Fish taco Friday. That's it. The place is a dive style place handled by a diverse staff that obviously enjoy their jobs. . Met Cory, the owner, and truly enjoyed our conversation. He's a real hands on owner. I was impressed and loved my tacos. My first Fish Friday will not be the last! read more

First time trying it, loved it! Spicy chicken burrito was amazing - good salsas were the cherry on top. Highly recommend plus the staff were so friendly read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would do it in a heartbeat. I walk in here two guys basically food all over the counter long hair hanging over the food. It looks like they have two Beach Bums They got done with high school after they smoked a bong!!! what a joke and unprofessional and unsanitary no pride zero pride. read more

Just moved in to a new apartment in John's Island with my fiancé. We ordered for pick up while we continued to unpack. The order was completely wrong. She does not eat gluten so ordered 2 corn tacos. The only thing they got right was the chicken. Aside from almost every single topping in the taco being incorrect they also served it in a flour tortilla instead of corn. Waste of time and money. Atleast the guac was decent. read more

Never leave reviews but felt compelled to here. I have been twice - the food was OK the first time, but the shorter girl who works there was incredibly rude. The second time she was there again and even more rude than the first time. They forgot half my order and never apologized. The half we did get was pretty bad (burrito bowl). I live close by and wish this place didn't suck, there are very few good fast casual options in Charleston. read more

I have a good and bad view of this place. I personally think they make some of the best burritos around and have the best chips I have ever had, but certain things throw me off. I often find an inconsistency in the food/service sometimes when I come. Certain times I can order with ease but certain times it gets very difficult to get my food especially when I'm rushing out. I have had employees straight up interrupt me to talk to their co workers literally right after they asked me what I wanted on my burrito. I have had employees not even roll up my burrito because they were too busy talking to their coworkers (I got a folded up burrito that came apart instantly) And then finally there was I time I walked in and no one else was ordering, the employees all looked at me and stumbled around on their phones before waiting a solid 5 minutes before taking my order (not saying anything to me at all) And worse of all the price of their food has gone up, and as this occurs, so does the stuff I speak about above. You end up getting all of this for roughly $20+ if you want a small side of queso and a drink. Not to mention they've taken a Chipotle esque approach with their profit and inventory margins. I assume this isn't the stores fault rather corporate telling them to put the most miniature scoops of protein on a burrito. You're left with a lettuce and cheese burrito with sour cream but at least the chips were good ‍.Nice people that work there but some of them can come off rude, even though I don't think they meant it maliciously. Keep doin y'all's thing with the food cause I enjoyed the burrito you got right, I just truly hope your brand doesn't get tarnished by a greedy corporate trying to suck up every penny. Love you guys! read more

I asked for a bowl, it took about 15 minutes to make, it was $15 with no drink or sides, the bowl was a minuscule amount of food, comical amount almost. When I asked if I could get some extra, the boy Harrison said no and laughed in my face. read more

The restaurant itself is damp and uninviting. I used the bathroom in the back, which was very dirty and not well maintained. My meal was of poor quality, and for what I was charged, I could have gotten a much better experience at almost any other fast casual spot in town for less. My first time there and I will not be returning. read more

I can see where somebody will give three stars but I gave four and this is why. There's a Mexican restaurant right down the street. Normal Mexican look where you can sit down and have a meal. They offer the same genre of food but what they offer is a faster more convenient way here. And because of that slight difference they delivered on that. As compared to normal Mexican restaurants they would definitely be a three stars but that's not what they're trying to do. You have to understand what the business is trying to provide. I'm just saying that because I read some of the reviews and I think they're looking at it the wrong way. There was an employee who kept pulling his pants up every two seconds. There's something so not clean about that. Can we get that handled please? Loved the guacamole. Better than I imagined. Can we keep the salsa bowls by the register full? I had to turn it to the side to scoop out the corners cuz they were both empty. And they were both pretty good. The green one being my favorite. First time I ever seen ground turkey in a Mexican restaurant. I don't know about that one lacked a lot of flavor. Nice try though. they had a lot of locals coming in so that was good traffic. More traffic than the Mexican restaurant down the street to be honest. Love the mango salsa little bit of heat in there. Pretty decent prices. I can see myself coming back. It's a pretty good location for people coming back and forth from Johns Island to James island. Let's get some uniforms on these employees. The spicy chicken was decent but kind of salty. They only serve fish on Fridays I believe but the way the meat look when I was in there in the middle of the week not 100% sure I would trust that. read more

Great service and always fresh meat and toppings for the burritos. I definitely recommend Barberitos over Moe's or chipotle.

The location of the restaurant is 10/10, but unfortunately the food isn't. I ordered a bowl with a side of queso. The bowl tasted like a worse version of what I would cook at home - definitely missing seasoning and flavor. The price certainly didn't reflect the quality. I liked that it was fast casual and offered plenty of parking, but it seemed like the food had been sitting out for a while. I would love to see them revamp some of their menu offerings and include fresher ingredients with more flavor and spice. If you're looking for tacos, I would recommend El Molino in West Ashley! read more

It's like a better version than your average "go down the line and tell them how to build your perfect tacos/bowl/salad/burrito/quesadilla/etc." All of the food seems fresher and there are definitely similar and different offerings. Always more than enough food and I love the price. Also a big fan of their fish and chips. Always some sort of fun music playing and great staff! read more

If you seek a fast and healthy burrito, burrito bowl, taco or just chips and guacamole, this is a great solution for those lunch and dinner needs when you just don't want to cook. Pre-order mini burrito was accurate, on time, and very yummy. Chips and salsa were also yum!

Placed a to-go order. My order is pictured next to the most SORRY burrito bowl I've ever seen. No salsa was added, MAYBE a scoop of chicken and rice, and there's more lettuce that chicken and rice combined. Never order pick-up from here. Also go into the restaurant and make sure you get your money's worth. UPDATE: the rice isn't even cooked. $22 down the drain... read more

Barberitos - a plate of salad and a bowl of dressing - Tex-Mex Near Me - Charleston, South Carolina

Barb's makes my favorite spicy chicken taco. I always get the same thing because I love it so much (although I have tried the burritos and quesadillas in the past, and I can confirm they are delicious). I come here at least once a week, more if I'm lucky. The chips are thin and crispy, so yummy! The staff is super friendly and laid back. Joel always checks on us and asks if everything was good. They have a great patio, and I love sitting outside when the weather is nice. read more

With all the similar burrito bars in the world, there's subtle differences that separate one from the other. Barberitos excels in some areas and falls short in others, but overall I enjoyed the place and would definitely go back. Pros: -Freshness is a top priority and they don't even own a freezer up in here. -The whole place is super clean and the staff is very welcoming and friendly. -Options for flavored wraps and unique proteins like ground turkey, three different types of lettuce (the spinach is underneath in the fridge... just ask), and toppings like fresh cucumber or avocado. -They have queso dip (some don't... I'm looking at you Chipolte) and it comes in large quantities too. -Free chips. They're almost too thin, but they're free (quit charging for chips Q'doba!). -The good ice... you know what I mean Cons: -Although the staff is very customer service focused, they weren't the fastest bunch. One picky customer ahead of you can really hold things up. -With up-charges for a bunch of little things like $.90 for sour cream, guac, or avacado, you can end up with a pricey burrito in no time. -As I mentioned, the chips are too thin for my liking. As you can see, the pros strongly outweigh the cons. It seemed to me the best way to distinguish between all these similar entities of fast-casual tex-mex dining. read more

Barberitos - Burrito - Tex-Mex Near Me - Charleston, South Carolina

Unfortunately, not the Barberitos I am familiar with. The food was quite flavorless, the salsa tasted watered down and kept without refrigeration...next to the cash register. The produce was turning as well. Even worse, you could over hear the staff making fun of the customers. Won't be back. Miss what this company used to be. read more

We LOVE Barberitos! We only go here when my boyfriend plays golf at the muni so needless to say I always say yes when he asks if he can go golfing!! Literal garbage and staff is terrible Wasn't even sure if they were serving me or not I can home pumped to try my burrito and I would have rather eaten the cardboard Amazon box that was already at my apartment and saved the $15 because it would have tasted better read more

The staff have this same issue with closing down early. Tonight it was over 15 minutes early. It has been earlier in the past. The food is generally ok, on par with other southwest mex joints like California Tortilla or Moe's. Just happens to be convenient to work locations for my girls. The staff really need to get it together. read more

Terrible service --- slow and clueless. Salsa splatters all over counter near register. I asked for lime , they were out at counter, young lady went to back and was gone 2 minutes searching for limes. She came out with lines and she forgot to put lime wedges in my box. Guac was not included and cost $1.39 for a spoonful -- I declined guac and bought some at grocery store (cheaper and I have extra guac left). The veggies were too chunky, especially the onions (big chunks of onion too strong). Chips super salty (yes expect salted chips, but tasted like I was eating a salt shaker. 2 large containers self serve of salsa near register -- I was scraping bottom of salsa Verde to get enough to put in cup. The young lady at counter saw me so this and heard me mention it was almost gone. All she said was "it's really good" and did not refill it. Moes is a lot better in quality and taste, as well as cleaner. I signed up on Barbaritos app for rewards and young lady rung me up before I could scan app for rewards at register. Even though Babaritos is right next to where I live, I will go the extra few miles to eat at Moe's, West Ashley from now on. read more

Barberitos - Extra large chunks of onion and green peppers. Over all , not impressive. Moes rules Tex Mex - Tex-Mex Near Me - Charleston, South Carolina

On first glance, Barberitos has a lot in common with rival tex-mex giant Moe's. But a closer look reveals very important differences. To start with, no one yells out a desperate, soulless "welcome to barberitos" every time the door opens. Big plus. Also, they make their pico from fresh tomatoes every day. In fact, all of their ingredients, with a few exceptions, taste much fresher and more delicious than their counterparts at Moe's. My only beef is with their chips and salsa. They dish out giant handfuls of chips with every order, and there's a free salsa bar, but the quality of both is mediocre at best. I've never understood why it's so difficult for places like Barberitos and now-defunct So-Cal Burritos to make a tasty batch of salsa, especially when their pico de gallo is so great. Yo Burrito does it right, mostly, but Barberitos' salsa is over-salted and lacking in flavor. That really is my only complaint, however. They offer plenty of vegetarian options, including very tasty chipotle tofu and sauteed veggies. Staunch Catholics should be delighted by their Fish Taco Friday specials. Their decor is, um, highly motivated, but the place is generally clean and the staff are pleasant and competent. Ooh, I almost forgot: 2 for $4 domestic or 2 for $5 imported bottled beers all the time! And they have some good choices, including Pacifico and Anchor Steam. read more

Barberitos - Beef Quesadillas - Tex-Mex Near Me - Charleston, South Carolina

I came for dinner tonight and wish I didn't. More than an hour before closing and they were out of beans, guacamole, tomatoes, pico, and a bunch of salsas. The two girls working were very young and didn't want to get refills of anything. Both used their HANDS to scoop the corn salsa. So unsanitary. I think a food grader would die if they witnessed that. read more

I'm not sure why I've heard so many good things about Barberitos. Today was my first visit to a Barberitos. It was very dirty, exemplified by a halved, rotten avocado sitting out close to the glass where the food is kept. The portions are only half the size of those you get at Chipotle and Moes, especially the Burrito Bowl, for the same price. The rice doesn't even seem to be seasoned and the salsa looked like canned tomatoes that had been smashed into a slimy purée. To top it all off, my food came in a plastic CVS Pharmacy bag... read more

I dont get why my Yelp didn't see this listed as a restaurant. Only when I typed tex mex it came up. I had a hard time figuring out the menu prices. The menu is kinda confusing. Our food was good but not really any better than Moe's. Kinda the same type restaurant. The workers seemed friendly and helpful. I think my burrito was rolled up wrong. All the meat was on one side and rice one the other. The chips were good but all crunched up. Only 2 kinds of salsa to choose from. Guess I'm spoiled by Moe's. I asked the manager about Yelp and he said he doesn't read Yelp. Guess he doesn't care that much. Oh well, it's still an average place and I would go back. read more

Barberitos - Steak burrito loaded with meat - Tex-Mex Near Me - Charleston, South Carolina

Solid meal for a good price. Food is always super fresh and tasty. You get free chips and a decent choice of salsas for free. The ordering process is simple. Just tell them what you want and move down the line to add your toppings. We went at noon on a Sunday and it was slammed, but the line moved pretty quickly. Definitely worth a visit if your looking for a good meal for a good price. In my opinion they blow away Chipolte, Quodba, or Moe's. read more

I used to be a fan of Moe's until I had Barberitos. I find myself planning errand runs around getting lunch here. They focus on giving you super fresh food. My first visit they told me that their meat arrives fresh every morning and is never frozen and you can honestly taste the truth of that statement. A large line of people will slow up the works but they just want to make sure that your order is exactly what you want so you can't fault them for it. They've got some great protein options and plenty of toppings. The ground turkey is particularly good and it's a healthier alternative to beef so it's not heavy or greasy at all. And who doesn't love free chips? Definitely stopping by whenever I'm on James Island. read more

We must have hit Barberitos after their Friday night rush. It was impossible to find a table free of chip remnants. Out of the 10+ beer varieties, only 3 were available/cold. The prefab decor feels a little like the mall food court, or any other sparsely decorated fast food chain. But the service was surprisingly attentive, and options were plentiful. The food was OK, but like Laura notes, you'll be tempted to bring your own salsa on your next visit. Thumbs up for having a vegan burrito, thumbs down for the lack of margaritas! read more

My Fridays are never complete without their jerk fish tacos, which I believe should be available every single day of the week, but I will settle for one. The rest of the menu is good enough to keep me coming back Sunday thru Thursday. My mouth tends to water when I walk in, and observe a fresh portion of chicken being cooked on the grill. I agree with one previous reviewer, in that the absence of a greeting from an employee every single time, which may or may not be enforced by management in other various establishments, is quite welcoming in itself. Sometimes a regular such as myself will get a "what's up?," other times if it's crowded, understandably just a "what can I get for you?" I signed up today for the opportunity to eat FREE at Barberito's for a year. What a luxury that would be!! If only by some twist of fate, I got the email notifying me that I was the lucky one. I hope it doesn't end up in my spam folder, and I neglect to check it, while this too good to be true offer slips away. read more

5 Stars for cleanliness, food quality, and atmosphere, but what really puts Barberitos over the top is their employees! Every time I have been in I have found nothing shy of genuine smiles, not only to the customers but to each other as well. And let's be real, true glee towards a fellow employees is a rare commodity these days! The last couple of times I have gone in to eat, I have had the pleasure of being accompanied by two handsome young gentlemen, both under the ages of 4. The staff, both times on their own accord, was insistent on helping us to a table. The food is fresh and, as my dinner date puts it, "num nummy"! The staff has always been hit and miss but the food was fine. On my recent visit the place was so dirty. After going here, I have to say this is one of the best big burrito chains, second only to Taco Cabana that I've been to, and better than Chipotle/Qdoba. And a million times better than Moe's. Even the tofu burrito was really good. read more

food needs more flavor and they forgot the sour cream on the nachos. Chips are good though and very large portions

I love Barberitos! I feel like if all the best parts of Moe's and Chipotle had a one night stand, Barberitos would be the love child.
