This place has really cleaned up its act. A total turn around. The food is fresh the staff is friendly. One of new favorite lunch spots on the island. read more

Love love love. Kids eat free on Tuesday. Scary looking (dreads, tats, etc...) servers, but they are as nice as can be. Delightful, even. We go at least once a week. read more

Staff is super nice. Food seemed really fresh. I like the various options of protein and burrito shells. Definitely want to try it again.

this is my favorite taco spot. close to my house great folks working here. the cheese sauce is the best and should be spread on everything! you can get in and out quickly. make this a stop for lunch or supper. read more

We have been customers here for many years. The quality has diminished mainly due to the customer service. I'm disappointed that you no longer make nachos by broiling them with shredded cheese. Pouring queso over the top seems like a lazy shortcut. This has been one of the many lazy shortcuts we've noticed over the years from the staff. Disappointing from a place that used to be great. read more

Horrible service and bland food. I wanted a reason to want to eat here vs. eating at Moe's and unfortunately I will not eat Barberitos again. The employees were rude and inconsiderate. I do not know if this has to maybe do with them all being young, but that should not really serve as an excuse. We were there tonight, Friday at 8 pm and one employee was shaking the dirty floor mat out and sweeping right in front of us, while we were trying to enjoy our dinner. She continued to clean around customers moving tables, shaking out mats and sticking the dirty mats on empty booth seats. As more people started to come in she continued wiping down seats and tables with the same dirty rag and moving the tables sideways making it impossible for new customers to have anywhere to sit . One customer pulled a table back out so they could have a booth to sit out while the employee stood there and watched them to only turn around and roll her eyes. Cleanliness is great, however, closing down booths at 8 pm on a Friday when your restaurant is already full and new customers keep coming in leaving them perplexed on where they are going to sit, dodging dirt piles, is just bad service! The place just felt dirty and I could do without having a mat shook out right in front of the table I'm eating at. read more

The food is great, tastes fresh and is healthy for you. I've been there quite a bit over the last nine months because I moved to a place close to there. Since I've been living in the area the portions have gotten smaller and smaller and most of the staff is rude and seem like pissed of high schoolers. If things keep going the way they are, they won't be getting my business anymore. read more

I love this place! I have been going here for over 5 years. While it is not much to look at and it is set up for getting people in an out it is always pretty yummy. I love the California Burrito and the salsa verde. I don't think I could ever eat at a Moe's again. It tastes so bland after eating at Barberitos read more

I had a really awful experience here tonight. I can easily say that it was the worst burrito I've ever had. It was SO peppery, not exactly the kind of flavor you'd expect in Tex-mex. also, the employees seemed extremely "spacey"- they had a hard time understanding what was going on making it difficult to communicate basic things i.e. I want sautéed vegetables in my burrito. Safe to say I'll never go back or recommend. read more

This was my first time coming in this place. The customer service was fair. They mainly focus on vegan burritos and at first I wasn't aware until I had to tell them I oh I wanted chicken on my burrito. After that they attempted to over charged me $9 for the chicken burrito considering the burrito I ordered was the California burrito and the price said $6.89 but once I pointed that out they fixed it. All I had on my burrito was guacamole, chicken with black beans a pinch of onions with sour cream and free chips. I wasn't too thrilled with the chips as they seemed a little paper thin and greasy than what I'm used to.. Again it was fair but the atmosphere is definitely not like Moe's or your Authentic Mexican Cuisine. (They tried) I definitely like that everything was served fresh from the salsa to the toppings I thought that was very good. It's more like an inquired taste you would have to get use to, but I would recommend them to anyone that specifically wants vegan or only gluten free food. read more

Anyone who likes Chipotle or Moe's will almost definitely like Barberitos, and even if you don't like that type of food, you will probably still like Barberitos. I am a die-hard Chipotle fan forever and it will always be number one in my heart, so I was sceptical that Barberitos would live up to my Tex-Mex expectations. I was once told Moe's was on the same level as Chipotle, but I was very disappointed. Moe's just did not compare to Chipotle for me. So I was definitely walking into Barberitos with somewhat low expectations. Also I was slightly concerned because I am a vegetarian which can sometimes be a bit restricting. I entered the South of the Border inspired restaurant and noticed that not a lot of people were there which was a little concerning. I looked at the wall menu and was already overwhelmed. It was very similar to the wall menu at Moe's, a colorful, chaotic jumble of food items and prices, probably designed to confuse the patron into spending more money than they need to. At this point, I was wishing I had just walked down King Street to get my beloved Chipotle instead of sitting through a fifteen minute car ride to get to this unfamiliar new spot. I stood last in line of my group of friends to watch them order, two got quesadillas and one got a burrito bowl. I chose a burrito bowl and filled it with all the same things that I would get at Chipotle. I was surprised to find that there were actually even more toppings than what is offered at Chipotle, so I also added some cilantro to my normal order. I got to the register and ordered some queso to go with my free chips, as well as a sweet tea. Free chips was definitely a nice bonus, since they cost extra at Chipotle. I sat down with my food, beginning with my bowl. Everything tasted fresh and yummy in the bowl. The rice was very good, as were the corn salsa and guacamole. I wasn't Chipotle, but it was still good and I was not disappointed. It was nice that everything tasted so fresh. Next, I tried the chips. The chips looked like chips that I would like, thin and crispy and definitely fresh out of the fryer. I thought the chips were delicious, probably my favorite part of the meal. I tried the queso and was also very impressed. It's different from the queso at Moe's because it doesn't have any spice, it's really just melted cheese. But it tastes very good. Another great thing about this place is their sweet tea. It was just the right amount of sweetness, I actually went back for seconds on the tea because it didn't taste like it had enough sugar to give you diabetes, like it often does down here. My overall consensus of Barberitos is that it is a very good fast, fresh Tex-Mex joint with a lot of yummy options for just about anyone's taste. It doesn't beat Chipotle for me, although it definitely blows Moe's out of the water because of its freshness and its queso. read more

I called to place an order for our office. I was told they were too busy to take the order and to call back in 15 minutes. I told the guy I had someone coming to pick it up so he said 5 minutes. I called back. He said they were still too busy. I was like seriously? Would you turn me away at the door. He told me that I was keeping him from putting out fresh veggies and that he was the prep cook. Then he said Shit and hung up on me. Worst service i've ever had anyplace read more

Every year I have a luncheon catered for my staff of ~25. This year Barberitos (Maybank Hwy, James Island SC) was a special request by one of my supervisors in order to help accommodate a vegetarian employee. Ordering was easy, the food was great and the service exemplary, particularly given that the electricity was intermittent at both my office and the restaurant all morning. Thanks to Hurricane Michael it was out completely, including the elevators, when the order arrived! Poor Kory K. had to climb 3 stories multiple times to get all of the food, drinks, utensils and serving pieces to our conference room but he did it. Communication regarding the status of the order the morning of was great, the delivery was on time and the food was wonderful. Staff had more than their fill of great food and loved having something different this year. Will definitely use them again and highly recommend them for catering!! read more

My family loves Barberitos. I love that the rice doesn't already have beans in it (for the picky eaters) and I love the cheese dip. The chicken has a great flavor, too. read more
