It has been a minute since I came here! The menu Has changed since the last time and it truly blew me out of the water. I got the potatoes to start and the Saturday suadero special with the autumn equinox cocktail to pair (pictured below). The service was outstanding as our waiter took the time to make conversation with us about the menu and personally made us feel welcomed by making Great conversation. The suadero was tender and flavorful. the garnish of picked red onions, habenero sauce, and Carmello tortillas made it simple and elegant as a meal. I can't wait to come back and try more of their menu!

Came with a friend for dinner and we enjoyed ourselves. 1. Dorados tacos were really good. It was a beef chorizo on this day but it changes, so be sure to ask for details. 2. The calabacitas is a veggie bowl. It was okay to me but my friend loved it. Cocktails: Spa water and garden punch both received good remarks from us. Atmosphere: Cute, intimate without being tiny. Service Good. Will return. Can't believe it took me this long to stop in.

Unique, hip, fun place to have dinner date. The queso fondido was the best I've ever had. I wanted to order a second helping. Everything was perfect about it, the cheese, the roasted pepper and onions, and chorizo. The carnitas were delicious and the best non crispy version I've had. The deep flavors of rich fat and cinnamon were delightful. Great tortillas. Drinks were solid and accompanied the food well, but do wish they were better. No show stopper from what we tried. Such a great vibe and the servers seemed to love the place too which is always nice.

Sometimes you want to visit a restaurant that has tons of options to fit your different moods, but sometimes you want to go somewhere that has only a few options executed really well, and that's where Barbacoa shines. The food menu is very slim with a handful of appetizers and four entree options. There were almost more cocktail options than food options! Both the food and drink menus change seasonally. I really enjoyed my cocktails! The Shaken Not Stirred Negroni sour was a perfect accompaniment to my meal. And the Foggy Oaxaca was a really interesting and complex experience as well. For myself, I ordered one appetizer and one entree, and I left totally stuffed! The elote fritters had good flavor but were a little bit dry. Luckily they came with a delicious aioli that saved the bite! The birria was really delicious, and it's impossible for anything to taste bad when wrapped in a Caramelo tortilla. The portion was a little small for the price, but the flavor was on point. The bartender was awesome! Great service. The tables weren't all full on a Friday evening, but they still recommend a reservation. You're limited to street parking to visit Barbacoa. Usually there is available space on this block of Troost but expect a bit of a walk if it's busy.

One of the best upscale Mexican food experiences I have ever had. My husband and I went here last night and sat up at the bar for dinner. Colton, the bartender, welcomed us warmly and went over the cocktails and food menus with us. We started with their margarita and tried a couple of others. We ended with their spin on an espresso martini. Delicious. For dinner, I would have to say that the ceviche and chicken mole were our favorites. The ceviche was served with fried saltines. Genius. So good. Can't wait to go back!

Cool restaurant, went on Thursday night and it was not crowded at all. Very welcoming decor and fairly quiet space that night. Service was really great too. We had an al pastor pork chop that was really nicely seasoned and cooked decently although more on the dry side. The real winner of the night was the suadero brisket! Fatty moist delicious brisket, what's not to love? Id definitely recommend it. Drinks were good but not great, I enjoyed my "Salt and Lime" though. I had the "Beets by Mads" aswell which tasted like beets, who would've thought. Food was good, seemed a tad expensive for what it is but overall I enjoyed my experience and I'd definitely go back. I'll be back for brunch next time.

WOW WOW WOW, is all we could say when they brought plate by plate to our table..the meat is so well seasoned and booked to perfection. The tortillas O.M.G locally made in Lawrence by a small company (we loved them so much we got a pack before we left, can purchase in-house) the cauliflower could have been roasted a little longer, literally my only "complaint" but the flavor was amazing! The star of the show was the sweet potato special, perfectly roasted, the toasted sesame seed crust was a great texture and umami that paired so well with the cream and the chili I still think about it! The best dessert was the arroz con levee brûlée (best part is French and Hispanic cuisine) it reminded me of being a kid again. Do not sleep on this place!

This is the best "elevated" Mexican food I have had. It is a cute little restaurant with a very intimate feel. I had the cornbread to start, the pollo asado and the suadero. The cornbread was dry and the hot honey butter it was served with was nothing special, would not order again. The pollo asado is a smoked half chicken and it was incredible. It was so juicy inside and had perfectly crunchy skin. The suadero was a generous portion of chopped brisket and is exactly what it tasted like. I wish that the suadero was served with a spicy sauce instead of a tomato, sweet sauce that made it taste more like bbq. The pickled onions that were served with it were incredible. I think the menu needs a staple side or two that we could have ordered, there are none right now. The caramelo tortillas are good, as always. The drinks were perfection.

Went here last night and what a nice experience! Was treating my boyfriend to dinner and wanted to get him in proximity to his fave ice cream place in town (High Hopes) so this worked perfectly. First impression is the space is very cute with good lighting and fun artwork. We had reservations and were seated right away and our server came by pretty promptly. I ordered a coke (we were seeing Sensatia at Crown Center so I knew it would be a late night) and my boyfriend got the Beach Snacks cocktail. He says it kind of reminded him of a chutney, like fruity with some herbaceousness, which he enjoyed a lot. They recommend for 2 people to split 3 dishes. Don't come here if your plan isn't to share, since the menu isn't really built for individual entrees. We started with the queso fundido. Oh dear me, delicious! Perfect version and I loved the tortillas, which was good because each of our dishes came with tortillas. We also got the frijoles charros and the suadero. The charro beans were smoky and complex. But the suadero, wow! Incredible brisket. In a bbq town, this really stood out to me. So soft and flavorful. The sauces that came with were really good and the tacos made from these ingredients were so delicious. As I alluded, we didn't stay for dessert but I bet it would be delicious. Service was polite and attentive all night. If I lived closer, this would definitely be a frequent spot. I thought the price was reasonable and I think we easily could have just had the queso and the suadero and been full. But if you get a chance to go, do!

    Queso Fundido

Okay, YUMMMMMMMMMMMM! Everything is about this place is fabulous. We ended up going for brunch and I wanted to to order everything off the menu. We started off with a couple Queso Fundido for the table, served with the famous (THE BEST) Yoli tortillas. HANDS DOWN THE BEST CHEESE DISH EVER. I will admit, the serving is pretty small. We had 6 people at our table and ordered two orders of the Queso. It was enough for everyone to have one tortilla. I ordered the Monies Plate and the serving was actually a GREAT size. It came with the smoked carnitas, refried beans, eggs, fried potatoes and tortillas with a side of salsa. It was all so flavorful and very filling. My husband ordered the Quesa Birria which I took a bite of and was also very fantastic. If you're not a fan of super smoky meats, I wouldn't suggest this menu item. We can't wait to try their dinner menu! One thing that I think would make Barbacoa over the top great: Adding a mocktail menu. I tried to ask for a Mocktail but the waitress seemed very weary about it. Still 5/5 stars!

Grabbed brunch with some friends at Barbacoa and it was delicious! The place is cute, service is friendly. We ordered the chilaquiles, birria tacos, ceviche and esquites, with a few cocktails. I got the Mexican Mule and it was bright and fresh. All of the food was incredible. Best birria tacos I've ever had! I typically like my chilaquiles floating in sauce, and even though these weren't super saucy, they were still delish. The ceviche was incredibly fresh. Will definitely go back for dinner!

We are the type of people that like to try different things, so we have questions and would like some options or opinions from those that work there. She didn't really offer much banter or discussion, poured our drinks, and then left and never really followed up. She sat behind the bar, chatting with what seemed like a friend, and never checked in again. And when we went up to the bar to order another drink, it felt like we were interrupting her chat.
