-wide-world!!! Barcelona!!! Known as the second largest City in Spain, Barcelona is one of the major touristic and economic places in Spain. Tourists come to enjoy the beautiful, relaxing beaches including El Bogatell Beach; admiring the beautiful, unique architecture- some of them including Casa Batllo and Aduana del Puerto de Barcelona. Don't forget to check out Parc Guell-one of the most visited places in Barcelona (make sure to buy tickets way ahead of time!) Check out Gaudi's church of the Sacred Family and walk through the lovely streets and narrow roads of Las Ramblas while watching street performers. There are no words that can possibly describe the lovely City of Barcelona. The best way to experience it? Stay for at least 5 days and walk as much as possible! There is so much to see in Barcelona no matter day or night. It's bustling with fun and an abundance of restaurants and tapa bars. The best time to come visit Barcelona for me was during Christmas and New Year's. I was able to experience the holiday festivities and the wonderful New Year's tradition of eating 12 grapes during the New Year's countdown that resembles good luck throughout the whole year. I spent days on foot, walking through the different areas of Barcelona: Las Ramblas, El Raval, Gothic Quarter, Montjuic Hill, and Passeig de Gracia. Top things to visit in Barcelona: - Sagrada Familia- One of the famous and popular places to visit. Fantasized up by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi! -Passeig de Garcia-One of the famous streets in Barcelona. Makes sure that you look up the whole time as you wouldn't want to miss the amazing architecture and unique buildings as you stroll through the area. Additional visits include: - Cathedral of Santa Eulalia - Parc Güell - Plaça Catalunya- The People here are so friendly and love tourist! The most used languages spoken here are Spanish and Catalan. English is spoken here but seldom. When I was lost, I had no problems asking for assistance and help. Transportation is fabulous here. Barcelona also has ride share apps that you can download. Tickets right now from the US to Barcelona are VERY decent. I was lucky to book a flight for less than $320 round trip! Super steal deal! I definitely recommend visiting Barcelona-don't forget to take a short train ride to Madrid! This was absolutely one of my BEST trips that I have been on so far! I truly left my heart in Barcelona! Beautiful, exciting city. Lot's to do for people of any age. Of course the architecture of Gaudi is a must see but there is so much more. You can see 2000 years of history all within walking distance including Roman ruins, Gothic cathedrals and medieval buildings. Tapas and bars are everywhere and open late in the evening. If you're going to Barcelona, you HAVE to go to La Sagrada Familia! If you want to enter, you can purchase tickets online. It's the same as getting it at the front door without a shorter wait time. Make sure you take a look at BOTH sides of the church. You can catch a big bus tour that stops in front of the church or take public transportation. read more
