We attempted to place an order for a cake for MONDAY- since we are in the business of ordering cakes for clients, customers and employees- we usually place the order- pay for it and have someone else pick it up. We placed the order and was told we could not send someone else to pick it up- OK. Then we were told you have to bring your credit card and ID to pick up the cake- Ok. We then called back to cancel the order and place it in the name of someone who could pick it up enroute to work on Monday. We were told that we could not place another order again. Frank, the manager said that he was not going to pay the EIGHT DOLLARS SERVICE CHARGE TO THE CREDIT CARD COMPANY TO CANCEL AND REPLACE THE ORDER. what is happening? I then asked if he understood what he was saying- that he wanted to lose the opportunity to have a cake order now and all future orders because we place an order for at least 6 cakes a game- he said, yep..he was not going to let us place an order for a cake pick up on Monday because he did not want to pay the service fees. He has lost our business and all potential business- did I mention that we were calling from the Cleveland Browns Stadium. How sad. read more

Very fresh baked goods and the baker is super nice. The bakery isn't huge but it's well-organized and is very clean. The girls at the counter were helpful and courteous. We ordered a chocolate chunk cookie, an oatmeal raisin cookie, and a glazed donut. Everything was perfectly fresh and tasted fantastic. You can tell this place uses only premium ingredients, as there's no odd aftertastes as you sometimes experience eating items from bakeries. *not a food review* this about the service we receive there. I lived in maple heights for 25 years and All I ever heard about when it came to Bakery's was Baraona's. Is the food good? Yes. The food there is very good. My problem is the customer service. I have read reviews where people say "they are so friendly and nice". When? I have been there a dozen times in the last 5 years and all I ever get is attitude from the little girls behind the counter. I ask for cookies in the case and they huff and puff at me like I asked them to donate blood. Today was the final straw. My wife called them Thursday April 12th and ordered a cake for a birthday. We arrived today April 14th to pick it up and not only did they not have a cake ready, the older man behind the counter had the balls to ask if we really called. As if we are making the whole thing up in our heads. This is the most overrated bakery I have ever seen. And although it's fresh and local, it doesn't break the bank. Baraona's is very inexpensive. I always go here if I want to pick up a dessert for an event I am going to. Everyone compliments what I bring. Their selection is pretty good for the size of the bakery. They also offer flourless chocolate cake for people who can't eat gluten. Rude! That's the best word I can use for them. I dealt with the constant rude behavior over the years since their strawberry Cassata cakes were their favorite. Last straw was when I arrived to order a graduation cake, near closing time I did not realist was so late, as I am attempting to order the cake & going over the different choices etc. the workers actually started turning off the lights, vacuuming the floor & pulling up the rugs on the floor. Used to frequent this bakery back in 2011 when I worked up the street, and have eaten my share of cassata cakes from here. Now a days I don't get out this way too much so when I knew I would be nearby I knew I needed a cassata cake. I wasn't sure if you could walk right in and get one, but sure enough there were plenty in the fridge. It was a great price, 25 bucks for a small round, where individual slices were 3.75, so it was well worth the price. Baraona's Bakery has ALWAYS has something good in their bakery! If you want a nice little cake then try the strawberry whipped cream cake. It is 7" approx. and is a decent price (around $15) with free lettering included. Baraona's ALWAYS has something unique and deciding on all that you would like is my biggest struggle. Last time I went around the holidays, we purchased the strawberry whipped cream cake, assorted kolacky and a slice of pumpkin cheesecake that was decadent! Baraona's is truly a wonderful little bakery. The only small issue(s) with Baraona's is that the line gets long very easily SO the earlier you get there the better chance you have of getting ALL that you want FRESH and READY! I recently got married, and when planning the wedding with my wife, we had trouble finding an affordable cake and other baked goods. It seemed anywhere we looked hiked up prices when the word "Wedding" was added to the description. I remembered going to Baraona's as a child, and how delicious their Cassata cake and cannoli were, so we contacted them to help with our needs. We purchased a small round Cassata cake for our cake cutting, along with a full sheet cake and 100 large cannoli and spent less for everything combined than we would have just for the cake from anywhere else. Everything was perfectly presented when picked up, and the staff was helpful throughout the entire process, which helped immensely since we were planning the wedding from out of town. All of our guests loved the Cassata cake, as a change from typical wedding cake, and of course the cannoli were a big hit! I'd been a resident of Bedford/ Maple Heights since 2004. I ALWAYS patronized Barona's for my cake and dessert needs. I've never experienced a problem, and each time I called, the person I was talking to was always accommodating. Fast forward to 2020. I understand that the surrounding neighborhood has taken a change for the worse. However, I wasn't expecting the service here to reflect this as well. I attempted to order a pineapple cassata early on Saturday morning in hopes of being able to pick it up by the end of business on the same day. I was told that I would have had to pre-order the cake in order to pick it up today. Though I offered to pre-pay, and even pay an additional fee to expedite the order, I was still told that the business couldn't accommodate my request because it wasn't "large enough". I was then told that my only options were to purchase a cake already made or order a cake to pick up the next day. What I struggle to understand is the difference between me placing my order at the end of business on Saturday to pick up the next morning, and me ordering early Saturday to pick up at the end of the business the same day. Is there a crew that works during non-business hours? If so, a brief explanation would have sufficed. Thank you Barona's for showing me where I can take my needs and shove them. read more

If I hadn't had a cake from them a long time ago, this rating would be a one. I thought for sure we would get a cake from here since I had a Cassata cake for my graduation that was really good. When my fiance, family and I went in to talk about options for our wedding cake, I was absolutely appalled by the condition of the shop. It was filthy. Not only did it look like the decor hasn't been updated since 1970, but it also looked like no one had vacuumed, dusted or cleaned anything either. When I showed them a picture of the style of cake we were looking for, I was told "we cant do that", "we dont have that" and "it looks tedious". Is that any way to get business? The cake samples we tasted (white, choc, red velvet) were dry, bland and really just not good. They quoted $800 for a guest count of 200. Quotes from other companies were around $450-500 and had a much better presentation and were willing to work with us on what we wanted. Lastly, once I compromised on letting them put a ribbon around my cake, as opposed to the "tedious" pearl beading I originally wanted, she said they would charge us $5 to put the ribbon on!! WTF! Overall very disappointed, especially given the reputation and history of this company. The dirtiness of the store was the worst part of it all - I will never get bakery from here knowing it is made in a facility with such unkempt conditions - what does it look like "in the back"?!? My family has been a customer for decades but will never order again! Placed an order for a cake with a pick up at 3:45 today, after finding out that they close at 4:00. My husband left work early and rushed to the bakery. At 3:56 he was 5 minutes away and I called the bakery to let them know that he would be there at 4:00-4:01, no one answered and their closed message was already playing. When he pulled up the employee was walking away from the bakery. He asked about the cake order and was told, sorry but they were closed, she could not help him and she walked away. My husband and 4 cars pulled away. My cake was sitting in the bakery with our greeting on it and she could not turn around and take three minutes to give it to us? Horrible, horrible customer service!! For a small bakery to do this is crazy. Then again, for a bakery to close at 4:00 on monday must not want too much business anyway! I will be taking my business elsewhere and will let others know as well! Bakery called me this morning to see if I still wanted the cake I ordered for a pick-up yesterday. Hmmm, maybe they should have called at 3:50 yesterday to see if I was still coming to get it, but no, they did not care. When I told her about the timing her response...once we close the door we do not have a key to go back in (I assume I was talking to the owner - no key?). When I asked about calling at 3:56 to let them know and no one answered... her response - they are there 7 days a week and when it is closing time, they are ready to leave - it was not closing time yet. Great, I will find another bakery who cares about their customers and will tell everyone I know about this as well. read more

Soooo I went in just as pleasant to place my order and was helped by one of the rudest and unconcerned individuals I had ever come across. Very irritated by my questions for my order that I was paying for in full and very unconcerned. I chalked it up to her being young and didn't want any added extras in my order, if ya know what I mean. I then went to pick up my order that following week and was once again treated as if I was being paid to get a cake AND cupcakes from this establishment, but who cared, I was on my way to my party and ready to celebrate. Welllll I get to my party destination, only 20 minutes away and I find that my chocolate cassata cake was in two sections. The entire top portion of the cake had slid all the way off of the bottom layer damn near after sitting on a completely flat surface. So since it was on a flat surface and I wasn't in the Indy 500, I can only assume that my cake wasn't kept cold enough before my arrival. From poor customer service to the terrible display of the dismantled cake, needless to say I wouldn't spend not another penny in Baraona's. I attempted to order a birthday cake from here today for a member of my family. I simply asked the clerk if it was possible to pay for the cake once I picked it up. She was rude to the point of "ignorant". I asked if I could speak to the manager and at that point I heard her say " oh, she doesn't want to pay for the cake". The manager gets on the phone and he was even more nasty. I told him about my last experience at this bakery. The cake was stale. It was as if they just frosted over an old cake. He was very RACIST .
