Recently started coming here after 10+ years at a mom & pop shop. Alex M has taken care of my hair twice and couldn't be happier. The shop has great music, is very clean & all the staff is polite. Be sure to make your appointments well in advance as appointments go fast! Thanks again, Alex! read more

Baby's first perm! It's me. I'm baby. Booked the night before with Rich Hoang -- stalked his IG and saw he specialized in the type of loose wave perm I wanted. Came in with some inspo pics (Hudson Williams, 90s Keanu, Jackie Chan shag vibes). Rich was very patient and knowledgeable, he indulged my questions about everything. We made a game plan on how to trim and layer my hair and what I was going for. I LOVE THE RESULTS. It's literally the kind of style I want to effortlessly have but can rarely achieve bc mi hair soy super Asian (kapow!). I'm so glad I did it (finally) and looking forward to enjoying it. Highly recommend! read more

This review is long overdue. Almost 8 years in fact. JJ has been taking care of me for as long as I can remember. It all started with a cold call to the shop / getting an appointment with JJ back in 2018, in which turned into entrusting him with cutting my hair since. This is THE guy, let me tell you. JJ is the most laid-back, coolest, most sincere barber I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. I truly look forward to every appointment I have to get freshened up / vent / chat with him. My dude has been with me through thick and thin, life and hair literally. From weekly buzz-cuts to now bi-weekly scissor-cuts, he has always gone above and beyond to make my experience the best it can be. If you are looking for a barber in San Jose, please, look no further and book an appointment with JJ ASAP! You will not be disappointed with the exceptional service you receive. Thank you for everything brother!!! read more

I've been getting my hair cut by DT for almost two years now, and he's hands-down the best barber I've ever had. I've even followed him through a couple of shop changes, because when you find someone this good, you stick with them. DT is incredibly consistent and really takes pride in his work. Every cut is clean, sharp, and exactly what I'm looking for. What I really admire about him is how invested he is in his craft, he's always learning new techniques, trying to improve, and you can tell he genuinely cares about giving his clients the best. On top of that, he's just a chill, easy-to-talk-to guy, which makes every visit feel laid-back and comfortable. Paradox itself is a stylish little shop tucked away on the second floor of a small plaza. Parking can sometimes be tricky depending on the day, but there's always street parking nearby if the lot's full. If you're looking for a barber who's dedicated, skilled, and genuinely cares about his clients, go see DT at Paradox. Worth every visit! read more

Shout Out to Bryan Ocean. He's extremely nice, professional and provides critique to hope you look the best. He knows how to blend a fade really well. read more

- Great vibe. There will sometimes be a popular show that they pick off Netflix or sometimes have some music playing too. The staff there are very talkative and nice. They will usually spark up some conversation with you. - Price. It does go into more into the expensive side ($60 per cut) but I usually go to my regular barber which is DT. So prices may vary around that range. - Worth the money? It does for me. Because there is no one else around the bay that can do my hair correctly except for DT. I have a naturally permed hair and DT is the only person there that can do me right. Plus he continues to learn and adapts to new styles that are trending too over the course of 2 years knowing him. - Overall? As I can't say for the entire staff but if you do need a men's haircut and down to try out new styles, then DT is the perfect person to book for. Everyone there does have their own ways in styling and cutting but overall all of them look pretty amazing. read more

Come get a great cut at a great price. Lively and clean place with barbers who care about their work. They take the time to give you advice and make recommendations on hair care. Dudes!! Yes, the shampoo makes a difference. Parking is limited so consider parking at Walgreens and cross the street. Shop is upstairs. DT is great. read more

Appointments were really easy, except they are set up by barber and we didn't know anyone so we did by service and got our time. The appointment went well, it took the full hour but didn't seem rushed. Decent waiting area/ bar, and some minor merch. It actually was L's favorite part. He got a really nice mock neck long sleeve for l Iike 30 bucks. Great cut, good guys, easy appointment. read more

Since I moved to San Jose, over a year ago, I've been getting cut by DT. Following from shop to shop. He's invested in the craft, always learning and trying to improve. He's consistent and takes pride in his work. He's a chill laid back guy, definitely recommend DT to anyone read more

I've gone here twice and will be coming back for the long term. The vibes are chill and everyone cracks jokes. DT is an amazing barber, always constantly looking to improve and try new things. He takes his time with his cuts and so far each cut has been better than the previous. Highly recommend DT and other barbers here! read more

Huge shout out to Bryan Lee!! Today was my first time getting my haircut at Paradox, and my hair cut is 10 out of 10!! It was cool talking to Bryan and letting him know what kind of hairstyle cut I wanted. The dude is understanding, and I am definitely coming back. Thank you! I'm looking forward to the alternative down perm! read more

Highly recommend Mika for scissor cuts. She took her time layering and texturing my hair and did it exactly how I wanted and asked for.

I've been getting my hair cut by Mike P at Paradox for 3 years now. Every cut exceeds my expectations! Whether you know what haircut you want, or if you need help deciding, Mike does an amazing job bringing it to life. He takes his time and makes sure no part of the cut is rushed. I have, and will continue to recommend Mike to family and friends. Both Paradox locations overall are great upscale barbershops in San Jose. Nice locations, clean, and give that relaxed, but fun, barbershop experience. read more

I'm extremely particular when it comes to my hair so finding someone like Alex at Midtown was a game changer. He understands that every head shape is different and tailors each cut with that in mind. I have curly hair, two cowlicks, and a flat spot in the back -- not the easiest combo but Alex's layering skills are next-level. Every time I book with him, I know I'm walking out with a great cut. The shop itself has great vibes, and the conversation is always solid. Highly recommend. read more

I've been going to JJ for about 8 years now and I can say he is definitely the most consistent barber I've ever had. He makes trying out new hairstyles seem fun rather than intimidating. JJ will explain the process of each step, if you were to ask about it, in a way that's easy for people who don't know much about hair to understand. Overall, a great professional that's very welcoming and easy to talk to! read more

Big shoutout to DT for his excellent service! My cuts have always come out clean, precise, and most importantly consistent. Great service from Bryan Lee. A bit intimidated since it was my first time going to a barbershop but great vibes and staff help a lot.

5 star service from our barber, DT. He has been the barber for my son and I have for the last few years. In fact, we have followed him from his 2 previous locations. Finding someone that can cut hair well, is not that difficult. What I appreciate about DT is his professionalism, always training & studying to improve at his craft and of course, his conversations, not just with me but with my son, who will talk his ear off. The vibe is positive, the other barbers very friendly as well, always greeting and thanking clients for coming in. Highly recommend DT for all of your barber needs. read more

Brought my 7 year old for his birthday and he had the best experience. Not only did he get a cool hair cut, he was also impressed by his barbers ( Andre) Pokémon card. Not only was Andre super cool, he accommodated my sons haircut on a Friday when everyone else was off. We were the only ones there. Definitely one of my best experiences and one my son won't forget. After this fun experience we headed over next door to a comic book store and, what do you know. Pokémon galore! read more

Scheduled an appointment 2 weeks ago for 12pm with David Huang. I arrived at 11:55AM and was greeted by another barber. I was told that David Huang is currently busy and almost finished with his last guest. I was asked to sit and wait. I got a bad vibe right off the bat. I ended up waiting 30 minutes before David Huang finally walked up to greet me. He was very nonchalant the entire 55 minutes that he spent with me and he totally butchered my haircut. David Huang also denied my polite request to fix his poor work... not only did my barber do a terrible job but the entire shop seems to have zero respect for their customers. What kind of business offers appointments and then confirms said appointment, only to make me wait 30 minutes upon my arrival? A terrible business does that. This will be my one and only visit here. Avoid this shop if you value your time. read more

Bryan Ocean has been my go-to barber for years and who I always have a great experience with. I wasn't always sure of how to ask for a specific hairstyle, but once you become a regular he does an amazing job of learning exactly what look you're going for. Occasionally, they sponsor events/parties for the public which are always a plus if you're into that as well. What more can I say, other than they have a super chill environment, and friendly staff. Products, services are always held up to the highest of standards in here. read more

Not happy at all with the hair cut. Been to many new hair salons, this salon was the worst of them all. Not every hair texture and head shape is same, and I would have been happy if there was some effort taken to understand the texture and adjust that with the head shape. Literally have hair horns on the back. Shows how well it was cut. I've never experienced a haircut with me facing away from the mirror for the full 1 hour, not knowing what was even going on. Learnt something new. Utter disappointment at the Midtown. read more

Alex did an awesome job on my 15 year old son that is very picky with his haircuts! Definitely coming back to see Alex. Highly recommended. Good location too. read more

Thank you Alex for reviving my son! Stopped by Paradox, Midtown this week and enjoyed everything about it. We will be back!

First time visit (midtown) went more than great. Place is clean and tidy and barbers had a cool atmosphere all around. I read good reviews with Bryan Lee so I scheduled my haircut with him. Bryan is 11/10 and my new go to. He made my first visit pleasant and was very welcoming. As for the haircut, he asked me what I wanted and I told him in short detail of how I wanted it to be and showed a picture of what I found online. He knew immediately what to do and asked me preferences of what I think my haircut should look like, layering-etc. He was very detailed and professional. He told me every step of what he was going to do and by the end it looked exactly like the picture I showed him. This is one of the best cuts I've gotten in a long time and all ready for Thanksgiving, thanks Brian! read more

This was my first time at Paradox, I came in for a scissor cut with senior barber Josh! I was left very happy with the outcome! I hadn't cut my hair in over 7 months and showed Josh a picture of what I wanted. He went above and beyond to make sure that I was happy with the haircut. After I told him what I wanted he washed the product out of my hair explained what his game plan was even explained his techniques as he was cutting which relieved me of the anxiousness of trying a new hairstyle. He even styled it at the end with a blowdrier. This cut is well worth the value, and Josh is the real deal, don't hesitate! read more

2 years later and endless haircuts later-still consistent and still so happy with JR and the entire team. They are all so kind and welcoming when you walk in. They chat and catch up and he listens. read more

I booked an appointment with Martin because he was recommended by my cousin. Turns out he's my brother's barber as well and have been cutting him for years since his garage days. Small world. Anyways, these guys are really professional. I had never done anything other than a buzzcut before, so I wasn't sure what I really wanted to do with my hair. I talked to Martin a bit and decided to keep growing out my hair for a comb-over. He gave me different options with the fade and what not. At the end, I was completely satisfied. The store is upstairs in a small lot. It is next to a tattoo parlor. The store is well lit and very well kept. They have a floor vacuum for all the hair. It's pretty neat. Pricing is fair and honestly, you get what you pay for. I will definitely be coming back here for future cuts. Tips: Schedule online through their website. You can pick your barber and the day/time. read more

Wow. Amazing job, great environment, amazing place for a kid's cut! its so hard to find a good barber in the Bay Area, but wow all the barbers here are top notch. Especially Kris Arceo, who was So Good with my son! Today's cut, Kris has transformed my shaggy son into the super first day of school rock star you see in these photos - amazing! The waiting area is fun (lots of dogs), too. If you love life, post-barber, stop in downstairs at the Italian bakery for handcrafted gelato and incredible treats. (I haven't seen sfogliatelle like that since Italy - WOW!). So: (1) barber, then (2) italian bakery downstairs, for maximum outing. But Kris Arcero is, hands down, 100% worth the trip for us! 10/10 will do this again!!!! read more
