I happened to be flicking through Yelp the other day and noticed he had opened his own shop with business partner Fabian. Naturally I had to pop along to check it out. It starts with the offer of a cold beer, a comfortable barber chair and a proper consultation about what exactly you are looking for. It then progresses to more hot towels than first class on an Emirates flight and finishes with an amazing head massage which Luke modestly suggested is the reason why people keep coming back. Luke is a really good barber. If the council drafted him in to do all of the road markings in Dublin city centre you could be guaranteed all of the lines would be perfect angles, such is the talent on offer at The Fireplace Barbershop. This is no chop shop so expect to pay a little bit more than your average. In my opinion this is more than just a beard trim or a hair cut. Its an experience - a treat for any man who wants to show himself that he is deserving of such attention to detail. Lots of Barbershops have popped up nowadays offering things like beers and old school fades - but not many are as special as this one on South William Street.

Not the cheap price, the friendly staff, the current magazines or the lack of snobbery. These things all helped but The Academy has the one thing many Irish barbers don't. Anyway - the guys that work here are all friendly and they all get along extremely well with each other and their customers. It is always very clean and well maintained, with two TVs tuned to SkySports. I'm sure there's other barbers that are pretty good in the town - but since I started coming here I've never felt compelled to go elsewhere. I usually go to Rob, he's a good dude and is quick with the shears. Always has a story and laugh so it makes a trip to Rory's a good little visit instead of a chore for a mundane task like a haircut. In fact I used to get my hair cut in Dublin and they always cut off way too much. So now I wait until I'm in work in Kilcock to get it cut. The lady here listens to what you want and my hair always comes out looking great. It all depends on who you get though, and like with anything else too it depends on what kind of a day they're having. Most of the times I've come here were fine I will admit but once or twice my hair was completely butchered and I had to go elsewhere to get it sorted. It's just staff completely disinterested in their job I guess. Maybe after these few years it's time to unfortunately find a new barbers.
