Just moved in to a new apartment in John's Island with my fiancé. We ordered for pick up while we continued to unpack. The order was completely wrong. She does not eat gluten so ordered 2 corn tacos. The only thing they got right was the chicken. Aside from almost every single topping in the taco being incorrect they also served it in a flour tortilla instead of corn. Waste of time and money. Atleast the guac was decent.

Placed a to-go order. My order is pictured next to the most SORRY burrito bowl I've ever seen. No salsa was added, MAYBE a scoop of chicken and rice, and there's more lettuce that chicken and rice combined. Never order pick-up from here. Also go into the restaurant and make sure you get your money's worth. UPDATE: the rice isn't even cooked. $22 down the drain...

With all the similar burrito bars in the world, there's subtle differences that separate one from the other. Barberitos excels in some areas and falls short in others, but overall I enjoyed the place and would definitely go back. Pros: -Freshness is a top priority and they don't even own a freezer up in here. -The whole place is super clean and the staff is very welcoming and friendly. -Options for flavored wraps and unique proteins like ground turkey, three different types of lettuce (the spinach is underneath in the fridge... just ask), and toppings like fresh cucumber or avocado. -They have queso dip (some don't... I'm looking at you Chipolte) and it comes in large quantities too. -Free chips. They're almost too thin, but they're free (quit charging for chips Q'doba!). -The good ice... you know what I mean Cons: -Although the staff is very customer service focused, they weren't the fastest bunch. One picky customer ahead of you can really hold things up. -With up-charges for a bunch of little things like $.90 for sour cream, guac, or avacado, you can end up with a pricey burrito in no time. -As I mentioned, the chips are too thin for my liking. As you can see, the pros strongly outweigh the cons. It seemed to me the best way to distinguish between all these similar entities of fast-casual tex-mex dining.

Barberitos Southwestern Grille & Cantina on Maybank Highway is a great place to get quick Southwest food that is fresh and delicious. The food here is tasty and well prepared and they do everything quickly here and still maintain really good quality. The staff here works really hard to make sure that you are well taken care of and get good food.

Extra large chunks of onion and green peppers. Over all , not impressive. Moes rules Tex Mex

Great service and always fresh meat and toppings for the burritos. I definitely recommend Barberitos over Moe's or chipotle.

Every element worked together beautifully without overpowering the dish. The guacamole was exactly what great guacamole should be, creamy with just the right amount of texture, perfectly ripe avocados, fresh lime, and balanced seasoning that made it hard to stop eating. The Spanish rice, tomatillo sauce, and pinto beans were all equally delicious and clearly made with care and attention to flavor. We sat at the bar and really enjoyed chatting with our friendly and enthusiastic bartender, which made the experience even more memorable. Service, atmosphere, and food were all outstanding. Paying with Blackbird was an added bonus and made the evening even better. Looking forward to coming back again soon.

While the queso and the meat were good (not much of it though), everything else left a lot to be desired. The sauces were not good and kind of ruined the food for me. I'm surprised by how unimpressed we were. It's certainly not awful but wasn't worth $70 for two dinners (no alcohol). I don't recommend it and don't think we'll be back, unfortunately.

It's not my favorite type of Mexican restaurant, as it's a little more upscale than I *personally* prefer, but if upscale Mexican is your vibe, then this'll be the perfect restaurant for you! They had an alright selection of beers, to include a couple of IPAs, but my friends and I didn't really enjoy their cocktails. They were expensive, but lacking in much flavor or zest. Besides looking cool, the taste didn't really match the aesthetic. Furthermore, the food was solid, but not that much better than your basic Mexican restaurant. As for the service, our waiter was nice enough, but he always seemed to be in a hurry, and was walking away while we were still trying to give our order. All-in-all, I'm probably making Matador sound worse than it was, but it was merely a slightly above-average Mexican experience, not a transcendental dining experience that I'll never forget. I'll give it 3/5 stars, and would recommend it based on your personal preference.

The experience got off to a poor start at the door. The doorman handed out 21+ wristbands without even checking IDs, which didn't inspire much confidence. Once inside, the restaurant was uncomfortably hot because the air conditioning either wasn't working or wasn't keeping up. It made watching the game pretty miserable. We also had an issue with seating. The owner refused to seat us until at least 50% of our group had arrived, despite there being more than eight empty tables available throughout the restaurant. The policy seemed unnecessary given how many open tables there were. For a sports bar, the TV setup was surprisingly bad. None of the TVs were synchronized--one was live, another was about 20 seconds behind, another was nearly 45 seconds behind, and the audio didn't match any of them. Every big play was spoiled by people cheering from another part of the restaurant before we even saw it happen. The food was mediocre at best. I ordered the steak, chicken, and shrimp tacos. The steak and chicken were both dry enough that I had to drench them in salsa just to make them enjoyable. Later, a friend arrived and pulled up an empty chair to join us. The owner immediately told us we had to move because the chair was supposedly blocking the aisle for his staff. Normally I'd understand that, but there were four empty tables surrounding us, so there were plenty of other options that could have been handled more professionally. I've been here before for Tuesday night trivia, but after this experience I can confidently say I won't be coming back. If you're on King Street, there are plenty of restaurants and bars that offer better food, better service, and a much better atmosphere. If you're visiting Charleston, I'd recommend skipping El Jefe and spending your time and money somewhere else.

The process is a bit confusing as far as grabbing a menu then ordering at the counter then they bring your food, so we decided to sit at the bar where it's full service. The bartender was amazing. She had recommendations and let me try a drink before fully committing. We ordered the Golden Hour fries with yum yum sauce (amazing), the crab rangoons, pulled pork noodles and red beans and rice with chicken. The crab rangoons are not what you think of for traditional rangoos. They're actually hush puppies with a crab dip. The hush puppies are incredible and we just spooned the dip on top. Different but delightful. The pulled pork noodle bowl was a bit of a let down. It truly was just a heap of noodles and some pork. The pork was really really good, but I was surprised the noodles had no flavor and overwhelmed the bowl. The red beans and chicken had much more flavor, it was bone in chicken however the flavor was really nice. The drink menu is thoughtfully curated and crafted with some really unique options. We tried a highball and a frozen drink and both were really tasty. Next time I think I will order a BBQ plate so I can have more of the actual meat because it was really good, but I'm glad I tried something a little different.
