I attended St.Timothys from 6-8th grade (middle school) and these years are always awkward, but attending school here is definitely my worst childhood experience. I was ruthlessly bullied by my whole class and the boys in that class outnumbered the girls by about 13 boys and only 5 girls. I was actually a good child for most of it. I was quiet, intelligent, creative, and loved to read. I was also undiagnosed Autism and ADHD and was experiencing parental abuse at home. I would get balls thrown at my face til my nose bled, got multiple texts telling me I'd be better off unalived, made fun off, and the boys would make loud noises so I couldn't even utter a single verbal defense, laughed at when I cried, and was repeatedly told by my teacher that I was the second smartest student but could never be as smart as "D" (a very average allistic kid who was above average at math). I also had a mathematical learning disability too. Even meetings with parents, principal, and teachers ended din blame on how "abnormal" I was and how that makes me the issue. I wasn't the same brilliant, trusting girl after 8th grade. It actually really had a strong impact and altered my high school and adult trajectory for many years. It compounded my already existing trauma and resulted in CPTSD that took a long time to process. I also grappled with addiction for a long time, a boy in this class introduced me to drugs. I am fortunate now that I have a long term recovery and I am currently getting my Bachelors in Psychology. Some of the kids in my class did apologize to me in adulthood. However, the one that threw a ball at me giving me a nosebleed said "he doesn't remember so that must mean nothing happened". Many refused to apologize at all. And I will be th only student in my class that continued on the path of a very successful career (most of them work at corporate offices now) Anyways, if your child is a high masking neurodivergent female please don't bring her here. Especially if she ends up with wealthy bullies, which is plentiful in private schools. Because in my experience they always took the side that could buy them. This school utterly failed me in ways I didn't know were even possible. Thanks for all the trouble STS. Sidenote: i vividly remember that I was crying again because a bully was becoming very verbally abusive towards me. The bully asked" god Mrs. Novak what's wrong with her" my teacher replied "idk but she's obviously autistic" and not once did she ever call my mom about her suspicion. Teachers are how parents often realize their child is neurodivergent. But the beauty of a truly gifted neurodivergent mind is utterly lost on these people. Also she was very elderly but Mrs. Richmond was the attending principal back then.

I was delighted to hear a program packed with myriad Hanukkah songs, from "Hanukkah o Hanukkah" to "Kindled by the Flame" (which references Hanukkah and Menorahs in every verse, complete with wiggling candle fingers). And of course the classic "Happy Hanukkah". All of these songs were absolutely beautiful, especially because each song was presented INTACT, without censorship. But what was ugly was the School's systematic censorship of "Christmas". Not a single time did the word Christmas get sung, and it was not by accident. The concert was so thoroughly de-Jesused that even the great "Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas" was bastardized to "Have yourself a Merry *Winter Season*"! I am the father of a family of church-going followers of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and Christmas marks His birth into this world. That said, I don't expect our public school to be teaching my kids Christmas hymns. But if Lanai staff ARE going to teach my son religious songs, then they cannot discriminate against Christians by deliberately avoiding and excising any mention of Christmas like it's Kryptonite. I cannot imagine the uproar if the entire music program had been filled with expressly Christmas songs and the closest thing to mentioning Hanukkah was "Happy Other Winter Thing". If Lanai is low-key trying to be a public Hebrew school, that's not what we signed up for. As a public school Lanai must be accountable to all its students, and to Federal Laws prohibiting religious discrimination.

And if if were to define favorable impact within the bounds of my goals, I would say that it is an enjoyable and memorable evening because it leaves me with something I had not appreciated before. And viewing a performance by Colbourn students at St. Paul 's amidst SAP's new and modern Catholic decore was just that: memorable in a way that will stick to my impactful files. Plus at a cost of zero cents this place offered a heaven-level bargain. The Colbourn Youth have a series of dates in which they will play at this venue. I encourage a google search to identify the exact dates to determine how they will work with one's schedule. Something that worked specifically for me was not catching the show but rather the dress reharsal. This was the twist in the musical evening that helped me experience the fresh notes raw before they were beautifully packaged for a ready audience. I got to see the gardener cut the flowers, then a flower arranger make them into a bouqet, and the delivery person ready the vase and the flowers in their truck carefully so it did not drop with a splash and fallen petals. I did not get to see the guy in the dog house give the flowers to his lady wife. But in a way I saw enough. I did not to see the final polished scene because sometimes the beauty is in the work that comes before the official spotlight. I did not want to take pictures of the Youth at work becuase I wanted to protect their implict right to privacy. But, sitting up close to them and hearing their chamber music was a moment of pure discovery because I did not know that instruments could be handled in the way that I saw. For instance, at times, the violin was being plucked by finger. The Youth did not use the stick that accompanies the violin. He used his fingers to pinch the strings to make melody. Additioanlly, at one time there was a quartet. And I am not sure how, well practice of course, but they knew how to simultaneously begin a song with a shared intensity in their faces and their armed movements. I was sitting up close, and saw synchronized musicans begin classical music with synchronized movement that mirrored dance and swim. That image is the one that felt like discovery. Discovery of how music can also be heard with one's eyes. And the music was refreshing because I could feel it with my skin and feelings. It was weird in a pleasant way, but when I was hearing the music and imagining what scene would match the music. Now- this might sound like a stretch- I understand why there are categories for scores in the Oscars. Music alone can establish a scene. A scene might need music to make it well-rounded and layer, but, music might need a scene to make it fully true and appropriate for a moment. I attended a brief music appreciation seminar. The church itself is chic. I learned that in a certain point of time the church had more money than Euorepean royalty. I am not sure if that is true but being in this church did make me feel that it had an expert designer come and make the holy of this place elegant, like this church did have more money to decorate with than some upper middle class families. Brenda could not get her leather couch but this church could get a Virgin Mary in subdued gold tones. I am not sure the exact color name but it is more than a light golden brown, it is in the tan family and I have scene it before, the color of certain parchments, maybe papyrus. I also got to see the maestro help the youth perform better. I could not hear what he said, but I could see the intensity that he brought to his work. At one point, there was a woman in the top with a laptop. Not sure what the second floor area with the dj booth is called in a church. The woman said something up there about some lights not workng and the maestro responded as I expected with exhaustion that betrayed his inner voice--- I want to control everything because I want this to be perfect, if it is not perfect, then why have a show? For me, the show was perfect, Maestro, you can relax your arm from checking your watch to ensure that everything is running on perfect time.

He's dismissive with any suggestion from the congregation and doesn't even give the time to talk with us. He's not open to any kind of feedback from St Paul the Apostle School. I get the feeling that he's angry about something or somebody like maybe he's unhappy with the Paulists? He should stop directing his frustrations at us. He's even discouraged people from contributing time and money to the parish. The priests in NYC probably don't know what's going on over here and if they did, do they have anyone who can replace him? Either way, his leadership undermines the work that we do.

I attended GSBH myself, and as an adult I appreciate even more how crucial this school is to a young person's development. I remain deeply thankful for it. Now, after we switched schools, my daughters attend GSBH too, and in just one month I've seen them grow in such a positive way.
