Stopped by here while exploring the French market with some friends. I was feeling impulsive so I bought a couple of pies from here so we could all share with some drinks. What we tried: Peppered steak and mushroom (3/5) -- extremely peppery sauce with hefty chunks of steak, didn't get much mushroom or maybe I didn't notice it because I was focusing so much on the pepper Pulled pork mango (4/5) -- sweet, savory, tangy, slightly spicy, saucy. all around, a satisfying bite for everyone.. the beans were also a nice surprise The crust for these pies is pretty buttery and thick, so it just depends how you like your pastry. Great lunch special in the French Market. For $11 you get a pie, bag of chips and a drink. The chicken curry pie was flavorful with a flaky crust. Not much heat at all, but delicious and very filling. Service was fast and they seem to sell our fast during lunch hours. read more

Aussie pies!  Don't see these around too often, so I had to have one when we stumbled into this place.  This foodstand is actually brand new at only 2 weeks old at the Chicago French Market.  Their flagship 2 year old Chicago location is in Lakeview.  The last time I had an Aussie pie it was direct from a foodstand in Freemantle, Western Australia way back in 2010, and it was niiice.  Today, we tried their classic mince pie ($6.95), and I did reheat it after taking it on a long commute home to eat.  The crust and flavor was a bit on the flattish side (as if it was previously frozen, but I'm not saying it was) and I can't say it was a knockout for me.  The friendly staffer said many folks like ketchup with it, and I said, hmmm, ok give me some packets then, but there's no way I was really going to have ketchup with it, but it tells you some folks would like a flavor boost with these pies anyway.  Honestly, I have to compare the pies here to Pleasant House Pub's British pies, which are more flavorful and with a tasty buttery crust, but also significantly more expensive at $11.50.  So, I'll go with an ok 3 stars as the pies here are a nice novelty treat in any event and an ok value as far as meat pies go. read more

Love this place. Total hole in the wall but so good. Their tomato soup is amazing, Mac & cheese - delicious. The pies are bangin! We live close by and it's definitely a staple. read more

My friends and I stumbled upon this place while visiting the French Market, and we had the most amazing lunch ever!!! My friends had the curry chicken and pepper steak and mushrooms, while I went with the classic pie. The pies were absolutely delicious and full of meat, and the crust was very flaky. The ladies at the counter were very friendly and helpful, and told us that they have a rotating pie menu with different flavors. We'll definitely be back to try more flavors! read more

I tried the "Chicken and Mushroom" pie since the nice cashier said it was delicious. I was severely disappointed. The dough/ crust is thick and not crisp. The filling was beyond dry even though it was supposed to be a mushroom CREAM sauce. 100% the opposite of creamy. The chicken was as bland as it can be. There was not a mushroom in sight. You can get a better pie from Marie Callender's Chicken Pot Pie at Costco in bulk. read more
