I gotta say to at least give these guys a try! Wonderful experience :) I've been looking for a good barber shop since I've moved back to the San Jose area a couple of years ago. Found this place by accident while having lunch and just thought, "Why not, it's right here." It was a Tuesday afternoon so it wasn't busy, which was great since Sam was able to seat me right away. To be honest, I didn't have high expectations and just needed a hair cut. Sam although changed my mind and we were able to keep a great conversation throughout my haircut, which was a first for me while getting a haircut so that was an awesome plus. Now back to the haircut, I asked Sam just to fix or salvage what happened to my hair after my last haircut and he immediately knew what to do. He took his time and after certain points, he would ask me to take a look at what he's done and if I liked what he did so far. Doing this made me realize that I found my barber! After midway through my haircut, I told him that I wanted to grow out my hair a particular way and he talked hair maintenance and so on. Overall, WONDERFUL experience. The only down side I would say about this place is the price of the haircut and is cash only, but to be honest, I don't even mind. I initially just needed a haircut but Sam was spot on with what type of haircut I wanted and "our" plan to grow my hair lol. It was also a plus that he made me feel like we knew each other for years after our conversation. I am now a returning customer. read more

I've come twice and gotten my haircut done by Angel. Both times he was very kind and consistent with his craft. On my second time visiting here he even remembered what I got for a haircuts showing he cares about his customers. And not to mention the barbershop itself is super cool with a roll up door open to the street, dope retro paintings on the wall, and classic hits playing. The barbers were nice, welcoming. The online scheduling tool needs work cause it let me book but the barber was 20 mins late cause he was likely not aware of it being added. I shouldn't have been able to book it, so don't book online appointments same day unless they are already working for the day. They are cash only which really irritates me. The cut I got was beard line up and trim. It was fine. Not stellar. The barber seemed to be the mayor of the corner and many people stopped by to talk to him so there were quite a few interruptions. Overall it was clean but lacked finesse in the shape and fade. But in all fairness I never went there before and it might be better if he knew my face. I would probably go back if I were in a pinch but probably not my main barber. The setup and design of the place is nice enough. Very bro-y. I can see how basic dudes like it and I'm sure it is a good draw. The Brazilian blowout bar looked to be a little more professionally managed on that side though I know they are in the same company. this is the second time I've gone to this barbershop and I waited for my second time to write this review to see if it could save itself. it's dirty, they drop the scissors the guards everything you can think of on the floor even the brushes they wipe your face with. they don't clean them off they just pick them up and keep using them. on top of that they don't know how to cut hair, I asked for a simple mid fade. a buzzcut. I have extremely short hair. it took their guy 2 hours and he still did a terrible job, one side of my head is shaved and the other isn't, I'm gonna have to go to a second barber today just so I don't look so bad. and on top of ALL of that. they charge just as much if not more than other places. $53.50 for a simple buzz cut mid fade, I could see 35 with this level of expertise but they charging just like the big guys, go to a real barbershop not this street side mess. read more

Men's haircut is nominally higher quality than other shops in the area, but at a $55 price tag. Online scheduling tool (or shop booking process) needs work, barber was 30+ minutes behind schedule the last two times I came in. Good cut if you have the time to wait and inclination to pay more than comparable businesses. The barbers are friendly and the experience is classic, but I likely won't be returning. read more

Barber Bar is in a heavy foot traffic area of San Pedro Market. Barber Bar offered beer and had a television with whatever sports game was on. I have searched long and hard for a good barber. I stumbled upon this place by chance when I walked through San Pedro one day for lunch. I had a messed up haircut, saw Barber Bar, and asked if anyone could fix my hair. Hang answered up and said he could take care of me after I got off work. My initial haircut was so messed up that I didn't think there was any way to salvage it. Hang is a wizard with his fades. He fixed my haircut with such a clean and close fade. I always see differences in how different barbers go about their procedure for cutting hair. I could just tell that Hang was a master at this craft and he really had a good understanding at what he was doing. After my first haircut with Hang, I decided to come back. Hang is able to completely understand what I want and executes it perfectly. Hang knows what looks best for your type of hair and shape of your head. Hang is a perfectionist and has never left me disappointed. Not only is Hang's haircuts 10/10, he is a great dude to talk to and be around. I feel like I'm going to a super laid back therapy session while getting my haircut. Hang truly listens and cares about his clients, which is a huge testament of his repeat clients. I finally found the barber that I will always go back to as long as he is cutting hair in the Bay Area. I have been going to Hang for a year now, and I finally am giving him the review he deserves. JJ...the cool cat that cut my hair on a moment's notice at 715pm (without an appointment)...just began working here three days ago, so my review is for JJ and the facility today and going forward. So the place sits in a great location in the indoor San Pedro market....chock full of bars and restaurants, so the vibe is pretty cool already. I got lucky...JJ had a no-show, so he saw me straight away and went to work. Nice hot towel service on the face while my hair got washed...good stuff. Then, he just crushed my haircut!! I'm pretty particular when it comes to this event which happens every few weeks up in Chicago with the same person alllllll the time, but I'm not going to have time to get a buzz when I get back in town, so this was a HUGE leap of faith for me letting a stranger cut my hair. Truth be told, I'd get on a plane and come back here every three weeks if I could. I have a thick and curly mop of hair on my head...I mean this thing breaks combs on a regular basis, it's so thick. JJ took my monstrously cantankerous head of hair and cut and shaped it into a masterpiece that Picasso would be proud of. I just had my hair cut from Nikk!!! Superb service and I had a great first time experience! The place is pretty hip in the middle of the busy San Pedro market place. Nikk gave me a quick consultantation of what style I wanted and he mastered it with his talented artistry.
