Jamaican-style fried chicken
Carol R.

I was told by a few other Jamaicans that this place had the best curried goat in town. So, we decided to try it. The restaurant is in a small shopping plaza with lots of parking. It is plain and clean with seats for dining in. But it seems popular for take-out meals (which is what we did). Servers were friendly. But at 5 p.m. on a Saturday they were out of boiled yams, bananas, and dumplings, as well as fried bammy. And they didn't have any steamed cabbage nor plantains. These are staple side dishes. And none were available early on a weekend night? One server told me to come at 11 a.m. to make sure I got what I wanted. Say what? Anyway, we got an order of curried goat (only one size available at $16), a side of jerk chicken, and a side of fried chicken. The jerk was nicely seasoned but did not come with any additional jerk sauce. The fried chicken was good and was accompanied by a sweetish sauce on the side. The goat was tender and seasoned nicely but a bit too salty for my taste, and definitely not the best in the area. (Though, no one can compete with my mother's curried goat. But since her stroke last year, she is not doing any cooking.) And we got enough salad (lettuce and such) and pigeon peas and rice with the curried goat that we did not need another side to accompany all the meats we bought. (Besides, they didn't have anything else that we wanted.) Our cost for the order was $31. Very reasonable.

Lunch Special Mon-Fri. $7.99! It's fresh and it was delicious

Every-time I go there's a line but it's worth the wait. Food is delicious. Lunch specials until 2pm only like $7.99. Next to Publix

A solid place for Jamaican food. The service was excellent, the lady was very apologetic for taking time since they were short and mentioned that they are currently hiring. We had the oxtails with rice and peas which is sold at MKP $25 that day. The plate was packed with food , and the oxtails well juicy and tender. I wish they were more seasoned. Rice and peas were good. We also had the curry goat with white rice which we loved. Very well seasoned and tender. White rice was good as well. Both plates had cabbage which were unseasoned and bland. Went to the trash. Additionally we got : The fried chicken (crispy and flavorful) Jerk wings (Terrible!) Fruit cake (was moist and tasted good) Overall it's a ok place to go if you are in the area.

Ordered: Curried Goat, White Rice, and Steamed Vegetables Sweet Potato Pudding Jamaican Ginger Beer Felt for some "yaad food" as Jamaicans would say. I have a love-hate relationship with Barbican, they never have chicken breast available. Today I went for their curried goat. As always never a disappointment, the meat was well seasoned, the rice had a good consistency not hard nor soft (shelly). The and firm vegetable. Sweet potato is a no-no for me. It has no flavor to it, the consistency is very tight although it's a pudding and just does nothing for me! Service is acceptable, location is clean. Overall the food and quality is good here.

Good food, but they are holding oxtail ransom. It's like an endangered species. I will report back if I ever get any.

I came in for the first time on a week evening for a late dinner. When we sat we noticed that the menu was small and had no prices . Yikes ! Anywho we decided to stay. For drinks we had the lychee dragonfruit margarita 10/10 and Hennessy rum punch 10/10 but they took forever to arrive to the table. For starters we had the lobster fritters which I was imagining something completely different. It was not terrible but I didn't enjoy it. For dinner I had the lobster and shrimp Alfredo pasta which was so flavorful. We also had the oxtail with white rice and plantain which the oxtail was tender and flavorful. Overall the service was a bit slow but the food was fresh and came hot to the table. For was also very good. However it is overpriced for some people as our bill was about $200

We came across Kekoon Restaurant & Lounge in Davie, FL and made reservations, which I highly recommend. The restaurant itself is very nice, with plenty of free parking, which is always a plus. Before we even walked in, we could hear the music from outside and already knew the vibes were going to be on point. Once inside, we were greeted by the hostess and, after a short wait, taken to our table and introduced to our waitress for the night. Our waitress, Ginger, was absolutely beautiful and took great care of us throughout the evening shoutout to her for the excellent service. Since it's a restaurant and lounge, we ordered drinks and appetizers for the table. The oxtail egg rolls were our favorite definitely a must-try. The coconut bang bang shrimp wasn't the best; it was falling apart. The salmon bombs were just okay, and the truffle fries weren't really truffling, if you know what I mean. The drinks were good, but the presentation and taste weren't consistent. We ordered two rounds. I had the Watermelon Pomegranate Cosmopolitan, and my sister ordered the blueberry Don Julio mint mojito and the dragonfruit margarita. One thing to note: there are no prices on the menu, so be prepared to spend money. Drinks were around $20, and a shot was $15, which felt a bit steep considering the location isn't beachfront. Around 11:30 p.m. midnight, a young lady came around offering hookah service. We ordered the blueberry mint hookah for $90, but unfortunately it started getting harsh after about 15 minutes. A quick restroom note: only one of the two toilets was working, and it had run out of toilet paper, which was disappointing especially since the place wasn't even packed. Overall, we had a decent time. The vibes, music, and service (especially Ginger) were highlights, but there are definitely some areas that could use improvement for the price point.

Island Tings in Miramar definitely delivered if you're craving real Caribbean comfort food…read more I ordered the curry chicken and it was exactly what you want from a spot like this. The chicken was tender, well seasoned, and soaked in that rich curry sauce. It came piled over rice with veggies and potatoes mixed in, and the flavors were deep and authentic. You can tell it's the kind of food that's been cooked slow and done right. The portions were solid too definitely a filling meal. Perfect if you're hungry and want something hearty. The restaurant itself has a cool island vibe inside with the beach murals and bright colors that make it feel relaxed and laid-back. The setup is simple cafeteria style, so you move down the line and pick what you want, which keeps things moving. If you're in Miramar and want real Caribbean flavors without the fuss, this spot is worth the stop. Good portions, flavorful food, and a chill atmosphere.

She said a few words in patois to the other woman. Next thing I know the other woman started preparing all the sides in a carry out container and then goes to the back for the jerk wings. I didn't leave until 8 o'clock with my order. It wasn't worth the time that I waited. The rice and peas and cabbage were delicious. The wings were dried out, hard and tasted like barbecue chicken instead of jerk wings. I threw them in the trash. Don't even bother putting an order in before cause you're gonna wait anyway. As the place was empty and two women working were talking at the bar I walked in and went to sit. One of the women asked if I was with the group and then told me I needed to wait to be seated. It was awkward. It was a bit rude. Most times it's not what you say, but how you say it. Maybe it's just me, but the waitress immediately informed me that three items weren't available, including biscuits and cornbread of some sort. As a first-timer, it was weird. Fortunately, everything got better from there. My first meal, regardless of time, needs to be breakfast-y. As I perused the weekday brunch menu via QR code (what if you don't have a phone?) I ordered a coffee and water. The water came quickly, but the coffee took its time. I ordered the Wafflette (don't you want to try things you can't get other places?) It came as pictured and was good. The syrup was quite watery and left a lot to be desired, but I really didn't need it. The star of this dish is the bacon. I could have bathed in this bacon. It was thick and chewy, such a nice compliment. I don't know if there are bar stools available and whether they set up center aisle seating when it's more crowded, but the restaurant appeared clean and well-kept. There were no rounds available when I went, so I don't know how they accommodate groups of 10+, I sat along the banquette that could accommodate two. I am very interested in returning to try the ox tails, which are available in two (or was it three) dishes on the menu. I look forward to revising my review then.

I came to The Jerk Spot because of its high Yelp ratings. The pictures looked amazing, and what…read morereally stood out to me was that the reviews were recent and consistently highly rated. That matters because a lot of places start strong when they first open and then quality slowly drops over time. Consistency is everything. Walking in, the place itself is very unassuming--simple, clean, and not trying too hard. To me, that's actually a good sign. I'd rather a restaurant put its energy into the food instead of relying on flashy decor to draw people in. My first thought was: they let the food speak for itself, and I respect that. The ladies working there were very friendly and welcoming. There were already people inside when I arrived, and while I waited, even more people kept coming in. Another great sign--if people aren't being pulled in by appearances, they're definitely coming back for the food. I ordered the large jerk chicken with rice and peas, sweet plantains, vegetables, and jerk sauce on the side. I also ordered two spicy Jamaican patties. I'm not exaggerating when I say I took two bites and immediately came to write this review. The chicken is juicy and tastes like it was freshly cooked. The rice and peas are soft and fresh. The vegetables were crisp, the plantains were perfectly sweet, and the jerk sauce was delicious with a nice kick to it. Nothing tasted like a mass-produced commercial kitchen meal. I don't have a Jamaican aunty, but this tasted like the kind of food I'd expect from showing up to family dinner at a relative's house--homemade, comforting, and made with care. The portions were generous too. I haven't tried the patties yet because I'm saving those for my husband, but they're large, flaky, and still holding their warmth really well. I came here because of Yelp reviews, so I wanted to do my part and keep spreading the word. Easy 10/10 -- I'd absolutely come back again.

For entry into the gender neutral bathroom required a key attached foot long metal serving spoon which was unexpected but hilarious. The room was clean with vibrant green wall paint which blended nicely with the Jamaican theme. Ordered a mild spice Jamaican patty offered in a thin paper baggy. The dense pureed beef patty smelled great. The average sized patty was flaky and tasted incedible.
