I was in need of a new roof and Ron from Barbera Home Improvement quoted me a great price for a tear off and two new skylights, which they recommend replacing since they are original and my house is 24 years old. I wouldn't want to wait for them to start leaking before deciding to replace them! Duh. This was the third contractor I received an estimate from and BHI's price was by far the best! Their price for a tear off was on par with a "roof-over" price from their competitors, so that's what I went with. A "roof-over" is where they install new shingles on top of your existing ones instead of removing them beforehand. I also had them add a small section of gutter and a downspout since my house was missing this for some reason. When looking for a roofer, I wasn't just looking for the lowest quote, but also a company that is reputable and has been around for years, so BHI fit the bill. Their reviews on Yelp, Angie's List, Home Advisor, and the Better Business Bureau were good. I signed the contract and put a $1000 down payment and scheduled a day for the job to be done. The dumpster, shingles and other materials were delivered the day before the scheduled job and the crew got started quickly the day of. They worked quickly and efficiently to remove my old roof and install the new. The foreman was really nice and made sure I was aware of any issues and mentioned that he needed to come inside the house to verify that the skylights were centered before sealing them onto the roof. They did find an issue around my windows where water was getting in between the siding. This was the source of the leak I found in my garage ceiling. The foreman informed me that they would remove the siding and add some flashing to cover the area and put waterproof underlayment over top of it because the builders didn't install any when the house was built. Bastards... They did a through job of cleaning up debris and going over my yard with a magnetic rake to pick up any nails. I only found a few nails they missed. It's impossible to get every one of them. During their inspection before leaving, they found that a shingle had damaged the screen on one of the windows, so they made sure they fixed it with a new screen before leaving. Awesome! The limited lifetime warranty from the single manufacturer and the 10 year limited warranty on labor from BHI has me assured that I'll be covered if something happens. Praying for no leaks! My only gripe is that some of Ron's response to calls, texts and emails weren't prompt enough in my opinion. My last call to him to follow up on the leak fix under the window wasn't returned, so I mentioned that to the ladies at the office when I went to pay my balance in person instead of mailing it. They informed the owner, John and he called me right away. If you need a new roof or siding, don't hesitate to call Barbera for a quote! read more

In the process of selling our house, the inspector claimed to find issues with our roof and it was causing an issue with our agreement with the buyer. I called BHI after using them before when we had pest dig into a old spot on our roof and they repaired that flawlessly. John came out, inspected our roof and gave me an estimate the same day to take care of the issues found. Contracted them to remove, and replace a roof and install new gutters on a rental property of mine. They called me 20 minutes into the job and told me all of the wood on the roof required replacement. The adder was $3000! I later found out the wood was fine, they just didn't have the right shingles to install on planks, they had shingles for plywood. They also did not pull the required permit, and the rear down spout emptied into the ground, in code violation. So shame on me for not halting the job, but shame on them for the unethical way in which they bid the job. I will not hire them again. read more

My family contracted with Barbera Home Improvement to put a new roof on our house on-March 13, 2019. The roofers took every shingle off the front of the roof and every shingle off the back of the roof. Then they knocked and on the door and said "We have to replace all of the plywood on your house or we cannot continue the job". This was going to cost an additional $1,680. Since Cleveland was expecting 50 mile an hour winds that night, we felt we had no choice but to pay the additional $1,680 and get a roof on our house. This additional charge would have been more credible had they not taken all of the shingles off before saying something. At 4:00pm, before the clean up was finished, a worker knocked on my door and handed me his cell phone. The salesman from Barbera was on the phone and asked me to pay for the entire job, including the additional $1,680, right now. I refused because I didn't have an updated invoice, had not had a chance to see if any damage was caused and the job was not completed. The salesman then asked if I could pay the original amount excluding the $1,680 so that he could "pay the workers". Again, I refused. After the clean up was completed, we inspected the exterior roof and in the interior ceilings. Our roof has a 10 foot area outside the main bedroom that does not have a soffit. This was the only place where damage occurred. Six quarter-to-half inch deep holes the size of a quarter of plaster were knocked off the ceiling as well as the dry wall was cracked. Also, the roof cap was not extended to the ends of the roof. Before the roof installation was started, I took pictures of the interior walls and ceilings and of the outside of the house. So, I have before and after pictures of the bedroom ceiling to prove the damage was caused by the installation of the roof. Emails were sent to John Barbera on March 18th and 20th regarding the damage. On March 20th, a certified letter along with full payment was sent. On April 2nd, a worker came to our house, looked at the damage and left. On April 15th, a worker dabbed some plaster on the holes saying that was all he was authorized to do. On May 6th, we sent another certified letter regarding the roof cap and ceiling damage. On May 23rd, workers came to our house and completed the roof cap. John Barbera was supposed to come over to see the damage and discuss repairs. It is now August 6th and we are still waiting for him to come over. At this point, we still have a cracked bedroom ceiling with 6 indented areas that are a different color than the rest of ceiling. To have the ceiling fixed properly, we will have to either sue Barbera in court or file a claim against his insurance company. Addendum: We filed a claim with Barbera's insurance company. They said he is not responsible for any damage to the inside of the house. They also stated that since the ceiling had been repaired over 10 years ago, the damage might have resulted from that. The insurance company could have stopped at "he is not responsible...". I read the reviews on the Better Business Bureau and various websites. Had I read this review, I never would have used Barbera Home Improvement. read more

Nine years to the day our roof had a leak. It was literally Dripping from the vaulted ceiling. I called Their office this morning and explained the situation. I was told someone would get back to me at some point today to schedule a time to come out and survey the situation. This left me with very little hope that the issue would be resolved today. That said, John Barbera himself called-my cell and explained he could be to my home within 15 minutes. I did expect someone from his organization to come out today at some point to tell me what the issue was however never would've thought the owner himself would've been on site. John did remember the fact he did our roof and the roof he just did for my parents and Parma about a year ago. While I understand he did his homework Before arriving at my home not many companies would've done that to draw a personal connection with the owner. John grabbed his ladder and hopped up on the roof to assess where the water was coming from. He thought initially it was a couple shingles that perhaps were storm damaged right at the vent line. There was a fair amount of knocking and nailing and I watched him work with brand new cock out of the box to cement those areas that could be part of the problem. When John came down for the roof he explained it appeared as though someone (My son) perhaps use the pressure washer and literally cut through one of the shingles. It taken pictures to show me the evidence of what it happened. I was fully expecting to pay at least $100 for the service call and the fix. John explained absolutely not. In fact he was happy to come out to see how the roof was holding up since it is been nine years. John additionally gave some hints and pointers on how the algae could be prevented in the future because the one slow gets so much shade. When we purchased our roof nine years ago I was quite skeptical about roofing companies as you always hear them being fly by night. Johns operation was recommended to us by a family friend and said this guy won't let you down. JOhn is on site attentive and responsive and has a customer first mentality. John still operates as a sole proprietor and I'm sure could have folded his business into several large name contract companies for roofing. He has chosen to remain independent and greet all customers with a handshake and a smile when the folks that have trusted him and his cruise to do exceptional work with a significant investment in their home have a problem. My experience and recommendation they're not very many companies that you would see this level of customer service and attentiveness with individual customers. If you're even considering going with a different company and have not checked out Barbera home-improvement you're likely spending more than you should have and certainly will not have the level of service required should you encounter a problem several years down the road. Give John a call let him bid your project. You won't be disappointed in the level of professionalism he exhibits with all passed current and potential customers. After today's encounter i'm not sure that I would buy a roof or recommend any other roofing company. read more

I had water coming from my roof onto my front storm door, everything was rotted out. John personally came over and installed a vertical gutter guard to help direct the water flow since the house design is a bit different. Then within the week of the consultation, my front gutter and guard were replaced with a seamless, longer gutter in about a half an hour. Could not be more pleased as all water now winds up in the gutter. They were efficient and thorough. Highly recommended. read more

I cannot even begin to explain what a poor experience I had with this company. To start, Josh had no intentions of listening to me when I tried to tell him what was wrong with my roof. He assured me his solution was the right one and disregarded all I had to say. After the repair, the company double charged me for the work. When I called the company, they assured me there was no way they could double charge and it must be my card's issue. When I called my card company, they told me it was resolved on the company's end, and that the company fixed the double charge. One big rainstorm later, it's raining in my house and the repair (that I told the guy wouldn't fix my roof) DID NOT fix my roof. When I called the company back to see about getting a new roof instead of a repair, Josh actually LAUGHED at me MULTIPLE TIMES and told me I would just have to deal with it raining in my house because he couldn't help me until the spring--he's just too busy. I picked this company because of all of the fabulous reviews I had read, and they were all absolute lies in my experience. I have never felt so disrespected by a company before, and I've never been so angry about the way I was treated over a service I paid for. I will NEVER recommend this company. If you want good customer service, and work that is done correctly, look literally anywhere else. read more

We used Barbera Roofing in April, 2015. We chose them because a local animal shelter had used them and we found out that Barbera donates part of their profits from roof jobs to the animal shelter. They did a fine job for us and in one day completed the house roof and the garage roof. We did not have any issues at all with them. My neighbor ended up calling them to do some shingle repairs for his house. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! We got a quote from Barbera to repair our roof. For six months, we got promises from Barbera that they would come to do our repair... Soon... Next week.... We believed what the Barbera told us-- via phone, text, email and even face to face at our home-- that they would be coming to do our repair. Eventually Barbera would not return our phone calls. After wasting months waiting, we called other roofers for estimates. Every other roofer we called said that the repair proposed by Barbera would not be a proper fix of our problem. Multiple roofers said that while our roof was in good shape and would likely last 20+ years, the repair proposed by Barbera would likely leak in 1-2 years. Thankfully we got another company to properly repair our roof, but we were rushing to get it done before weather turned cold. Barbera proposed an improper repair. Barbera kept saying they would come soon but never did causing us to lose many months waiting. Save yourself and do not use this company. read more
